Dog thefts 20:04 - Feb 18 with 8646 views | enfieldargh | Probably prevalent in most area but my part of North LOndon aggravated dog theft on the rise. Heard of soft targets walking their dogs having them aggressively stolen Today in Winchmore Hill a dog walkers van was hijacked with 3 dogs inside; van found later on with only one badly wounded dog inside, the other two vanished. Dog thefts on 22:32 - Feb 19 by wombat | Go onto gumtree and some other sites and I’ll lay odd half the dogs on there are stolen , we are actually changing where we walk our two recently as it’s so bad with dogs being stolen around Middx , after losing both of our rescues last year if anyone tried it with these two they would be hanging from one of the local trees within five mins of me catching them and it wouldn’t be by there neck either . Rescues are filling up already with dogs who aren’t soft and cuddly anymore and actually need walking feeding a bit more etc |
Anywhere in particular Wombat regarding Middx? It’s something I’m very concerned about for all the obvious reasons - not heard anything going on in the Uxb/Hillingdon areas.
Dog thefts on 00:22 - Feb 20 with 2298 views | timcocking | Devastating. If somebody stole my dog or cat, they'd be stealing my children. I'd kill them for it if i could. Should be treated as seriously as kidnapping.

Dog thefts on 17:21 - Feb 26 with 1835 views | distortR | I agree with everything already said, dog theft is bloody awful - I'm a dog owner. But it also makes me ruminate on the society we live in where everything has to be commodified and fashion must extend to everything. [Post edited 26 Feb 2021 17:41]

Dog thefts on 00:33 - Feb 27 with 1747 views | FredManRave | My nephew told me recently about how common dog theft was where he lived, which is in central Croydon. People literally don't take their dogs out for walks in the evening due to the situation. Unbelievable to even write that. I'm still of the opinion that until there is not one dog in a dog shelter in England no sales of "Special Breed" dogs should be allowed.

Great post FredManRave there is going to be so many dogs abandoned or dropped off in shelters once the Covid pandemic winds down. Everytime I go into my local animal shelter (non kill )to drop off donations the dogs try and attract your attention like they know there is a chance a family will take them. Even this evening I was petting one beautiful dog (abused of course but healing )and she literally tried to get out through the bars from the front and the side .I try and not make eye contact with them or I will feel too guilty leaving empty handed . Luckily every Saturday and Sunday almost every dog is adopted there its fantastic and like a lot of posters on here I encourage anybody looking to get a dog to rescue one first .Its a humbling feeling how much a dog will repay you with love and complete trust

Who gets the $500.000 then I wonder . Going off her comments the dogwalker who got shot fought to save the dogs from the dognapper and once he recovers will be financially set for life I suspect
Dog thefts on 19:15 - Feb 27 with 1483 views | loftboy | There’s not day goes by on my FB feed that either a theft or “scam vans” trying to entice people to hand over their dogs to check the micro chip goes by. Again this problem has grown with the coincidence of a growing population from certain Eastern European countries.

Dog thefts on 19:56 - Feb 27 with 1449 views | eghamranger | We had some lads round our estates recently knocking and saying they were from First developments or similar... turns out they were trying to find out who has dogs and who doesn’t. We have a Golden retriever who’s nearly 10, but they were more looking for the new trendy cross poodle types. They go for well over £ 3000. Police were completely not interested

I can't imagine what it would be like to have a pet stolen and not returned. We once had a call asking for a reward for our missing cat, which had literally been fed 5 minutes before. Some crackheads had taken it off the doorstep in Queen's Park and needed drug money. Another time somebody tried to untie my 50 kilo mastiff cross from outside a supermarket in Cornwall and got a very nasty shock when he declined to go with. Scary as fck but watching the CCtV afterwards was hilarious. He saw off the bloke and then strolled in the shop calm as you like to find me. I only found out when a call went out over the tannoy asking "for the owner of a big red dog to come to customer service s" where upon a very small lady was giving him cuddles. Even so I am a lot more careful now. For all the very real anger and distress caused by this I think we should remember the chances of it happening are very slim. Yes thefts are up 170% but that is from 172 dogs in 2019 to 465 dogs in 2020. The UK dog population is said to be approximately 9 million. Hopefully with more awareness and people taking more precautions that figure will drop. Loftboy, it's interesting that you read on Facebook the culprits are Eastern Europeans. A mate of mine blamed Gypsies and over in Ireland Bryan is hearing it's English and Northern Irish gangs. I have no idea who the cnts are but these rumours sound very much like people blaming 'others'. I guess when some toerags get nicked we will find out if it is just prejudice or if the rumours are true. [Post edited 27 Feb 2021 22:18]

Really? With CCTV everywhere that is extremely high risk for relatively little money. A thief could make more nicking someone's wallet, watch and iphone with very little chance of getting caught. Mind you the police rarely investigate any thefts these days. They just hand out crime reference numbers. [Post edited 27 Feb 2021 22:41]

You'd think the Police Dogs would be interested in sniffing out the perps though.

With no good leads, they'd just end up chasing their tales... Seriously though, who is paying 3grand for a dog?! There was a bloke who used to post on here who would happily have sent over one of his rescue dogs for just the cost of postage and packaging and a small donation to his center.
