Saints Are Playing To Top The Premier Against QPR Sunday, 21st Sep 2014 18:12 After this weekends results Saints find themselves in the position that on Saturday evening they could find themselves leading the Premier League. It has been a good start for Saints this season, if we take the first six games as being the opening of a season it won't be their best start, that will remain the four wins and two draws they manged at the start of 1983/84 season, but if we beat QPR it will see us equal our second best ever start that being in 1980/81 when the arrival of at the time best footballer in Europe Kevin Keegan spurred us to four wins a draw and a solitary defeat. But if we can beat QPR and beat them well then we could find ourselves atop of the Premier league come 5pm on Saturday, we will start the day in second, three points behind Chelsea after their draw at Man City and on level points with their opponents next Saturday at Stamford Bridge Aston Villa. Chelsea currently have a goal difference of 9 compared to our 6 and Villa have 0, but Chelsea have scored way more goals than us , so firstly we need to beat QPR by at least 3 goals and then hope for a Villa win. If that happens then the unthinkable will happen and Saints will stare down atthe rest of the division. Of course the odds of it happening are not great but Villa have started the season well and don't concede many goals, they don't score many either though having scored and conceded only 4 apiece. But they are as equipped to beat Chelsea at the current time as any other team and they showed at Anfield they are well able to complete a smash and grab raid on one of the big clubs. Of course there is a long way to go in this season and we don't want to get carried away, but it is pleasing to be in this position and certainly far better than being down in the bottom third of the table. So there is a lot to play for next Saturday when pantomime villain of Hampshire Harry Redknapp roles back into town, we could be top, if we win we will be second and even a draw would probably keep us in the top four. So lets fill St Mary's next week, after all the troubles of the summer wouldn't it be great if St Mary's rocked to "We are top of the league" and if you are a Saints fan you would want to say in the future "I was there" Photo: Action Images Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
