Cancer 22:20 - Dec 5 with 8375 viewsGowerjack

I've been posting on here for years and made some friends and a few foes!

I've some news.

I've been diagnosed with a tumour in my left kidney. I'm going into Morriston Hospital on Sunday for surgery to remove the offending article and hopefully that will be the end of the matter.

The point I want to make is that this was only found by chance whilst undergoing investigation for something else. My initial symptoms were only ongoing fatigue nothing more.

So please guys do yourselves a favour and badger your GP for blood tests or if you have private cover get yourself checked out.

You've nothing to lose and maybe plenty to gain!

Cheers

I’m sorry to hear that, Gwyr. I can well imagine what’s running through your mind but don’t lose heart. I’ve been there myself, twice. Even if the news isn’t good it’s not like receiving it forty or even twenty years ago; there’s been a revolution in treatment, this is another world.

Keep faith, brother. Tomorrow will be brighter.

Seconded. All the very best and very wise words.
When we can have our teeth checked every six months why the hell aren't blood tests and scans made available to everyone on a regular basis.

I can barely bring myself to watch anything or read anything about this disease. I just can't cope with it, never have.

But I want to just say I wish you all the best health in the world and pray everything goes well for you, which i'm sure it will!!!

Good luck Steve. The 5 year survival rate is very high if you catch it early before it metastises to another organ. You seemed to have done this, very important.

Unfortunately,I have not been so lucky as my colon cancer spread to the liver.

As you rightly say,get yourselves checked people, there are no symptoms most of the time with early cancer.

You could have it right now and be totally unaware.

Wishing you all the very best for Sunday and thereafter.

Just make sure you do one thing - never give in to a negative mindset about your predicament. I am a firm believer that a positive approach to this has an infleunce on the end outcome. Keep strong, keep focussed and don't be afraid to reach out for support if you need it; you;ll be surprised at what's out there for you if you need it.

Best wishes to you Gj. Im living proof that its not the end of the world. Im 27 years down the road from colon cancer. My best advice is to remain stoical but above all positive. You wont be without worries but time is a great healer. I am confident you will be ok.
