~ Dykes tried hard and not as bad as some claim
~ Some brilliant skills displayed at odd moments and places
~ no yellow cards

Bad
~ can’t cross a ball to a specific place /player
~ midfielders not supporting quickly or with confidence
~ general air of sleepiness
~ not taking responsibility

Critchley needs time

I have looked at the free kick very closely Brian

1 - Yes I agree that there were 3 at the back post......not sure why tbh. You may have a point about Field but I am not sure that he was responsible for stopping Morris but maybe he was there to stop the shorter lower cross, idk. BUT look at Dykes when Morris makes his initial movement run, stops and then starts again, he is then free. Agreed there was Field and Dykes watching Morris score, perhaps some talking should have been going on. Gut feeling it was Dykes who should be dealing with the cross.

3 - Agreed.

4 - Tim was nowhere near Potts but I think that he was the marker.

5 - I get what you are saying but if Dunne was not there then a big gap would appear so I presume he was free and zonal if the ball came in that area....not exactly sure but we cannot have a big gap in the defensive line.

TBH I really do not understand all this stuff any more because I was always taught to get 'goal side' of the opposition but now with the offside rule or whatever they do not play it that way.

I'm the exact same as you on set pieces gazza. I can't for the life of me see what zonal marking offers and why so many coaches favour it, I often can't understand the positioning of our players or oppo players, and I can't understand - ever - how players can get away unmarked and unchallenged.
