Can’t be playing field and varane together, just doesn’t work. Varane was excellent , field on the other hand. 😳 19 touches in 95 minutes of football in the centre of the park. And 4 passes all game. Jesus. The two goals in the week covered up another poor performance on the ball. The midfield always gets dominated . Need to go back to Varane x Morgan. Not only did he move it away from the mark the ref had made, at the point he took the kick, another City player was basically in the middle of our wall, where he was not allowed to be. The ref had made a line as well to indicate where the City players could/couldn't stand at the end of our wall - the City players and the ref then ignored it.
Thought he was very much a homer - gave several soft free kicks to City where the same challenges against us were not given. In fact, I thought Dickie fouled Alfie Lloyd a few seconds before they got the free kick which the goal came from.
Having said that, we were awful for most of the game particularly first half. |  |

Has it crossed your mind that Marti asked him to sit deep and just break it up? You could see City liked to knock it about and Field was instrumental in spoiling that.

We were pretty poor first half but had some decent chances in the 2nd so maybe just about deserved a draw .
We are certainly getting harder to beat and picking up points when not at our best which is a great sign .
Very pleased for Smyth he gets unfair criticism at times but he always gives his all and does a great job getting us up the pitch

We pressed and dominated the high positioning Norwich for most of the game and won by three goals.
While poorly performed in the first half vs free falling Oxford and won two goals.
Today’s poor performance is another evidence.
The difference is Morgan vs Field.
Impression is: Morgan brings attacking football, Field brings passive defensive play.

If it was a lower league side out of their depth away against Man City playing for a replay, I'd say fair enough. Obvious gulf in class, do what you can lads...
But this is Bristol f***ing City, 5pts above us in mid-table.
That first 60 mins was absolute grade A horse sh*t in terms of ball retention, at least our defense was solid enough restricting them to scraps, keeping us in the game.
Lloyd helped 2nd half as you need that type of player away from home backs-to-wall, Varane was solid and you could see after the addition of Chair, Madsen & Paal we were somewhat more functional at retaining the ball, for more than 3 seconds.
Another point in the bag however, steering us further from the drop zone. With a week’s rest, I expect a much better showing at home against Preston. A win there would cap off a strong recent points return and put us in a far more comfortable position heading into Jan compared to where we were just a few weeks ago. |  | | |

I am assuming it doesn't as Sam made plenty of blocks over the ninety minutes.
At the end of the day THE TEAM battled hard and earned a point. It wasn't pretty but it didn't have to be.

BBC states 30% possession by whole team. Assuming the ball was in play no more than 60 minutes that should mean our whole team would only have had the ball for about 18 minutes. That’s 18 minutes spread between 11 players excluding subs. Tbh, I’m more surprised any of our players had more than 20 touches. | | | |

I hate these 1230 kick offs we always look half asleep in the first half. Currently no wins this season for any lunchtime game. If Sky want to relegate us next season they should show all our matches live at 1230 as we never seem to play well in early kick offs.
My Leeds mate texted me to say their game at Preston was drab. I don't think players like early games as not psyched up enough with less time to prepare. Not only are Sky wrecking things for those who travel to games at silly hours but they are serving up dire tv spectacles with early games. |  | | |

A very good performance to get a point, agree very passive in the first half and struggled to get out of own half. Better in the second half mixing between playing out and lumping it long. Great goal from Smyth, he does get lots of pesters for his lack of quality and end product, but that was a sublime finish today! We are defending much better as a team and becoming hard to beat. Plus a few now chipping in with goals. A weeks rest now until Preston, hopefully a better performance to give us some festive cheer!

Ashby had a couple of aberrations second half but aside from that, thought the entire back four and the two centre mids were excellent. Perhaps Field was less involved as Varane seemed to intercept practically everything that came through the centre.
Smyth even beyond the goal was very good in front of Dunne.
In games like these you need a no 9 and no 10 to occupy the opposition on the rare occasions the ball gets forward, that didn’t happen with Andersen and Kolli. Saito also had an indifferent day.
In the heat of the game, we are ineffective in the oppo half, or at least until they tire. Basically the back 6 need more from the front four. |  | | |
