Small point of order concerning this: ""The simple answer is: illegally. Chairman Bill Tomlins was overseeing a regime that made illegal payments to players and agents through third parties, thereby keeping them from the football authorities and tax man"" The actual payments were legit payments to agents etc, the problem was that they came from the wrong account/cheque book ie instead of coming from the clubs account it came from the account of the clubs holding company. I would suggest quite a small technicality compared to what other bigger clubs have got away with but there again we all know the FA dont have the bottle to crack down on the bigger clubs. Otherwise not a bad article. |
