Strikers - Their Promise faded away 18:52 - Mar 5 with 5656 views | Gloucs_R | Name a striker who had lots of potential but never actually made it.... Jermaine Beckford - banged in the goals for Leeds, went to Everton and scored 1 in 4 but didnt make the grade and is now at Huddesfield

Strikers - Their Promise faded away on 22:51 - Mar 5 with 1176 views | TacticalR | After his injury I thought Gallen was still a good player. Maybe he didn't score as much as he used to, but he was a good hold-up man who made thoughtful passes. Hopefully they can get him back into the youth structure at QPR.

Strikers - Their Promise faded away on 21:21 - Mar 5 by Sudbury_Hill_R | And in a very similar way, Peter Marinelo just a few years earlier at Arsenal. |
Peter Marinello - what a sad tale. He was so hyped up by the press at the time. Marinello started his career at Hibernian, and could play either as a forward or right winger. He was regarded as being talented enough there that he was dubbed "the next George Best" by the British press.[3] In January 1970 he joined Arsenal for £100,000 (a club record fee and the first time Arsenal had paid a six-figure sum for a player) and he scored on his debut, against Manchester United at Old Trafford on 10 January 1970. However after that his career quickly took a downturn, a combination of homesickness,[4] his celebrity lifestyle and heavy drinking[5] and a knee injury[5] led to a dip in form which meant he was left out of Arsenal's first team; he did not take part in Arsenal's Inter-Cities Fairs Cup triumph of 1970 and only played three matches in their 1970-71 Double-winning campaign.[4] Unable to break into the first team consistently in his Arsenal career, he only played eight league matches in 1971-72 and thirteen in 1972-73; he eventually left Arsenal in July 1973 for Portsmouth after failing to agree a new contract.[5] In total he played 51 matches for Arsenal, scoring five goals. He later played for Motherwell, Fulham, Phoenix Inferno, Heart of Midlothian and Partick Thistle. Though he retired a wealthy man,[4] a failed business venture left him bankrupt in 1994,[5] and he suffered a nervous breakdown.[4] He now lives in Bournemouth, Dorset.[5]

Possibly the least composed striker I've ever seen when one on one with a keeper. Only ever remember him scoring once outside the box too. Theo Walcott's another one. But all his striking potential was wasted by Wenger playing him as a winger. He's playing a few more games up front these days and doing okay to be fair but he's missed out on years of experience in that position.

Strikers - Their Promise faded away on 12:35 - Mar 6 with 959 views | GroveR | We might be bad but Chels** has been a striker's graveyard for the past 25 years. With the exception of Drogba, Jimmy Floyd HasToWánk, Eidur Gudjohnsen and Zola (if you count him as an out-and-out striker), pretty much anyone who's gone there has turned into an enormous bag of shite. Torres - nuff said Shevchenko - most feared striker in Europe at one point, touch of a rapist at Chels** (to be fair, Rebrov fared no better at Spuds) Crespo - his record suggests otherwise but I'm fairly sure he was toilet Mutu - started like a train, ended up like a hoover Kezman - coveted by everyone at PSV, gash at Chels** Pizarro - rated in Italy, his career highlight was probably scoring against us in the cup That's without going into Chris Sutton, Robert Fleck, Tony Cascarino, Mick Harford or Joe Allon (throw that name at 9 out of 10 Chels** "fans" and wait for the look of utter bewilderment...)
