Could still be wing backs with Cannon and Bunney there and Ntlhe in the centre as he's played there before in this competition. Good to see Bunney is ok too.

Match thread: Doncaster Checkatrade on 06:54 - Dec 1 by aleanddale | Its a mad comp. we are in round 3 are some groups still to finish. regardless there are LOADS of round 2 games I think we a full round ahead. when all the 2nd round ties are complete is my guess Shun. |
All the groups have finished. We only played this week because the Slough game is on Monday. The remaining second round games (all 15 of them) are tomorrow and next Tuesday/Wednesday, as scheduled. I imagine the third round draw will be towards the end of next week and will be announced in due course.

I remember last season when Chesterfield knocked us out - think they got Luton away next round and it was the first or second week in January on a Tuesday night. Not ideal if you have a busy league and FA Cup schedule - which we did at the time. I thought we were better off out of it. Obviously if the draw is kind and you are lucky enough to get home games then it's not too bad. So far this season we've had 3 home games and an away game at bury - hopefully our luck continues.

Match thread: Doncaster Checkatrade on 11:01 - Nov 29 by CockneyDale | I love that Doncaster brought on Tommy Rowe purely for the penalties and he was their only player that missed. Perhaps shouldn't have kept him until last penalty as he would have time to build up the pressure on himself. |
Looks like he was saving himself for the FA Cup.

On the grounds of playing for Stockport in the playoff final against us, I wouldn't be surprised if he turned up in a Dale shirt some time in the future - like most of his colleagues!

If it is regionalised and assuming we can't draw bury until the quarter finals because they were in our group - our opponents will be one of these: Oldham Fleetwood Lincoln Shrewsbury Leicester Blackpool/Mansfield (play tonight)

Leicester had Ulloa and Iheanacho up front last night v Scunthorpe. Good to see these youngsters getting their chance in the first team. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Chelsea start Batshuayi, £33 million signing last season. Joke of a competition.

Blackpool through on pens. I'm not sure the fact we've played bury already will come into it. They avoided that scenario in the last round, but it might be more problematic to arrange a round further on.

I think if it is still regionalised this next round then you won't be able to play anyone who was in your group (Fleetwood and Leicester were also in the same group).

Isn't it one of the rules that the U21 teams only play away matches - so Leicester won't be drawn at home? Not sure how the draw will be organised (is it televised?) Incidentally, the U21 teams haven't shown many signs that Premiership clubs have a lot of talented young players. One of the poorest performances was Man City's - not much indication that the club is growing its own future internationals.

The problem with the u21 Prem teams now is they are generally made up of players who aren't going to make it to the first team - if you are any good you would have been selected by now. Last night City had Seventeen-year-old midfielder Phil Foden, who helped England win the Under-17 World Cup in October - he was handed his first senior start and became the youngest ever English player in the Champions League. Spanish midfielder Brahim Diaz, 18, played the last 32 minutes for his third City appearance - he looks a wonderful prospect.

The other problem with the U21 academy sides is the blatant abuse of the spirit of the competition rules intended for them to play young players who can't get into the first team. First team players who aren't getting a game are played instead, take a look at the team Leicester put out on Tuesday night for instance. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42246392 Chelsea also had 24 year old Michy Batshuayi playing and scoring 2 goals last night, just 24 hours after featuring as a sub for Chelsea in their game against Athletico Madrid. Whilst they haven't broken any competition rules with their so-called U21 teams doing this, it is exactly the reason why I personally haven't attended any of the fixtures in this seasons competition. For me the EFL made a massive mistake inviting the academy teams and it should be the final nail in the coffin of this now pathetic competition. Wonder how the EFL and Sky would feel if the final was contested by Leicester and Chelsea's academy sides at an empty Wembley stadium and broadcast live on Sky?
