| News Comment | Southampton V Chelsea The Verdict at 20:45:40
There is something seriously wrong with SR. They appoint mid Championship managers and invest in mid Championship players. They also presumably expect to stay in the Premiership. Or do they? Is it really their intention to be a yo yo club? Every, and I mean every, premiership club would have sacked Martin by know but there is an arrogance about SR…….a ‘we know better’ arrogance. Have they thought of the fans who have to watch the Sunday league mistakes gifting the opposition goals. I can’t remember anything like it in the history of the Premiership. |

| News Comment | Southampton At Arsenal The Verdict at 10:56:08
We are too slow to clear the ball and lack speed in our own half. Why Martin wants to play the game in our half is beyond me. In 90 minutes, there are bound to be mistakes made which will lead to premiership players taking full advantage. Even Huddersfield worked us out last year. Premiership sides move at pace , look at Brighton and Brentford. Where were they 10 years ago and look at them now. Was it one game recently when we had a free kick on the half way line @nd it eventually went back to Ramsdale. What the heck! |
| News Comment | Southampton At Brentford The Damning Verdict at 10:26:05
Look at Pickford on Saturday. Organised the defence successfully until the final few minutes. He mostly hit the ball long and Bournemouth were under pressure. We mess about outside our penalty are and invite trouble which leads to goals. Let's put the ball in the oppositions half and let them make mistakes. Tippy happy stuff on our half has no future. |
| News Comment | Transfer To Southampton To Be Announced On Tuesday at 17:33:05
Agree with everything here. Keep Alcarez, McCarthy plays midfield and Fernandez goes in goal. At least he will be able to pass a ball which appears to be the main requisite of our keepers. Neither McCarthy or Bazuno are shot stoppers abd don't wi us points. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Newcastle United The Verdict at 09:17:12
Of course it’s McCarthy’s fault……it was a shocking episode and will unsettle the defence from now onwards. He is genuinely slow to react both to shots and passes. He gives the wrong vibes…..nervous and unsure. Look at Pickford…..what a character in a pretty average side and he wins them points. I admit McCarthy played ok in the play offs but this is a different league. We need a goalie with character and belief. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Lazio The Verdict at 11:00:59
Keep Charlie. He adds unpredictability and can win games. Still no goalkeeper yet which is a disaster in the making. I thought McCarthy played alright in the play offs because we adapted our system to accommodate him. Martin must not be predictable and should mix it up as we did against WBA and Leeds. Goalkeepers can win you games, just look at Pickford and Everton. McCarthy is too much of a second string and teams know it. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Oxford United The Verdict at 10:37:23
Agreed…..McCarthy played well in the play offs but so did the team as a whole. Less of the tippy tappy stuff at the back which McCarthy simply cannot do as it affects his game and the whole defence. Jordan Pickford often hits it straight upfield…..he doesn’t appear too keen to pass it around the back. So you pick Bazunu because of his passing ability…..no sense in that. Martin has got to get real otherwise we will ship a load of goals. McCarthy is not a no 1 and he and the rest of the team know it. |
| News Comment | Crucial Day For Russell Martin On Saturday at 22:57:16
It is the nature of some of the goals that we have conceded which is most concerning. Newcastle beat Sheff U. by moving the ball forward at every opportunity rather than tippy tappy stuff in their own half. We spend too much of the game playing tippy tappy in the wrong areas. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Bournemouth The Pre Season Verdict at 10:17:12
McCarthy is a massive weak link and his nervousness with the ball at his feet must unsettle the defence, not to mention his weakness at the near post. It does not give grounds for optimism this season if Martin picks him. It is surprising that the club have not seen it necessary to invest in a proven goalkeeper…neither McCarthy or Bazunu are proven keepers. |
| News Comment | Phoney Squad Returns To Training But How Many Will Still Be Here Come September at 13:37:12
We have to keep Tella but it is crucial to move McCarthy on. He provides absolutely nothing in defence and cannot provide his other defenders with any confidence. Bazunu has potential at least. In the Championship, with games coming thick and fast, get a reliable keeper from the word go otherwise we will struggle. Oh, and McCarthy’s near post efforts…don’t get me started. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Leicester City The Verdict at 14:26:24
The club did get it right a few years ago…….Tadic, Lovren etc. Signings since then have been questionable. Hasenhutl should never have said he was going in 2024. This provides zero motivation for everyone, especially the players. If Mcarthy is picked againI shall go and support Wrexham just to get away from watching him playing out of the back and making a fool of himself at the near post. |
| News Comment | Southampton v Liverpool The Verdict at 10:52:38
Very deflated after last night. When I heard McCarthy was in goal I began my period of deflation. It seemed the team was happy to just not get a thrashing and for the manager and some of the players a 2-1 defeat was almost a good result. Fraser would have saved the first goal. |
| News Comment | Big Night In Premier League Relegation Battle at 14:34:43
Burnley, Everton and Leeds have all changed their manager with some improvement in form. Saints have not done so and have become rather predictable and ordinary in the last few weeks. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Norwich City The Preview at 11:36:37
Fraser Forster has give the whole team confidence and should have been in fro the beginning.McCarthy is not a shot stopper. Our results have improved with his performances. New contract for sure. |
| News Comment | Fraser Forster In Line For New Saints Contract at 14:23:07
McCarthy has no idea on his near post but this is Fraser's strength. Fraser has given the whole side confidence and the results have got better. I hope McCarthy never plays again. |
