Wow, what a complete footballing performance from the boys in blue.
From start to finish dominated proceedings, with high energy, high tempo and slick passing football.
The atmosphere from both stands tonight was great, good to finally see a drum in the Pearl, it helped create a better atmosphere, much more singing tonight and I'm sure the players benefit from this. Sandy Lane end in full voice, buzzing to be a Rochdale fan.

Does that include us who had to work
No, what a ridiculous comment. I meant the people who had the opportunity to attend but just couldn't be arsed. I have to work sometimes and miss the odd game. No doubt these glory hunters will turn up if we achieved the unbelievable, ie, the play offs.

But isn't that equally ridiculous?
I couldn't make it last night - well, I could have at a pinch but it would've meant inconveniencing other people (who aren't interested in football)
There's plenty who can't afford 2 or 3 games in the space of 8 days, so if they turn up when the crunch games occur I'm more than happy to welcome them, not start getting arsey because they've got other priorities in the month before Christmas

Just enjoy being there, and the result
I agree with you there, being unable to attend as regularly as yesteryear myself.
However, there is a worrying drop in attendances overall this season. I'm a bit disappointed the people of the town don't get behind what is currently one of the most successful Rochdale sides in decades.
Without opening up another pricing debate (which clearly does play a part), you do get the feeling there is an apathy towards the club that even free tickets wouldn't dissipate.

I think last nights attendance proved one thing - the vouchers in the season ticket books are a waste of time!

True. The next six months will be telling, especially if we continue with our current form and with the half s-t due to kick in
It's the 3500 who turned up against bury and latics we need to see more regularly, to begin with. They need to be welcomed, not called out* for not being there in late November

The clubs next move is huge.
Half season tickets is a start... Next years full ticket needs to be as attractive and advertised properly.
Scunthorpe is the next league 1 home game I am hoping for 3000 home fans and a fair few iron for what is usually a poorly attended match ( last Saturday home game pre Christmas )
We actually have hit a small jackpot as sat 17th would have been worse still.
Boxing Day should take care of itself a great day to have a home fixture.

I agree there are times when all of us can`t go for one reason or another but cast your mind back to Wembley we took 17000 a quarter of those attending on a regular basis would be nice

The jackpot would be getting past Carlisle and getting a 'massive' 3rd round opponent (one of the big uns). Vouchers handed out for tickets at the Scunthorpe game for non season ticket holders.

Raff was a bit wasteful tonight with some of his crossing and passing. Slightly off the boil compared to his performances of late. I thought McGahey was excellent tonight, certainly the best game I have seen him play, NML mesmerised the Walsall defenders, RNL was a revelation, but Ollie Rathbone was outstanding. Fully deserved his MOM award.
Steven Davies. 4 goals in two games, coming off the bench. He must be a nightmare to defend against. He is an intelligent striker, deadly in front of goal and plays with a smile. Great to watch. A perfect team performance tonight. Keith Hill must be a very happy man.
Agree with much of this tho early on neither side could string passes together or get control and for me it was Lund & Camps gaining that midfield control which led to the attacking dominance and, more importantly, snuffing out/demoralising Walsall every time they tried to get back in the game. Joe T also struggled to get in the game early on but gradually he found the strength to make his channel runs/hold-up play count & as any player, he looks more threatening when we're in total control - as in the 2nd half. That was true for RNL who seems to have short spells of impact but can then drift out of the game. Probably most important tho (as Walsall's manger mentioned) was the fluidity of our team with excellent quick short interpassing - Rathbone's display epitomised that. But really that's down to the week on week coaching & tactics so well done Keith & Chris etc.

The pre-Christmas drop in crowds is a bit of a fallacy these days, because in the past Saturday was the only shopping day outside the working week.
Now, with Sunday trading, late night opening and online shopping, Saturdays aren't as sacrosanct.
When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Perhaps, but a run of home games like that within a week is testing the financial limits of many.
Inevitable that some will pick and choose fixtures, particularly midweek and in inclement, cold weather and when there are live European fixtures on TV.

Cost will be an issue around Christmas though. Non regulars will think twice about parting with their hard earned wages at a time when presents need buying. We couldn't have had a better fixture mind you (other than a local derby) - top of the league coming to town.

Absolutely.
My point was that 'the last home game before Christmas crowd' isn't affected as much these days as, say, in the 1980s and before.

The Scunny fixture will be attractive but, for the reasons already mentioned, I can see a sub-2000 gate occuring against Chesterfield the Tuesday before, no matter how often Howy posts muted outrage - which luckily for him, I've missed before he's put his foot in his gob

Enjoyed the game, sat near the drum, made for a better atmosphere, where are our missing fans ffs
Guess the proof will be in the pudding. Tickets on sale with 11 games for £100 or a little over £9/game. If the missing regular fans don't bite at that price, they're never coming back.
