well I have to say I'm really shocked.
I thought he would've gone in there and in his favourite position brought their team to life, everything would've gone through him, pulling strings like a grand master and notching up the goals and assists like never seen before.

This game is sandwiched between Spurs and Man Utd and away from home. It was always going to be one where he went to rest a few and try a few.
There are only a few premier league squads that can make a go of a European campaign whilst maintaining a top of the table challenge or as far as europa goes avoiding dropping into a relegation dogfight.
The grind of weekend and midweek matches where there are few "easy" games in the league takes its toll. Even in the early stages of the competition managers look to rest players for Europe which is why so many premier league teams go out early in the Europa.
