Joe Allen Coming Home ? 11:40 - Apr 14 with 3893 viewsSTID2017

Reports on PS that Joey is on a free transfer and looking to come home.
Would love it if something could be worked out.
Still a great player

If we got rid of Smith and Fulton then Joey on a wage that was suitable to the club and hopefully him... Yes it would be a decent bit of business.

It could work on a rolling contract. But has to be realistic salary wise. If he wants to repay the club that made him he needs to be as well.

But fulton and Smith are not regular starters...surely Joey should be if he returned...time for sentimentality to go here Im afraid...we are looking to build not revert to bringing back old players in their twilight..as much as a mini legend he was given our finances and we want Wolf next season too dont we?

We talk a bout getting nore "martintype" players this summer where is all this money coming from?

Jasper has pointed out in several threads how finances in the Championship are and I think we will be surprised at the reduced income next season from seasn ticket take ups.

We are a club in debt deeper than we have been since the rise from the Petty days....we joke about how Tan has driven Caridff but we are starting down the same road with loans form shareholders which could be convertable....Winter has alreadt intimated we will need further borrowing.....s omuch for the next level but at least w we do seem to be beong run with some prudency...so whilst my heart would ay yes my head says no.

Like John Hartson he was very keen to return to the club at 32 when his legs were gone having filled his boots at WBA. Roberto showed the decency to speak to him and wish him well but no deal at Swansea. It is not a retirement home.

Huw Jenkins put an offer on the table at Liverpool and all Joey had to do was not sign anywhere else. He was down to 12 months and they wanted to move him on. Mesa told Swansea he was going to Seville no where else. Swansea were forced to accept his terms.

An excellent prospective signing if it comes with a sensible wage.
He still has a great deal to offer if his performance for Cymru against Austria was anything to go by.

If both were signed on a similar wage, what would you orefer

A 31yr old Korey Smith signing on for another year or 2

Or

32yr old Joe Allen signing a contract of the same length?

Definetly Joey Allen.
Still has plenty to offer.

We'd all take him over Smith, but Smith is nowhere near our starting 11 in Joey's position and fingers crossed won't be getting an extension regardless of what else happens.

Great thread and a classic example of how difficult any prospective transfer is. Either option is equally right and wrong

I've told you before no contact was made with Joe, he was waiting for the call from your demi god but it never arrived. How do I know this ? From Joe himself but what does he know eh !!

I am sure Liverpool would have happily expected 7 million less from us rather than allowing him to go to Stoke anyway.

As I have said many times one of the worst (realistic) signings we didn't make.

Quality player wasted at Stoke.

More complete cachu.

Huw made an offer to Liverpool that wasn't high enough. And was too tight to up it slightly. Huw admits it himself that was a mistake.

No one bite the thread ruining bait.

Allen would be a sensible transfer if the wages are right.. if not avoid then give Korey and extension. Very simple for me!
