However to say ' he will be a great player for us if nurtured properly' is your opinion based on not a lot.
If another club offers us several million for him then I would accept it and invest it in another good prospect bearing in mind Armstrong could walk away for nothing.

I don't think anyone is going to pay several million for a player who is out of contract at the end of the season and has more potential than proven contribution.
I've really enjoyed having him in the squad but part of that is because he had pace in a team of snails so added something different. Hopefully we're addressing that a bit and won't be so glacial across the rest of the squad.
He seems like a nice lad and is fun to have around with his enthusiam and passion but I certainly wouldn't be throwing money to keep him. He really needs some time out on loan to work on aspects of his game and no-one will do that if he's only on a two year contract which is what his agent keeps persuading him to sign seemingly.

I think as clubs seemingly in today's supposedly more savvy and more socially acceptable world we are meant to live in today as a duty of care and especially to younger players, warnings and advice to players that certain agents will not necessarily have your own personal career options in mind and for players to have some awareness that most agents are just in it for their own personal financial gain above the players long term welfare and career progression.
Loyalty also is so not a thing in football today.

I'll keep with my view for the whole of last season.
I do not see what the infatuation is with this kid.
He cannot trap a bag of cement and has zero footballing intelligence.
How many time last season was he through on goal yet a heavy touch turns it into a 50/50 with the keeper or a back pass. And don't get me started on how many times he was caught offside if wide positions when he can see the entire oppo's back line.
Never took an interest in his youth and U23 record but ill hedge my bets by saying he used his strength like a flat track bully to out muscle defenders and bag a hatful of goals.
Any experienced defender alla Steve Cook will have seen a hundred Armstrong's and dealt with them comfortably.
I wish no bad on the kid. I hope he proves me wrong (like Eze who I thought was a lazy so and so!) and goes on to play Prem football...... I just can't see it.

Decent enough lad by all accounts, likeble boy.....not sure that he is the 'full ticket' though.
As for his playing skills, very limited indeed.....he gave us enough option basically but that is it. Not sure that he will ever be a regular Championship level striker. If he leaves then sobeit, not the end of the world, would be nice to get a couple of quid for him though. | | | |

He clearly (possibly his agent) thinks he is better than what he is.
But in his defense, he's been poorly managed by us. We were desperate, threw him in to the deep end and put lots of hopes and dreams on him.
The reality is, he's currently a League 1 / 2 player who needs to be playing at that level, learning the game and scoring goals. Could he be a Championship striker in 2/3 years, possibly. He's certainly got a lot of the attributes but does miss some of the foundations. But he's not going to get to that level without playing 30+ games in the lower leagues next season. If he think he's going to go to Bristol and be anything more than a bench warmer, coming on for the last 20 mins, then he's in for a bit of a shock.
So unlike Chair (Stevenage) and Eze (Wycombe), I think we have handled it poorly but needs must and all that.
PS - Kolli is another one we are getting all excited about, I would like him (and Walsh for that matter) to go out on loan for a season. |  |

Used in the right system, against specific opponents he can be impactful, by impactful we're talking getting the team up there, winning corners / throw-ins, running the channel and maybe a goal here and there.
Those players do have a place in teams, as long as everyone is on board with their limitations and expectations are moderate. I could see a League 1 / lower champ player in there sure.
The thing with physical attributes is that when they are matched (thinking Diaby sheff wed at home), you need something else to fall back on (technical ability / game intelligence etc), which right now is lacking.
Wish him all the best but feel he's not a Marti type player. In a 433 or 4231 his attributes just don't compliment the team well enough. Impact sub maybe, but evidently he feels better than that though i believe he needs to learn his trade at a lower level. |  | | |
