Should Saints Go For Cabaye Or Schneiderlin In January ? Tuesday, 8th Nov 2016 12:25 Saints are being linked with a move for Yohan Cabaye in January, but are they going for the right man ?
The media are suggesting that Crystal Palace are willing to sell Yohan Cabaye in January with Saints being named as being interested in buying the French International.
But the reason that the Eagles are willing to sell is that they are looking to raise funds to bid for Ex Saints midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.
So if Saints where to go for Cabaye then they could kick star a chain of events that could see Schneiderlin end up in South London.
But it is fair to say that many Saints fans would prefer to see the club bid for Schneiderlin rather than Cabaye, that is probably based on the thought that it is better the devil you know rather than the one that says you should never go back.
The other question is whether Schneiderlin would want to return to St Mary's, although he did leave in good standing, perhaps he himself would see it as a failure if he returned to his former club.
Although Palace would be interested due to Alan Pardew managing Schneiderlin during his time as Saints manager, that could also be said of Ronald Koeman and Everton will also be a club linked as the transfer rumour mill starts to hot up in the coming weeks.
That in itself could see Koeman turn to Jordy Clasie if he fails to land Schneiderlin and if Saints were to be successful in signing either Schneiderlin or Cabaye then they would probably look to offload a central midfielder to not only help fund the purchase but due to the fact they would be top heavy in this department. But who would Saints fans prefer to go for in the January window ? or would they prefer to keep what we have ?

I do rate Clasie, I don't think he;s set the world alight but he is fairly consistent... If the chance arose however, I would swap him for Morgan in a heart beat.

There is no way that Saints will get Morgan back. He'll not want to be humiliated into a return to the south coast. He also won't go to Crystal Palace. He left to play Champions League football. I can see him going to Everton with Konman convincing him that Europe is a realistic possibility (although we all know that it isn't). I'm not sure about Cabaye either. I never think you can have too much creativity, but if we're going to spend anything I'd rather spend big on a striker and defensive cover for VVD and Fonte.

Stuff them 2, we need a top quality striker. Redmond as striker is NOT going to work and we need him on the wing. Boufal really does look the real deal and when he's up and running fully,I think we'll be in for a treat, our strikers are not consistent enough apart from Austin. Long not prolific enough and neither is Redmond. Greedy saints done one almighty f@@kup selling mane.he's banging them in for fun and could well be player of the season if he carries on.

Of the 2, spiderman. But agree need another striker before centre mf. But need goal scoring mf before cmf. We will not get even 10 goals combined from Davis, W-P, Classie, Romeu., Hojbjerg. Nor from nippers in the squad Reed, Hesketh, Isgrove. I am hoping that Jay Rod can stay fit, and play wide. he may not be a better scorer than Austin, but got more speed for the wide position. I like Redmond, but can we wait until he learns new position., if he ever can. Walcott has struggled for years to adjust from winger to his own prefered striker role for eg.

Nah Clasie looked hopeful he has a tiger spirit and great vision, however yet to come up to pace in the premiership IMO, Cabaye if he can't make Palace team how are we going to use him ?? Schnids as gone Let it go.... Redmond to the wing and another no 9 to come in, I would call Sam Gallagher back but maybe still needs a full season of games, he is finding the net. The combo of Mane and Pelle is missing but we have to find another way Boufal will impress but needs time we need a right back strong enough to cope with the top ten teams at the moment we have 80% in that position.

SaintBen you are right in saying Clasie has been consistent! Consistently SXXT! I'm not so sure we need another midfielder, Hojbjerg or JWP would drop in there & do a better job. Bring back Gallagher with maybe JRod going the other way would be what I would do in January.

This decision completely depends on money. I think bringing either Schneiderlin or Cabaye in would be a big contract. I don’t think there’s much in either of these rumours, it doesn’t make business sense to shuffle defensive midfielders with 2 or 3 other teams.

bstoke - not sure it would be a 'humiliation' for Morgan to return to a club that came one place and 3 pts below his current one but I think pay would be the issue. Koeman will be flashing the cash at Everton and there's always Liverpool (or do they only take DIRECTLY from us?). If he had a choice between us and Palace I don't see why he would choose them. Any new midfielder would have to be someone who can help with speedy transition into attack as that is where we are very sluggish at the moment.

Don't rule out a sneaky bid for Morgan from Spurs, He was always a firm favourite of Poch, and a reunion with Big Victor would be one to watch.

WE NEED A STRIKER!!!! This is just a distraction.

Fully agree with BaselSaint. We're dominating games, until the last couple of games we weren't letting many goals in, we're having plenty of goal attempts, the only thing missing is goals. Any cash we've got to spend has to go on sorting that particular problem out. Anyway, I'm sure Cabaye and Schneiderlin's wages are well above what we would normally spend.

Well Nick, the first proposition is nothing more than a press rumour no doubt promoted by a greedy agent, the second is pure fantasy - enough for any troll.

Can't see us going for any of those two really needed a striker from start of season we could all see that but now we know why we didn't with Kat wanting to sell. Creaming off the transfer fee and spending some of it to make us still viable to sell (good business woman ) so can't see us spending anything until sold.

Unless someone is on the way out, not too sure why we would want another midfielder. Surely a Striker or CB if we are going to buy anyone, although Yoshi seems to be doing okay now he is getting a run of games. Spiderman won't come back because Saints won't match anywhere near his MU wages. Simple as that.

I bet MS wished he'd stayed but it would be like admitting failure. I'd love it because he was close to world class with us. Can't understand him being squeezed out up there. Reminds me a bit of Shane Long's position down here where we need him but he doesn't suit the system. After Hull, I think we should adapt the painfully slow system to suit Long? Like last Christmas do you reckon? Aside from that, a striker should be the priority.

Morgan all day long-I don't even need to think about it! But it won't happen.

Totally agree future 'progressive' CB is main focus, current form suggests we should also be looking closer at the options for a frontman but the key to midfield is that we are so reliant on the brilliant Oriol Romeu. If he were to pick up an injury I'm not convinced the back up quality is there to match him. Spiderman could do this, and Saints know it, yes wages would be high, but perhaps a deal can be considered; his value has dropped and could offset some of the difference, he will be keen to play regularly were ever he goes so will pick his move carefully and that could be the difficulty - as Oriol is currently first choice. Could they play together? Can Saints convince him? They would have a real coup if they did. Building a stronger squad is how Saints will 'progress' and no one can argue Spiderman would not help to achieve that, perhaps even at the expense of losing Clasie.
