The Great Escape: other games thread. 20:50 - Dec 30 with 28857 views | 442Dale | When we avoided relegation in 17/18 after being so far adrift, I think there was a similar thread towards the end of the season which followed the scores of the other clubs around us. In the spirit of superstition starting it now could help again. Theory being the earlier the better and safe by Easter. Crawley losing 2-0 to Stevenage at the moment tonight.

The Great Escape: other games thread. on 11:52 - Mar 8 with 3651 views | seasidedale | The escape in 17/18 when we were far behind, the difference between then and now is we had a few games (4 I think) in hand, I know you have to win them but we did.
The Great Escape: other games thread. on 16:48 - Mar 8 with 3194 views | _Stefan_Kuntz | Hartlepool have a better points-per-game ratio than Crawley, so it is necessary to finish above Hartlepool. At their present points-per-game ratio the finishing total for Hartlepool would be :- (29 / 35) * 46 = 38.11 If Dale continue to have a better goal difference than Hartlepool, which is likely if Dale get to the same points as Hartlepool, then the Dale points target is therefor 39 or more likely 38. So for Dale 1 point per game from now on could be enough. The number of points that would certainly keep Dale up is a fantasy target. Consider 39 or 38 and just hope. [Post edited 8 Mar 2023 16:53]

The trouble with "average points per game" is Dale have the worst average, so its useless speculating Best to take things one round of games at a time. All we can ask is we give ourselves a chance

The Great Escape: other games thread. on 17:54 - Mar 8 with 3074 views | _Stefan_Kuntz | We have to be optimistic that the Dale average slightly increases and the Hartlepool / Crawley average remains the same or diminishes. A point per game is not a fantasy target for Dale. It might just be enough. Meanwhile of course we take one game at a time. We can concurrently look at the big picture and take one game at a time. Agree completely. All we can hope is that at some point we are in control of our own destiny..at the moment we are a good 3 or 4 games away from this..

Who is "we" ? It's a fair question, since aren't you a Carlisle fan? Meanwhile, please spare us the platitudes [Post edited 8 Mar 2023 18:10]

The Great Escape: other games thread. on 18:26 - Mar 8 with 2974 views | dingdangblue | Back to back wins is all we need to be interested in at the moment. After the Stevenage win another win at Grimsby would have the players buzzing for the next home game v Swindon. Anything other than a win at this stage would see our momentum halted - just for confidence alone 3 points is imperative.

The Great Escape: other games thread. on 18:30 - Mar 8 with 2960 views | _Stefan_Kuntz | Yes, I am a Carlisle United fan. By "we" I mean anyone who wants Dale to avoid relegation. I have not issued any platitudes. I want Dale to avoid relegation. I have specified a likely target of points that will give Dale a chance. Getting to that target is not a guarantee of staying up but it is a possibility to achieve it and it may just be enough.

The Great Escape: other games thread. on 19:40 - Mar 8 with 2829 views | _Stefan_Kuntz | No platitudes whatsoever have been posted by me. I merely hope that Dale do not get relegated and I estimate what a narrow escape path could be. Various people have posted some very high estimates of the number of points needed which it is easy to prove from past seasons are alarmist and out of reach. I estimate that 39 points may well just about be enough, possibly 38 may be enough. One point per game from now on is not a fantasy. It can be done, then let's see what it achieves.

Add to that further rearranged midweek games at home to Oldham and Plymouth in late April, which were both draws. It was the wins in scheduled fixtures against the likes of Shrewsbury, bury, Peterborough and Charlton which really helped us.

The Great Escape: other games thread. on 22:01 - Mar 7 by Brierls | If it wasn’t two from three before, it is now. I had a feeling (hope!) that Harrogate would slip into the battle but I think they’ve done enough with that win tonight. Our two losses against Hartlepool are looking even more grim right now. |
Looks that way now. 3 clubs 6 points clear and perhaps one of them will have a nightmare run. Huge game against Crawley coming up soon, but we also need Hartlepool to keep losing points. As someone else posted, losing all 6 points to them could be the difference at the end of the season. Lose to Crawley and we will have gained 1 point from 12 from those 2 teams

Interesting point SK. I personally went into BBM mode somewhile ago and stopped looking at the league table when it became truly depressing and I had lost hope. I confess I had a little peek at the table after we sent Stevenage packing. Allowed myself another peek after Crawleys loss on Tuesday. Well knock me down with a stick of rhubarb am now back in full speculation mode. I even allowed myself the fantasy of imagining what the table will look like if we see Grimsby off and the other two in this damnable threesome both lose. The what ifs, buts and maybes are part and parcel of football and having gone through your posts I am unable to detect a single platitude. Thanks also for the good wishes on our survival. Let's have it right Ideally, both sides will engage in a mass brawl, resulting in 3 match bans for their starting XI making them ineligible for the rest of season. Both sets of fans will join in, resulting in a 6 point deduction for both sides Whilst we're at it, Dale will extend their unbeaten run meaning we're mathematically safe from that date. What's not to like? [Post edited 9 Mar 2023 13:29]

I agree even though one of them is top of our Prediction League 🤬 Some of us post on their forum as well, Stefan is a good guy & a bit like our TVOS, I don’t see DA’s comment about being a Carlisle Fan & “we” was about.. There is no rivalry between us & CUFC so banter aside it is a friendly exchange of views, I hope they do well & the same is reciprocated ..
