Paul Nardi

You say that, but then Joe Walsh has looked absolutely fantastic in the cup when he's been called upon. Terrific shotstopper and a real prospect. Nardi has been fantastic, but I'd feel very secure with Walsh coming through. Blows my mind we had to sit through Begovic last year while Walsh was kicking around.

Don't come at me with your facts and statistics, Brian. I was perfectly happy with my biases.

Notwithstanding the result, you can't look at Ashby's performance last night and say it was working. Paal in at LB when he's fit is an obvious change.

If Paal is still struggling with injury and Ashby with form out of position, I'd be tempted to play Clarke-Salter at LB when he's back fit. Keeps Morrison on the pitch who has been fantastic, adds another 6ft something aerial presence for set pieces, and we know he can play out well from the back.

I'll say it, I think that's soft for a ban. A yellow, certainly, but violent conduct? He definitely sticks an arm across him to stop the run, but I don't think he's led with his elbow. Difficult to see on that video, but doesn't appear to have his fist clenched. One of those that maybe gets given on the day, but a retrospective ban seems harsh. I'd be cheesed off if Field got hit with a ban for that.

Think it's a bit harsh, vocabulary changes and evolves. There will be loads of phrases we use often that generations before us would think sounds ridiculous. Some of the kids I coach used the phrase 'bicey' (pronounced like the first half of bicycle) referring to an overhead kick, which I thought sounded ridiculous. They also love the phrase 'Brexit tackle', referring to a full blooded slide tackle that wipes out the opponent.

That being said, I despise the phrase 'cooking', which is way overused and really cringey. Plus the whole pseudo-tacticos on twitter, using phrases such as 'pausa', which is one of Clive's favourites.

Big yes. Delicious. On the side of a fry up, in a bacon and egg muffin, even diced up and cooked with leftover veg for a fried rice for lunch. White pudding just as delicious. Favourite breakfast item going.

Who is the ball winner you speak of? Surely not the same 6'4 Madsen who recently went a whole game without making a tackle and stands outside the box at set pieces?

I'm more interested in trying to hold Nourry to account at the Junior Hoops Halloween and Christmas parties. Chasing him round the Blue and White bar dressed up as an enormous bat, demanding to know the length of Clarke-Salter's contract and whether we own Saito or not.

Gab's main point was that they had a young squad full of potential that was finding it's feet in the Championship and had been a bit inconsistent, but they were primed to mature this season and coalesce into a proper outfit. Excellent call by someone who has encyclopaedic knowledge of the EFL.

Really frustrating display last night. Clearly not fit, and trying to do far too much. As we've seen before, reluctant to play the early pass. Some of our best football in recent years has come down that left flank with Eze/Chair/Wallace & Willock/Chair/Paal combinations. With Saito, Chair, Paal, JCS we've got the players to replicate that again, but our passing was so slow and ponderous, taking too long on the ball before playing it. Painful at times.

Greg Spires, who's been doing the analytics pieces for the new signings, did an excellent series of articles over the summer looking at potential targets. Madsen featured heavily when looking at CM options - really interesting read.

Anyone watch much of Blackpool last season? Seen ex-Celtic wonderkid Karamako Dembele being talked about as a target for Derby/Sheff Wednesday. Left-footed winger in the same mould as JRS and Bowler, 8G amd 13A for Blackpool last season and still only 21. Thought he could have been another option.
