When will it ever stop? Yes there may have been some dissenting voices, as there are on here, but yet again there was as much support as you can expect tonight. Fans certainly didn’t appear overly critical during the game.

Edit: full clip in other thread. The problem here is how Dale supporters are going to be viewed in the media, Radio Manchester are obviously all over it. It’ll be the Ob next. Not necessary after a heavy defeat.

Thank you 😀. Surely a dead ball scenario is slightly different though. Perhaps Harrison has been taking Ronaldoesque free kicks in training.

Hill said that was the case in training so my question is should Hill base his selections on what he sees on the training pitch or what the fans see watching games? Hill sees the same game as you do yet is still playing strange formations an example read the match thread again right from the get go there was a chorus of "what formation is it"? ''where is this player playing" and "what position is that player"

This is not the time for bickering.

Harrison taking free kicks has come out of nowhere and so even if he has pinged a few in training since Saturday, it's still no reason for him to take them. He's also one of our CBs and biggest players and should therefore be in the box ready to get on the end of the ball. The cheering wasn't sarcastic - it was borne out of genuine elation that KH has decided to stop being stubborn/Cannon had taken it upon himself to rectify the situation.

With regards to the Lillis booing, it was a little bit baffling because there's no other legitimate reason that he would be substituted other than him being injured. As has been pointed out however, this was only a minority of people and has given the manager a reason to talk about something else other than his own teams failings.

Does the formation have a bearing on the free kick taker?
However I agree some of the selections/formations are mind boggling

When I was sat in the pub at Burton and the team was announced for the first time I can remember the team was almost exactly what I expected the only change was McNulty in for Delaney and that only because Delaney was injured, an expected team and a logical formation and we won. Today the team had about 9 of my expected starters but I had no idea who was playing where and what tactics we were employing and we lost ( got hammered).
Barnsley won 4-2 at Burton last October and Burton won 2-1 at Barnsley in February, perhaps personnel have changed significantly but surely the gulf between Burton and Barnsley is not as great as the difference between us and Barnsley today!!
It looks to me as though the players are unsure of the roles they are being asked to play, surely picking players in there best/ usual position is better than trying to put square pegs in round holes?

The best Dale strikers in living memory have been Henderson Lambert Holt Murry and Jenkins if Hill had them now I wouldn't be surprised if he played 5 3 2 with the players mentioned playing across the back.

What if you didn't realise Lillis was injured? Plenty didn't. The only reason Hill should be peed off tonight is because HIS team were woeful and destroyed. Anything else is a distraction from how weak HIS team were against quality opposition. .

For those who didn’t realise Lillis was injured (and not having a mare), perhaps it would be time to engage brain and not jump to the conclusion that the manager is substituting the goalkeeper for tactical reasons and boo the substitution.

It’s farcical. If this had happened down the road you’d have been laughing your cock off at how stupid bury fans are. It didn’t happen down the road, it happened here, and the fans that booed are fcuking idiots.

The commentators thought the booing was due fans expecting an attacking player to come on. Booing on the 4th game of the season is at bit harsh though. Only 46 points left for safety and 44 games to get them

...and that is based on what?

Don’t talk such utter shite. By all means make a point, but there is no basis for that statement.

Tonight we started with a back three, all recognised centre backs, with two wingbacks, one recognised and the other a midfielder who made his breakthrough into our starting eleven as a right back/wingback.

Dale didn’t perform, and are open to criticism for that, but Barnsley were superb.

He can create as many diversionary tactics as he wants with these non stories, but we’ve conceded 8 goals in our last two home league games and that’s the facts. The budget was increased this year but the end product hasn’t improved, so far.

From the Sandy I wasn’t aware Lillis was injured and, although I didn’t boo, the cynic in me thought he was being substituted because of the stories about Prem team loanees demanding game time. Perhaps that was the general consensus that led to the booing. And quite right if that had been the case.

This is the most important post in this thread. Nobody would have booed if it was clear that Lillis was injured. He’s probably been carrying this injury for sometime, yet because our managers gives us no information on players fans are completely oblivious, where’s JT anyone? Dooley?

Hill has developed a reputation for stupid substitutions, sometimes done to humiliate our players. I genuinely believed last night was another one of those, until I saw Lillis rubbing his side and looking in pain.

There is nothing more to be said on the matter & Hill clearly isn’t stupid enough to believe people would have booed if they’d known he was injured. However it is yet another media shift to deflect blame away from himself, a little bit like the President...

Hilly is the best manager we have ever had, great fit to the club and 99% of fans wouldn't want to see him leave ...... but seriously sick of this type of comments from him.

You work in Football man, guess what , you're going to get -

Critized by fans
Have people who dont agree with you
Have bad days / matches like last night
Have few idiots in your ear with moronic comments

2 choices - Grow a thicker skin or do one and leave

Not sure there's any football club where the above things arent going to happen

As above 99% of sensible fans wouldn't want you to leave and as a club we need to be very re-realistic about what could happen (the John Coleman days still have a lot of us waking up in a cold sweat !!)

Vast majority of Dale fans are loyal, long suffering and do support the players

So seriously man stop playing the martyr / woe is me card - Its wearing a bit thin

His Mourinho style of blame everyone but me got tiresome a long time ago.

Yes, we know he's the best manager the club has ever had, yes he's developed players and brought in transfer fees. This doesn't make him immune from criticism though.

I think he forgets how easy he has it here sometimes. The majority of fans are behind him it's only a few that boo or shout things to him. He has pretty much free reign over who he signs and a massive say in who goes etc. He's under an extremely lengthy contract for a modern football manager. Why doesn't he go to a team with a bigger budget so he doesn't have to play that card every time but he'd have hardly any say in the transfer policy? Or a team that gets 20,000+ fans that more than half of them will get on his back for not winning for 5 games.

He talks about respect. He doesn't respect the fans with his repeated bullsh*t tarring everyone with the same brush when it's quite clearly and has always been the minority that vent frustrations during games.

He's boring.

I have to agree with most,if not all the comments on this forum and even KH about last night.

1. KH is correct in what we have achieved in being in League 1 for five successive seasons is amazing to say the least, especially when you consider the decades of failure. That Barnsley side last night was awesome to say the least, with Moore and the winger Thiam or some like that tearing down the wing was something to behold and to be honest we got off lightly last night with just conceding four goals, he could have been six or more.

2. The fans in the Sandy, did not know that Lillis was injured and presumed that KH being KH was just making a point to the fans in the way he does.

3. KH is a sensitive soul and does he not understand or seems to appreciate, especially after last season, when there was no calls for him to be sacked, despite being in the bottom for most of the season, that the vast majority of fans are behind him and support him. However at time is team selection leaves people baffled.

4. The team selection last night was odd and he seems not have learnt the lessonsfrom last season, when he was playing people out of position or selecting them just to make a point. MJ Williams is far too negative for me and reduces the creative edge of the midfield, Nlith cannot demand and if he is going to be used, use him as a winger, like last season Rafferty who is a good league 1 defender is in and out of the team. We seemed to adopt last seasons approach of lumping the balls forward for Andrews, which did not work last season and is not working again, we are best when we pass the ball on the ground and run at defences, which he adopted towards the end of the season and got us results we needed to survive. KH should pick his best team and not his favourites or one to prove a point to the fans.

My message to Keith is please pick the best team and please Keith keep the passing game that as been successful for so many seasons and accept that lumping the ball forward is not the answer, because it makes defending so easy for the opposition defence.

The majority of the booing seemed to come from behind the away dugout in the main stand. In my experience, quite a bit of the abuse towards Hilly comes from there too.

Definitely. The same area which from where Hilly got himself involved in a verbal spat not too long ago, by responding to unsavoury and negative comments. Why people would simply 'assume' that Keith Hil was removing Lilis from the field of play 'for the sake of it' is baffling. Give the bloke some credit. It's not a training session.

We were getting mullered all over the park.
We could barely retain the ball
The only glimmer of hope was a small handful of dead ball situations.

Harrison had taken 3 i think, the most memorable of which was booted straight out for a corner.

I don’t blame fans for the ironic cheers when Cannon took the next one. The decision who took the next one was not made by the fans, so either the players or manager had come to the same conclusion that Harrisons previous kicks had been poor that fans had made. It wasn’t vociferous cheering, it was more like when fans cheer for the first shot of the match after 87 minutes.

Hilly was obviously hurting after the game. His team had been battered and there was nowt he could do or say about it.

Agree with TVOS that his use of ‘the fans’ rather than ‘some fans’

The question is who took Harrison off free kicks ? Mr Hill and when it got a reaction he couldn't wait to start applauding the WMG . I wonder now if he will select players in their right positions just because the fans want it that way?

No idea who suggested Cannon take the last free kick (himself), but it was a good one. Harrison can play a cracking cross-field pass on his day but he was off last night for whatever reason.

As for Hilly doing what the fans want ………….
