So what is he hoping for? That just to prove him wrong we'll pick a completely different, weaker team? Does he think his mind games are that good? I suggest if he knows our team already he should then maybe set his mind to how to beat it, afterall he's got a good week or so to work on his plans, or is just gobbing off that are the only plans they have....wheel out Shane Warne

That TV clip is just cringe worthy - Clarke just desparate to get attention off aftermath of Pontings book. He's a good, sometimes great batsman, but just comes across as a complete tosser. Smug prefect from some posh school.
All good fun though and bring on first ball

Alastair Cook and Jonathan Trott both made unbeaten half-centuries as England took control against an Australia Invitational XI at tea on the second day of their final Ashes warm-up match.

He'll know the England team as we are a pretty solid unit who keep the same side most games, the Aussie team seems to be picked by the first 11 to pick a red ball out of a bag.
Should be a good series though, I think it will be close again but England to take it 3-1

Clarke is a tosser, even his own team think so. A talented tosser but a tosser all the same.
I see Mitchell Johnson has been shooting his mouth off again. Will he never learn? All together now, he bowls to the left, he bowls to the riiiiiiiiight, that Micthell Johnson....

Good news Finn appears to have bowled well in this last warm up game. Certainly on day 2, the reports from media and Trott are that he bowled with some real pace too. That's what I want to see....FIRE IT UP, FINNY! Sod your economy rate. Just run in and bowl as quick as you can and knock someone's block off.
We've got enough economy with Jimmy, Broad and Swann to afford a tearaway fast bowler. Tremlett's good but just a bit samey to Broad.

I worry about Finn. Fiddling around with his action seems to have set him back, much like what happened with Jimmy A. Also his economy rate is a real worry, read today all the 5 wicket hauls he’s got, are pretty much always accompanied by 100 plus runs conceded. The Aussies will target him and that is a concern, if the runs get out of control on a flat wicket, we could be in for some long days. A settled and hostile Finn would be a trump card no doubt, he’s young and quick which will concern the Aussies. An unsettled and timid Finn is a waste. The reports about his bowling on day 2 are encouraging mind.
Chris Trem bowled as good as anyone last time we were in Auz, if his fitness was less of an issue I would have had no hesitation picking him as the 3rd quick. Yes he’s not a 90mph bowler, but he gets bounce, often just as hard to play against.
Only a week now, no tickets booked, but will be out there for Perth and the build up to Melbourne. I think Trott and Cook are due after their failures at home, I can see long batting days ahead for both teams, and nothing but an England win.

But the blame completely lies with the England coaching staff. Last winter ahead of the NZ tour he was bowling very well and very quick - consistently 90-95. And then they shortened his run up. He bowled crap in NZ and has been erratic since. He went back to his long run up but lacked rhythm, which is unsurprising given all the tweaking they did.
What England have with Finn is young, tall, quick, wicket taker. They should embrace this and encourage it not try to mould him into something he's not. Your economy isn't that important in Test Cricket. It's about wickets. Your average and your strike rate are MUCH more important. England sometimes forget this. Finn has the best career average and best career strike rate out of the lot. Now, I know that is because Jimmy had a wayward few years after he broke in, and would be far ahead of the others if this was discounted, but Finn's is still decent.
England should build him up, reassure him of his place and let him clear his mind and gain confidence. Instead, when someone slices him in the air for four through gully, you can see the anger and frustration on Cpt Cook's face not hiding that he'd much rather have Bresnan plodding in at 78 putting it on a length outside off.
With good man management and a hands off approach to his natural action, Finn is a wicket taker. Fastest English bowler ever to 50 Test wickets (in terms of Tests) and yet we seem keen to jettison him whenever he goes for a few. He still always gets wickets though. 5-100 is a damn sight better than 2-70, for example. In the same way, it's better to have the oppo 100-5 after 30 than 60-1. You need to take 20 wickets and better to have guys in the hutch than rely on the new batsmen getting out cheaply.
England's James Anderson is confident Jonny Bairstow would prove an able deputy if wicketkeeper Matt Prior is unfit for Thursday's first Ashes Test. Prior has played 57 successive Tests but is struggling to be fit for Brisbane because of a calf injury. He missed the final warm-up match in Sydney, with Bairstow deputising.

Spot on. Couldn't agree more

Don't wish to be pedantic but Finn was not the quickest to 50 wickets for England in terms of tests. There are 10 English bowlers who were quicker, amongst them Fred Trueman, Frank Tyson and Ian Botham.
Agree with the rest of the post though, With 3 steadier bowlers we can afford someone slightly more wayward but with wicket taking potential. Finn's test career economy rate is actually not as bad as some might think at 3.65. His strike rate is about 48 which is top class.

Sorry Camberley, you're right. He is the youngest ever Englishman to 50 test wickets. Slightly different but still impressive.
And as you say, that strike rate is excellent.

England will give Matt Prior as long as possible to prove his fitness for the first Ashes Test against Australia in Brisbane, starting on Thursday. The wicketkeeper has played 57 Tests in a row but is struggling to be fit for the game because of a torn calf muscle.

The Ashes start at midnight on Wednesday at the Gabba in Brisbane. England retained the Ashes in the summer by winning the home series 3-0 to record their third consecutive victory over Australia, after previously winning the last series held in Australia in 2010-11, by a 3-1 margin.

So Australia won the toss and elected to bat and it sounds like a hard batting wicket and with the forecast being good (shock horror) if we don't get a few before lunch wickets then a draw is the best we can hope for. Match deciding first session then!
Thought there might have been some insomniacs watching first session or so? Good start for England and from 71/1 to 82/4 incl Clarke for 1. Broad been copping plenty but great response. Normally a result pitch at GABBA so important first day and another wicket or 2 and into the bowlers...

Great start and now 132 for 6. All England so far.
Well the Aussies were going to give Broad the cold shoulder, that didn't really work did it? The Aussies never get the point that what rattles them doesn't work on many other nationalities.
