Brexit which was promoted by Farage and Trump was meant to increase trade between US and UK. Now Trump is promoting a trade war and increased taxes on imports.

Brexit was for UK to be in the drive for free global trade.

There is also a concern of getting US permission to use UK missiles in Ukraine as it involves somewhere in the engineering US

I think labour's £30 billion tax raid on UK business will do more damage to our Growth prospects than Trump winning the US presidential election.

Labour's borrowing and spending splurge will also put up our inflation rate. Both have been confirmed by the OBR.

Brexit is on course to cut UK trade by 15 per cent, the government’s independent financial watchdog has warned.

The Senedd is not in charge of macro economics. Brexiteers are looking for anyone to pin the blame on for the Brexit disaster. Try. Drakeford. Yeah right.

The OBR will no doubt be criticised by many, but it’s the nearest thing we have to independent scrutiny of government policy/action and it paints a really poor picture. I dare say that’s why Truss and Kwarteng sidelined the OBR back in the day.

Brexit was the will of the people and it’s here to stay at least for the next 5 to 10 years. Brexit meant different things to different people, but I suspect a common theme would have been less immigration. I think most people with half a brain knew there’d be an economic hit (and we’re happy to take a smallish hit) despite claims it would be the easiest deal ever etc. but a 15% hit if huge. The withdrawal deal was poorly executed and riddled with political and personal agendas. We were let down by our politicians many of whom remain unhappy with what we have, and in terms of the Lord Frosts of the world they want to move further to the right.

The 15 percent relates to a long term forecast of trade intensity with the EU only. This is explained as imports and exports being roughly 15 percent down but with no impact on the current account, so less transactions but no drain on resources, UK economic growth has been in line with many other developed economies

If you can be bothered to go through it, be aware that there is a big caveat the end saying this is all very, very difficult to predict.

It's a forecast cut of trade intensity not overall trade. You can read the whole report in my post above.

The thing that stands out about this thread is the way the Remoaners failed to understand the 15% figure. Could it be that they start with a conclusion and then look for evidence, rather than the reverse?

No some people can read ….

In October 2021, the UK government's Office of Budget Responsibility calculated that Brexit would cost 4% of GDP per annum over the long term. 4% of 2021 UK GDP is the equivalent of a £32 billion cost per annum to the UK taxpayer. After rebates, the UK's EU membership fee in 2018 was £13.2 billion.

Now i know the average Brexidiot supporter is a bit dim but even they should not find this too difficult to understand. They were lied to by posh people 👍

Actually, this is a good example of the problem. Some lift a quote straight off Wiki (not the most reliable source when it comes to detail), rather than following JACKMANANDBOY's sensible suggestion to read the whole OBR report with more care.

Well the numbers are wrong, after all abatements the figure may be as low as 8 billion. That wasn't really the point for many of us though and there are many other expenses we didn't find worth paying, Not least of which was the open borders policy which is still creating a mess on the continet, surely you are not happy with the rise of the far right across the continent?

But yes, I can agree it's a mess but mostly because of the lunatics being in charge of the asylum for far too long, on both sides of that fence.
