SkyBet fined for exploiting addicts 10:22 - Mar 28 with 5266 viewspaesanu

"It did not stop problem gamblers even after they had asked to be banned from its websites, the watchdog said."

"He added that Sky Bet had tried to return the money that was gambled."

WTF does that 2nd statement even mean? They tried, how noble. As for the first statement, a fine's not going to stop them, surely a license suspension that.

No chance. I'd give you 100/30 on that.

All bookies are irresponsible because they restrict winning punters - i.e they'll only take money from mugs.

Hell, my betway account was restricted despite being a losing account because they didn't like the type of bets I was placing (i.e horses that opened bigger than I thought they should and contracted in price overnight)

The key role of any government is to protect its citizens.

Problem gambling costs society up to £1.2 billion per year: https://www.cnwl.nhs.uk/news/problem-gamblers-cost-uk-government-1-2-billion-per

But in 2014 the government raised £2.2 billion - https://www.ft.com/content/c9da45f0-ee5f-11e4-88e3-00144feab7de

Money talks loudest? Now I know why they tolerate wall to wall gambling adverts.

I would disagree with your opening sentence.

My Dad is banned from a number of casinos in Britain. Win too often, you're not welcome.

I bet you don't. Even Thomas Hobbes and Ayn Rand thought that a government must provide some basic form of physical protection.

You just don't agree that a government should protect it's citizens from gambling.

He completely ruined Blofeld, Scaramanger and James Bond one evening. Bond, in particular, was furious as instead of going home with Indonesian agent Fanny Akimbo, he had to share a taxi back to the Travelodge with fat Sharon from accounts, the one with the wonky eye and halitosis.

The crookedest thing they do is the transfer deadline day bolox where Sky Sports News reports a string of rumours and rubbish from "Sky Sources" on players A, B and C, Sky Bet opens a book on where you think players A, B and C might go and then when players A, B and C all stay where they are everybody loses and they keep all your money.

The last hour of deadline day last summer was entirely spent with SSN saying that half a dozen transfers they'd been banging on about as definitely happening all summer had all mysteriously "fallen through".

Agreed - it's f*cking scandalous. I'm also amazed that the broadcasting regulators actually allow a Sports TV company to own and advertise it's own betting company on it's sports channels, website etc.

The good news is at least the EFL don't encourage gambling or allow footballers to wear betting company logos on their kit! Oh what's that, EFL, Sky Bet, 5 year deal. WTF!
