Any sign of release? |

exactly this ... at best we have a mid table squad (and that is assuming at least one of the new singnings works out) ...not getting hammered by better teams and picking up points at home will be the key. a series of bad runs punctuated by a few better sequences is what this kind of position will give, and always looking over our shoulder. that of course sets the tone for significant match by match tantrums on here. |
| Forum Reply | Swansea offering average League One contracts, and lower at 22:29 30 Aug 2024
the premier league such a distant memory, even those hangover players a far cry than the level we are operating at. 4th or 5th rebuild now, each with a lower budget; ultimately budgeting for a level (League 1) but hoping we can find the coach who will knit something unique together. Feels more and more desperate, almost every coach we have run out of town goes onto bigger and better and yet we expect more from the next guy. Tough times. |

off we go again, another slow start to the season, manager out after 10 games, and another rebuild .... Apart from the week after the Preston game when I noted on some forums it was felt we had the best transfer window in our lifetime and reasons to be cheerful ... |

we start again next season, what number of new starts is this, I've lost count ... overall trajectory has been downward in recent years, 7 points above relegation in the end. can we arrest the overall decline, gonna need to. |
| Forum Reply | Here we go at 15:11 4 Feb 2024
obviously we could get sucked into a battle if the points don't come and that is generally what we all focus on and many fans get all worked up about - rubbish players, rubbish managers, rubbish board, the usual cyclical irritation fest. the graph that is more telling would be a season by season decline (more or less) over a 6-8 year period. I keep hoping our less than ambitious (but perhaps pragmatic) business model will lead us to find our level eventually. Not convinced we have quite done so yet and the question is will this ultimately be League One, this season or a future season. And we all convinced ourselves in the Premier League or even when relegated that we had secured long term higher level football for the city, never to return to the more mundane levels... |

just a couple of points and I will caveat it with the view I have always had that selling to these was a big mistake at the time, and footballing wise we have been on gentle spiral of decline for 5 or 6 years. point 1 is a gentle reminder that everyone was happy with their spend over the Summer, its only subsequent performances that have now determined it was a 'bad spend' point 2 is genuinely what do we expect to come that is better. No -one is going to inject immediate cash or quality, if anything it is likely we would have owners who would spend less, not more. on the basis of the latter point it could be outweighed I guess if they put a good long term prospect in place who built things slowly. but we sort of had one of those in Martin and everyone got bored with him. fact is if we are not winning, and getting the odd hiding, we assume there is a fairy godmother out there that will or would have done everything so much better.... |

the trajectory of the last 6 years summed up in one sentence. and each new manager having a bit less quality to work with than the last. perhaps everyone can agree in advance this time the period they are willing to give the new one before passing judgement. am pretty sure any sequence of 3/4 defeats will lead to the usual outcome.... but that may be a regular feature for lower mid table teams |

agreed. the psychology of the red brought out the best of us as we changed our game plan into something simple and gritty. Let them have the ball in certain positions, defend for our lives in others. Great. Prior to that when we both were trying to seize control of a football match, they were cutting through us at will. |
| Forum Reply | How do you rate Michael Duff so far ? at 11:55 29 Oct 2023
I guess in that regard the squad might come into it as it sets your expectations bar for Duff. I'm not excited by the football I've seen but there have been patches/moments that show it could evolve into something both that wins and entertains, the magic combo that most are looking for. Most evaluation is based on the last handful of results though, so ultimately for all the subjective stuff as a fan, that is what will ultimately determine our ratings. 5 points off the play offs, 6 off relegation. I'd say he must be above average on that showing and my feeling the squad is not an obvious promotion one anymore. |

turgid, a bit organised is the best we can now hope for, by far the worst we have looked in over a decade, albeit it has been a steady decline. |

grimes gone and new owners and we will be world beaters mun! oh if life was that simple. the owners whilst not as ambitious as some would like are as good as we are going to get now .. not the ideal people to sell to back in the day but thats water under the bridge now. |
