Ok, so the last game I saw was the WBA one - so its all an immense improvement...of course!!!!
We were clearly the better team here but Blues were truly abject. I remember when Gary Monk was a fresh up and coming manager playing ambitious and exciting football with Swansea...Gary, what has happened?
Few points of note -
Lumley looked assured except for one high cross which came in the first half which went across goal without being claimed or touched.
Angel - you can see all the experience here.
Defence generally - 2 clean sheets on the spin - they look so much happier not having to do the tippy tappy. Although tbf they did pass into midfield when they could - as well as going long at times. McLaren had the knack of getting a tight defence when he was here under Arry - might this become more than a couple of happy coincidences? Much too early to say - because we were under no quality pressure today. Just don't get me hoping...
Freeman - tries things just not his day.Same with Eze.
On another day we might have sneaked a 0-1 and that would not have flattered.

Whatever excuse you make it was a poor result against a team that is as bad if not worse than in the last 2 seasons.

Probably two points dropped but not getting beat most important given recent circumstances. McClaren's now got what we can give him and an international break to coach it - no more excuses, no get out of jails in January.

"Freeman - tries things just not his day.Same with Eze"

Fairly certain most days will be like this if we're to keep playing them out on the flanks...

What was i thinking...Freeman of course. I put the blame on two bottles of white wine.

Which bottle was it that caused the problem? For future reference, it might help you to know.

Small baby steps though Clive? Two successive clean sheets in the league after conceding a goal every 15 minutes in the preceding game and a half has to be a positive?

I was pleased we came away with a clean sheet - and hence the points, but dear me I think Brum are in big trouble, we could and quite probably should have won this game and in that sense our lack of confidence after that shocking start to the season played it's part for me, I was of the view Pavel should have come on down the flank much earlier, possibly for Eze, and or Luongo and move Freeman into the middle.
It gives me some heart though that we're not the worst side around and we can despite my fears before the season starts get out of the current predicament, BUT the last sub and the way we dallied alot with the ball in the latter stages with a clear eye to get a point could be a failing as much as a crucial point come May.

I suspect Birmingham too are in for a torrid winter to come.

It’s a tricky one as if we’d attacked in the closing stages and conceded on the break then people would be saying we should’ve settled for a point.

The most important thing after WBA and Bristol City was to steady the ship which probably explains the more cautious approach yesterday. Time to push on after the international break.

If you can sit through that, wasting time with 20 minutes to go at 0-0 against Birmingham City, and be positive then good for you.

Actually that was flippant and I should be better than that.

Positives, as I said in the match report, they've done well to recover as quickly as they have and to the extent they have from the West Brom-Bristol City debacles. We've won two, drawn one, and kept two clean sheets, including one in an away game. Lumley looks good, the defence looks better, the attack looks better. That's positive, and no mean feat given the state of things 10 days ago.

But that match yesterday, as an overall spectacle, was about as bad as you'll ever see. We will not play a worse team this year than Birmingham yesterday IMO, they are a poor team and yesterday they were absolutely abject. We were miles and miles better than them and well on top around the 60-65 minute mark. He's got Smyth, Wszolek, Smith and Samuel on the bench to bring on and press home the advantage. We never win away games, here was a golden chance. What do we do? Start clock running. Lumley taking the ball to the corner of his area and waiting with it for somebody to come and close him down. Rangel kicking the ball away and wasting time on our throw in. Cameron, a defender, brought on for Hemed.

On a Saturday I'm a supporter like everybody else. I'm there every week and I'm yelling and screaming and singing and supporting. But this website is not here to be some extension of the official website, some club mouthpiece, blindly trotting out positives and putting a happy slant on everything - whatever the Twitter twts say. We call a spade a spade on here. If the club is worthy of praise we'll give them it, and we've been very supportive of Hoos in particular because we think he does a good job, Chris Ramsey, Les Ferdinand to a point and others. We've regularly called supporters out for needlessly and senselessly abusing people at the club, players, etc. But if we go to Birmingham and sit through that bilge yesterday we'll come back and say "that was fcking hideous", because that's what we think.

So any chance of some positivity? Yeh, when they give us something to be positive about. Grinding the clock down when drawing 0-0 with one of, if not the, worst teams in the league aint it.

I can be even more negative, the whole day was a bit of a sh*tter for me.

Never done Birmingham before and am trying to tick a few more off this season, after parking two police officers directed us to the ground and made us aware of a pub that was for away fans. In I went in desperation to use a toilet only to discover the whole place had 'ZULU' stickers in the gents. On leaving asked the bouncer if we had got confused and was there an away pub around here, he just simply wished us luck. Absolutely no sign posts for away section or anyone to ask around the ground leading to us then walking with all the home fans - who weren't that welcoming tbh. We were no where near the away end and took an age to walk all around and find the little entrance we needed.

Getting into the ground the one window open to get anything to eat was shit, the stupid songs about Lee Camp I thought were shit, the ref was shit and we then because the only team to us about the much heralded dark arts when we hadn't actually scored.

Then queuing for over 40 minutes to get out, I don't think I'll be rushing back.

I have got to agree with you Northern. We were crying out for pace and width in the final 20 mins - so instead of bringing on BOS or little Smyth, McLaren brings on Cameron! And then he complains that we perhaps ought to have gone on and won won the game...!
I don't get it.
What I am beginning to comprehend is that Shteeve is understandably looking only yo the short term.
Professionally he can't afford another high profile failure on his CV, so he is racking and stacking reliable, older, experienced players who he thinks will do a short term job for him and the club...and tbf losing Onuaha, Robinson, Smithies etc experience was needed.
So what has the new management neglected...? They talk a good game about bringing on a young and talented squad, but they are not showing many signs making good on this. McLaren is now paying lip service to what he was brought in to do - i.e. coach the youngsters to success.
Evidence - Manning, Smyth, BOS, Chair not getting a meaningful game. Kakay dropped, Eze played out of position.
McLaren - in bringing in experience don't forget what you were appointed to do - bring the young through, build value, sensibly blood youth players within an established system.
Be bold - don't just rely on the "been there, done that, journeyman" brigade.

Soooooooooo VERY unlucky not to beat Brum then

Possession Home = 40% Away = 60%
Shots = 1 v 10!
On Target = 1 v 5!

That's football mate - after WBA, not many on here predicting 2 wins, 1 draw and only one goal (lucky!) conceded. THAT's the positive bit.

its like the football served up under paul hart , boring as feck , whats worse if we had the two strikers we now have last season , and played similar to how we played last season and got into peoples faces again we would at least look like we are trying , sticking eze and freeman out on the wings and then just changing them every 20 minutes is mclarens only tactical plan , hes not going to play youngsters losing kakay and stopping bidwell pushing on is killing us, we are serving up tedious football and pro will do for as long as McLaren is in charge
