Australia all-rounder Shane Watson faces a battle to be fit for the first Ashes Test in Brisbane on 21 November.

The 32-year-old sustained a hamstring injury while bowling in Australia's final one-day international against India last Saturday.

Ah well, the poor little bastards haven't had much to celebrate.....shit Olympics,Gillard, sharks chomping surfers,Rolf Harris.....

Only kidding.

Or am I?

Pretty much correct on all of the above with the exception of Sydney 2000 Olympics. A bit of a shit place if you ask me, but it is generally acknowledged their Olympics was wonderful. Gillard and Rudd were worse than anything imaginable. Put us half a trillion dollars in debt after inheriting a healthy surplus ... go figure!

Well we've passed 200 for the 1st time in the series so the improvement is there to see.
Fair play to the convicts for giving us the mother of all pastings but it is not over yet.
They're just as fallible as us when put under pressure so we need to win the toss in the next one and score big.
It ain't over until the fat slapper sings!!!!!!!

And if you think Cook's dismissal was appalling (which it was ),then what about Bell? Our best batsman just p--ses his wicket away.

At least there was some improvement and fight shown today.

Cook, Carberry and Bell still managed to let the side down but the rest showed some common sense and at least look to be on the way back to some sort of form. It's never over until it's over and there could be some rain tomorrow in which case we might be able to keep the Aussies out there for long enough to hurt them. It's vital that we keep their bowlers busy before the third test.

If we lose then there's no point in dismantling this side - we need to gradually change it. I can't see that Swann has contributed much and would keep Monty. I wouldn't play Bresnan at Perth - would try Rankin or Finn. The rest will have to try again.

England's last four batsmen must survive the entire final day of the second Test to snatch an improbable draw as Australia close in on a 2-0 series lead.
The battered tourists will resume on 247-6, 284 runs adrift of what would be an unparalleled and utterly unrealistic win, without a single specialist batsman left.

i would love it if w ewere all out for lunch and then for it to rain none stop just after lunch for the day

maybe then the players would realise just how stupid they have been giving thier wickets away

least a few of them showed some bottle 2nd time round 300+ if they done that each time we wouldnt be in the poo!

I'd bring Finn back for the next test, it's shit or busy now and he can take wickets. I'd also think about dropping Swann, Monty looked the better bowler in this test

Only the second time England have lost successive Tests by more than 200 runs (last time was 1908, also in Australia).

Problem is, Finn hasn't been even getting wickets recently. Maybe drop most of them and use the three games to blood some younger players?

i was at trent bridge in the summer and finn was awful however, he has always been a wicket taker rather than an economical bowler. so the question is do we want bowlers that are economical but trundle in over after over and dont take any wickets (see the clarke and haddin partnership in the 1st innings) or a bowler thatll go for a few runs but will get an end result. whats the harm in putting him in the starting line up instead of monty??

i think leaving compton out of the side mightve been a real mistake, he plays on a pretty flat wicket with bounce for his county and cant do any worse than the others have. he always strikes me as a batsman with the same sort of calm exterior and ability to leave the ball as trott, we need someone to bore the aussie into submission.

id love to know how and why james taylor isnt viewed as a possible candidate, his size would force the aussies to constantly adjust their line and length especially on a wicket like perth! johnson would struggle with it, and we all know what happens to him when that occurrs.

some of englands 2nd innings gave me hope that retaining the ashes isnt beyond england "yet"

I think retaining the ashes has gone, if we can fight back and lose 3-2 I'd take that now

2-0 to Oz. I still don't rate them though. We must be really bad to be 2-0 down. Surely there's a twist in the tail here? Oz will go for 5-0 and in so doing they'll set the pitches up to give us a chance to get back in. It's so obvious that we have to win this test that it's not even worth saying, but I really do give us a chance. Enough players seem to be crawling back into some sort of form to give us hope. If Cook can join them and we don't persevere with Swann then it could happen. OK I'm an optimist

England have been unbelievably village cricket level.
I saw some stats earlier and if memory serves we have been out 6 times bowled, lbw 1 ..i think that's right, and caught 33 times of which 21 of those have been the hook or pull shot. literally playing into their hands

I think that Trott's problems has stuffed them up a bit. They're a proper team and that must have shaken them up. I heard on the radio that Prior was looking after Trott during the first test and that must have been tough. Good to see him get some runs. Can we get it together? yes. Will we? I dunno but it's possible.

Yeah def not helped losing our no 3 i know, but also saw Strauss on ssn saying Root batted the way it should be done, no big extravagant shots, just pushing the ball around.
It's like as if our players are compulsive hookers & pullers.......add your own jokes!
