Solihull Match Thread

Its quite hard when the 20 or 30 post on here (Myself included) sound like grumpy old fools when the reality is we can see what hundreds of others can also see but don't post they just don't attend games in the future.

With a win last Saturday we WOULD have been top of the league.. its a massive chance passed over as we set up negative and defensively especially first half.

A similar game was the recent Woking game at home when the Ogdens were present and we set off in a far more positive manner and carried it on for 90 minutes and ran out comfortable 3-0 winners. Last Saturday was like chalk and cheese! The only real main difference was Sassi came in for Ferguson who was possibly one of the players of the match v Woking... He has not been seen since as we have moved on to Sassi being the man asked to pull all the strings.

300 extra on the gate who must be wondering what the fuss is all about. Dale can bounce back of course and could easily beat both Eastleigh and Hartlepool in the next 2 games.

The stated plan (on record) is to get 5000 home fans.. Exciting winning football will at least put the foundation down. TS made a great point regarding getting out of the league by simply outscoring your opposition most weeks.

We have the best set of players in recent memory and its early days I know only 9 games played. I really hope last Saturday was a minor bump on a long 46 game road I guess we will know more at 5pm on Saturday 28th September.

Looking really good to make the first round proper for the very first time in the clubs history.

They have come a long way since forming 5 years ago.

Its still very early and this time next week we can evaluate after the 10 game benchmark people talk about.

If we manage to win away at Eastleigh and we will have 20 points from the opening 10 games (Excellent).

First half yesterday was pretty dire.. too negative and slow on the ball with tippy tappy between Sassi and Gordon then Sassi then Gordon...

This season Dale have had so much success down that right hand side and yesterday TAR in loads of space 30 yards further advanced and not getting any of the ball. If Sassi is going to be the new quarter back we need runners into channels and forward balls for them to run onto.. (something Moors did plenty of).

We gifted Solihull both goals less said about the first the better how that pass from the keeper to Gilmour is sensible play I will never know, surrounded by two Moors forwards Wilkinson just takes it off him easily and slots it home he will not be gifted an easier chance all season. Never seeing this tactic again would make me a happier supporter.

Burger missed that free header second half he has to hit the target with that chance.

i thought Henry did well and looked to up the tempo to create some urgency and positivity. I agree if fit I think he has to start games especially at Home.

Gutted as a chance to go top and we just did not perform to what we have seen in the previous 4 games. Playing away now for two games might be helpful - Hoping when we next play at Spotland we can put this one out of sight and mind.

Update from Cameron Ogden.

It definitely makes some difference..

Families away on holiday in August OR having to entertain kids with a limited disposable income.

Chester Zoo family of four is Over £120. Alton Towers - Gulliver's world plus lots of additional days out that might impact.

Anyway 2600 yesterday so 300 + on Tuesday.

Pedestrian and Negative first half - missed a huge opportunity yesterday of being top of the National league today.

On a Saturday with Kids back at school and the weather pretty good and a chance of going top of the league?.

If we are closer to 2500 than 3000 It would be a little disappointing.

it is made up of all of its supporters and stakeholders – and we are calling for your assistance in this endeavour. A football club’s supporters are its best advocates and by encouraging friends, family and colleagues to make a trip to the Crown Oil Arena you will be doing your Club the best service you can. It won’t happen overnight and it is ambitious, but other clubs have proven it can be done and we need to set our sights high.

Excellent update from our Co Chair.

I see the 5000 home fans vision as hugely positive and we can certainly help. In my eyes its a 4 prong approach that starts with number 1. below.

1. Winning games playing attacking football.
2. The Club getting better at creating a buzz that lapsed and new potential fans get excited about
3. The hardcore regulars trying to all bring a +1. Encouraging those we know to come and try a game or two. EDIT _ This point is made by Cam. (Post below James & 442 Post).
4. Average spend at the stadium. Pie / Pint / Draw ticket / New Dale top / Season Card.

I would also encourage all fans to join the trust.

On the Average spend issue i agree setting a value is impossible as all fans disposable income is different.

Big Jim called for some noise today from the first minute.. We can go top of the league by 5pm with a decent win so lets try and give that to the players.

Really interested to see the attendance at Spotland today.

2300 home fans on Tuesday night.

The team in great form and another Saturday Home game Saturday 14th v Solihull Moors.

The kids are all back in school and summer holidays are over.

It will be interesting to see if we can get close to 3000 in the ground - Winning games gives us the best chance of this. Lets hope we can attract back some lapsed fans who have missed out on some great football we have seen already this season.

TONIGHTS GAME V MAIDENHEAD UTD
at 06:50 12 Sep 2024

The 3rd game in 8 we have scored 3 goals.. Nice.

Mitchell is twice the player when on the shoulder of a centre half NOT back to goal attempting to hold the ball up.. he needs to be the one being fed.. not doing the feeding.

East was incredible again and his purple patch is a huge reason we have gone on this mini run.

Loving TAR and Gordon on the right... Allarakhia totally getting his defensive responsibility and working his nuts off in doing so.. The applause last night was by those who recognised just how much of a shift he put in for the team.

The whole team look together its a pleasure to go and support lads who are totally bought in to what they are being asked to do.

Finally massive credit to Maidenhead who at 3-0 down scored a really good goal and looked to put us under considerable pressure pressing for a second. On that second half performance they should move up the table and pull away from the bottom third.

I guess we need to all look forward to Saturday now. 2300 on a cold (Ish) Tuesday with England on TV is not bad... It would be nice to be closer to 3000 in the ground on Saturday.

I tend to agree James.

Lets all move on together.. stronger. Its a new dawn and so far its looking so much better.

A win tonight v Maidenhead would tee up a perfect opportunity Saturday for lapsed fans.

Chaos reigned for sure and more of the same next Saturday.

Hopefully the club has fully briefed Solihull Moors so they can make the necessary plans for travel.

Excellent from Dale again yesterday.

Gordon and TAR combining with Burger down that right hand channel first half exceptional.

Pleased for Mitchell could easily have had another brace yesterday.

Very early days only 7 games in but looking forward to Tuesday and Saturday now with optimism.

Our midfield is a joy, so lucky to have Ryan East who had another terrific game yesterday.

Gordon certainly stepped up last few games.

He is building a brilliant understanding with TAR down the right hand side. Long may this continue.

I do think Macclesfield is probably his level.

Gateshead obviously not overly impressed.

Possibly,

Pre-match hospitality needs to be an experience... not just ok..

Sad last Saturday was flat lets hope the feedback is accepted in the way its intended to improve further.

They do need to get the football on though we are a sporting club.

Hope not...

A little selfish but would like Allarakhia in the team and raring to go on Saturday!
