| Your Report | Southampton v Manchester United Your Report added at 17:20:50 Not as bad as the scoreline suggests but still not great. at least RM should know what the best formation is and with JS banned will give THB and Janny B a chance to play together in a 4. JS at fault for first and Archer for second. Looking forward main problem is complete lack of cutting edge with lots of players struggling with the system. Downes was not great today and seemed to be in same space as Big Les. Fernandez was too far forward and cramping out Dibling who you need to have taking on people. Archer poor and not very confident. Diaz is a waste of time that wide out on the flanks. Was also a bit disappointed with Cornet when he came on. Please not another wide man with no end product. No idea why Diaz didnt take the penalty, he had hold of the ball for long enough. Now he has the formation he quickly has to work out the best combination. |
| Your Report | Southampton v Preston North End Your Report added at 08:04:55 Super first half. That is our best formation and style I e a bit quicker out from the back. So let’s stick to it. Front three KWP and Downes all excellent. Adams is playing best I have seen him. So many runs in behind. COYR |
| Your Report | Southampton v Watford Your Report added at 18:55:04 I know a win is a win at this stage of the season but god do we make it difficult for ourselves. Great first half an hour then go all passive and let them back into it. Solid first set of subs, Aribo and Brooks were both poor, but unfortunately Stuey wasn't at the races. Manning for Bree fine but not required. Then what was RM thinking taking off Adams for Mara, he was playing really well and not tired. Smallbone should have been off with Aribo, he was really leggy even before he got a knock. This meant Downes had to run twice as far = equalizer. Why we didn't have Charles on bench to bring on for Smallbone is ludicrous. Why do we need Fraser, Edozie and Sulemenia, they are never all going to come on? THB, Downes, KWP, Adams, AA all superb. COYR |
| Your Report | Southampton v Millwall Your Report added at 18:46:01 Really poor. Got bullied out of it. The lack of pace in our build up play was shocking and very poor movement off the ball. We ended up with Jack Stephens as our playmaker, less than ideal. Ref was shocking but made little difference. I have beeen a big supporter of RM but he got it badly wrong today. The defence were clueless as to what system they were playing and who was playing where. At home just play Manning or Bree and keep it settled. Once he realised they were playing nobody upfront, particularly when Obafemi went off at HT, he needed to get one of the CBs off and an additional wide player on. We are playoffs bound. |
| Your Report | Southampton v Sheffield Wednesday Your Report added at 15:00:36 Not much to add to all of the above in what was a brilliant overall performance. For me the difference is Fraser who RM deserves great credit for getting in the mood. Movement, first touch and general dynamism just gets us forward more often and quicker. With AA & KWP this gives a genuine threat on both wings. Not sure I would totally agree with the plaudits for Smallbone who was great coming forward but never drops in or back when our CBs commit forwards. Also I think RM has a dilemma with Stuey vs Charlie. Probably only room for one of them. If Adams stays then don't really see need for any incoming in January. Cannot see what Rothwell will bring. |
| Your Report | Southampton v Walsall Your Report added at 19:17:52 Overall good performance. Difference was Fraser whose movement and first touch were superb and in the second half Meghoma who pushed on really well. Although Mara took his goal well his movement is pathetic. Not only is he static but he is never ready to go and always on his heels, in a match he should have shone in. SAA did very little but I thought Bragg looked very composed. Would agree that Lumley was impressive. |
| Your Report | Southampton v Birmingham City Your Report added at 17:27:29 For the first 60 and last 15 minutes we were excellent. Obviously had lots of posession but crucially played a few over the top when they were not expecting it. Two really well worked goals. The other 15 minutes were a bit hairy, their goal was not the problem, slightly unlucky, but the abject panic that set in afterwards was ridiculous. We won because for once we had a 2 goal lead and we settled down once the subs came on. defence were all good, THB has to concentrate a bit more and Bree had a good game because he actually played left back rather than continually tucking in. Downes had his best match. Smallbone, Stuey and Alcaraz need to effect the game more and actually face forward. AA is a real dilemma, well taken goal, bad 1 on 1 miss and still has no first touch. Any way onwards and upwards and this was a crucial win since everyone else won as well. |
| Your Report | Southampton v Leicester City Your Report added at 15:34:37 Woeful. There is not enough space to go through the problems. I can only assume RM failed GCSE math’s because he clearly isn’t familiar with percentages. No man back at corners, tippy tappy by your own box when being pressed and resorting to goal rush is just asking for trouble. Small one was one of the worst performances I have ever seen |
| Your Report | Southampton v Norwich City Your Report added at 18:39:00 Hmmm. may have been entertaining but there was not a lot of quality on show. Martin has got to figure out how to get some defensive midfield cover in front of the CBs or we are going to get continually over-run. Not helped today by Manning and KWP playing poorly but Smallbone and Alcaraz didn't help much either. We had better hang on to Adams since AA just cannot hold the ball. We will also need to beef up. Norwich out muscled us all over the park, particularly Tella and Edozie. Subs were all good and well timed. |
| Your Report | Southampton v Crystal Palace Your Report added at 18:28:32 Might as well just cut and paste comments from the West Ham game. At least we have a new system - playing 4-2-4 with no forwards. RS is absolutely clueless and was shouting jibberish at the crowd as well as the players today. As usual far too easy to play against and just wait for a mistake. What is really disappointing however and really hard to take is the lack of urgency and commitment when we do fall behind. They could at least try. |

| Your Report | West Ham United v Southampton Your Report added at 22:24:18 That was truly shocking. I know it is the same as we have played all season but FFS this was a must win, fighting for your lives match. There was no passion, no urgency, no pace. We are so predictable and easy to play against. I simply do not know what the plan / tactics are to actually score. There were quite a few out there today who are obviously thinking of where they are likely to be next season e.g. KWP. Only Lavia, who can go and play for anyone he likes, looked like he cared. Selles was clueless. |

| Your Report | Southampton v Tottenham Hotspur Your Report added at 19:34:37 Well that was a strange one. Usual pedestrian stuff and stupid goal conceded and then real helter skelter for the second half. Complicated by two first half subs meaning it was all three subs or nothing in the second half so he had to leave it later. When we went 3-1 down and loads of people started leaving the Spurs fan I was with said they were stupid and boy was he right. Very interesting that JWP instigated a team huddle on conceding the 3rd. Got the team going and then the crowd. Deserved a draw. Looks like its Salisu & DCC for the rest of the season with Lyanco to really test our nerves. |
| Your Report | Southampton v Brentford Your Report added at 22:54:26 That was painful. Lots of effort and commitment and all that guff but totally lacking any passion, pace or intelligence. Selles has surely been around long enough to realise that Diallo and Mo are simply not up to it and that Walcott is not an impact player off the bench. As such we gifted them the first half and lets face it they were pretty ordinary. Should have made changes at half time. When subs did come on I struggle to see how Lavia, Walcott and Bree will find us a goal. If we are going down we might as well go down fighting. Show a bit of passion and gamble a bit. |
| Your Report | Southampton v Leicester City Your Report added at 00:30:40 A win is win so lets not over-analyse a pretty average performance. Only comment was that the substitutions were all wrong. Adam A and Mara were awful against Grimsby and as bad tonight. Mo was simply dreadful. Selles has to be ruthless and drop them entirely. Also I have generally been supportive of Bazunu this season but he just does not command his box. Again Selles has to make the call. |

| Your Report | Chelsea v Southampton Your Report added at 00:21:39 What a difference a week makes! Lets not get ahead of ourselves we didn't create many chances and still not sure what the plan is but who cares we won. Tall Paul and Sulemana are both good but not sure they play well together. We probably have to play Lavia and Alcaraz together for a while and hope they gel. Whatever anyone's views are it is pretty clear we get behind Selles (the players want to play for him), accept a few odd selection decisions and stop moaning in general. All hands to the pump. Away support was amazing today. |
| Your Report | Southampton v Wolverhampton Wanderers Your Report added at 18:32:11 Positives = Bree is calm and Ok. Lavia is class. Alcaraz looks good. Sulemena is like sh&t of a stick and will be really dangerous if he can find some end product. Salisu OK. Mauitland Niles best game since getting here Negatives = Although w eplayed OK in the first half we didnt create many chances against a poor side who lost it for 20 minute. We simply have too many players who are not premier league standard i.e. Bednarek, Perraud, Aribo, Adams and I am afraid Onuachu is not going to solve the problem. And then Jones. I have given him more of a chance than most but today he was outclassed by the Wolves guy. He waited far too long to bring the subs on, Traore was all over Perraud, all he needed to do was match him with Salisu or Lyanco. The 2 new guys and Lavia were out of puff on 60 mins and we totally lost shape. Basically when you play against 10 you keep the ball and stretch them not hoof it forward every time the keeper gets the ball. I sit just behind him and he is a bag of nerves through out the whole game barking complete twaddle at the players which IMO never works. We have to sack him but I am struggling to see who we can get to replace him. See Leeds for details. |
