SSN were just talking to the Accrington chairman, and he is dead against it due to revenue

Yeh Bradford guy has said the same, because they'd lose four matches worth of money. Another thing to consider, these extra teams required to make up the four sets of 20 - are they going to be from the conference, or are we rattling towards Premier League B teams in the Football League at which point I think I'm just about done with the sport in this country.

Generally I agree with less teams in a league but I really hope they don't do B teams to make up the difference. Surely it's the mid week games which will be axed which never struck me as money spinning games anyway.
New football league proposals on 19:02 - May 19 with 3606 views | Rangersw12 | Seems like a good idea to me and the logical thing to do would be to promote clubs from the conference to make up the difference I think this B club is dead in the water as 90% of clubs would have to agree to it which won't happen
New football league proposals on 19:04 - May 19 with 3597 views | enfieldargh | I love midweek games, seeing as we do well in Cups well only have the fist or 2nd leg of 1st round of league cup as an evening game

New football league proposals on 19:08 - May 19 with 3582 views | enfieldargh | and another bloody thing season tickets will no doubt not drop to reflect the amount of matches. Also B teams. Can see Chelsea, Man U B teams climbing to top division, winning it and the team finishing 7th getting promoted. Stupid bloody idea

The bank holiday thing is odd but if it stops us having to go to Blackburn , Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds etc on a Tuesday night then it must be a good thing !

Yeah that is ridiculous w12, I agree. I used to enjoy the games on a good friday & easter monday, but they had internationals on this year iirc.

I think the last time we had Easter fixtures was the play off year another tradition that has sadly fallen by the wayside especially in the Premier League

New football league proposals on 20:50 - May 19 with 3376 views | stevec | Sounds like a back door route for the Championship to become Premier League 2. Better hope we're part of it.
New football league proposals on 21:07 - May 19 with 3336 views | daveB | sounds a really good idea, yes you lose a few home games but losing a few midweek games in front of a half empty stadium should be made up for by a full house on a Saturday. The 5th division sounds like it will be made up of 6 conference teams and the bottom 14 of league 2 by the sound of it

Regionalisation not on the agenda apparently. Needs a large majority - 65 from 72 - clubs to approve so can't see it happening. Just to be clear the 5 leagues in the headlines are PL + 4. PL still run the PL and FL run the other 4. Intimates in one article that how receptive the FL are to PL B teams being allowed to play in FL will depend on amount of extra funding FL receive from PL - now there's a shock its all about the money - as usual!

Yeah, but one of the major reasons they want to do it is to lose evening games. And I love evening games, even more than Saturdays probably. Would hate it if we only had 1 or 2 games under the lights each year. I think much more could be done to make sure games on holidays and in the evenings should be more local - that's a better place to start. And will clubs lower their ST rates? I bet they won't. I don't see the problem with fixture congestion to be honest. If you do well in cups, you have more games - that's the price of success. It's a squad game now, too. If players are a bit tired for games, well, I kind of think 'tough'. This is the entertainment business.

New football league proposals on 10:21 - May 20 with 2907 views | stevec | I wonder if this is more about the Premier League getting the sh its about the likes of Bournemouth, Watford, Swansea, Stoke, Palace, Southampton and Leicester punching above their weight. Expect a scenario of Champions up with 2nd to 5th in a play off with a decider against 19th from the Prem in an attempt to keep any other upstarts in their place.
New football league proposals on 10:27 - May 20 with 2896 views | TacticalR | I would be interested to know if these leagues with a smaller number of teams will keep the same number of promotion and relegation spots, because that if so it will lead to increased volatility (and financial instability) for the clubs involved. The rise of the Premier League and the increased number of promotion and relegation spots has already increased volatility. Clubs like QPR, Forest, Leeds and Man City have taken a voyage to the third tier for the first time in decades. Leicester went down to the third tier in 2008 for the first time in their entire history. Only a handful of clubs at the top of the Premier League are completely insulated from this volatility.

New football league proposals on 10:31 - May 20 with 2888 views | Hooped_Pullie | I can understand why it's been proposed - and I do see SOME merit in it, midweek games are costly to put on for smaller clubs who often attract only very small crowds to them. However… I'm pretty sure that - whilst the non-dropping of ST prices has been flagged up as likely - ordinary ticket prices match-by-match will also be hiked to make up for the loss of revenue. And so, we end up paying more money to watch less football. Not a good deal
New football league proposals on 11:16 - May 20 with 2837 views | Juzzie | IMO it's simply trying to turn the FL into another PL. However, if it cuts down on midweek games at far flung places then fine. I'm sure extra TV income will offset any losses by having less games. I'm sure ST's won't be reduced. I remember QPR coming out with the spin that when we got promoted in 2011 ST's were 'only' going up by about 30%. However, they (intentionally/unintentionally?) forget to factor in 4 less games at home so it actually worked out to be nearer 57% increase, or something like that.
