Swans Trust Statement - Part 2 on 18:14 - Jan 25 by Uxbridge

Warwick can do one, the miserable plastic fan he is

Completely agree on the "finding ourselves" comment, that's exactly what I've wanted us to do and while I don't always put much stock in press reports, it's clear the club are seeking to revert back to previous seasons and that might well mean the return of one or two. I wouldn't be averse to either Sinclair or JdG coming back, especially Johnny D. I wouldn't base too much on Sinclair not getting into the Villa team ... they've been playing him centrally whilst still playing as if Benteke is there. He'd have to be relatively cheap you'd think too, and that'll be a factor.

Guess there's the short term and long term view. We can do a bit now, but assuming we stay up (and I'd say we're about 65% sure of that at the moment) I think we do need a complete overhaul of the squad ... we're completely unbalanced, not just in terms of personnel in certain positions and weak in others, but of a certain more functional type of footballer. The new TV deal might be coming at just the right time ... we'd need to use it.

I'd take them both back happily.

I think we could try SS up front. I think we need a more mobile, interchangeable front two or three (depending on system) rather than a 'target man' as such and Scotty could certainly finish.

I think the same on a forward purchase - I'd get a 'Borini type' only preferably a better, quicker version rather than a Remy, although if we had no financial constraints it'd be nice to have both types so we can switch it about depending on who and how we're playing.

I am holding out high hopes for an influx of nippy, skilful Italians together with a couple of the no nonsense midfielders who can also pass they seem to specialise in.

I dunno ... think Sinclair's strength is running onto the ball, and we've shown we can't do that for a proper striker in Gomis. Away from home, maybe it could work, think we need a focal point who is capable of bringing others into the game, especially at home. Borini? Worse options. Better too. I'd much rather Doumbia though, although his ill-timed retirement from international football might have scuppered that.

I'm with you on the raiding of Serie A though ... plus we have Joe's ice cream on our doorstep, plus Vesuvios outside the ground ... ready made for them

I think that the comment maybe addressed to the likes of Flashberry who have latched onto your post as justification for his theories that the Trust are trying to hide things from the fans. Given that, as Jacko so wonderfully put it, there's plenty to read both on and between the lines, in the statement I thought that was a bit silly.

Not as silly as some of the stuff I've read online which has ranged from accusing the Trust board members of being paid off by the club and some clearly libellous comments regarding some people, but there we go. Bonkers stuff. All I can say is that I've never received a red cent from the club, and if Phil is keeping my share from me I'm going to be properly pee'd off

Ah - I didn't see that - just read it now. Yes - that's a silly position to take and isn't even remotely was I was suggesting.

I also had a quick look at the guestbook earlier and saw the usual arguments on there as well.

I said the other day, that it's frustrating that these stupid over reactions, interspersed with gossip and tittle tattle actually make it quite difficult to have a genuinely constructive discussion about the club as people become almost automatically polarised and you're either 'for us' or 'against us' in absolute terms.

This.

Was more an observation than a specific reference. Sadly as we've seen many times in the past, logic and basic common sense go out of the window with many Swans fans when faced with something they don't like.

Imagine the response if the window closes and we don't sign anyone? It'd be carnage.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Aye, but Scotty's much quicker, so can start from a little further back and not get offside 100 times.

I don't think Gomis is a bad fit for us - there's just something a bit lacking in him - possibly half a yard of pace actually, which he may of course have had when he was 27 rather than 30.

I wish you hadn't mentioned Joes - I'd kill for one at the moment - haven't had one for ages.

Some people have made some outrageous comments in recent times IMO, and sadly their ill judged arguments have found some traction as results went downwards. As you say, common sense and logic have no part. Worst thing is I'm having to spend more time defending a club I'm more than happy to criticise!

I dread to think what'll happen if we don't get anyone in. Of, lord forbid, we also sell. Doesn't bear thinking about. Saying that, I think that scenario would have been a failure by the club and Huw J would have to justify that. From what I hear, that's not the plan anyway.

I've gone on record a number of times this season stating my belief that the squad as it stands is good enough to survive given competent management, and I stand by it. I'd like to see JdG come in as Shelvey's replacement, and I'd kill for a pacy, tricky winger with a better cross than Routledge too, but neither would be essential IMO.

As for selling, depends who it is. If we get the aforementioned winger I wouldn't lose sleep over Montero's departure, although part of me would like to see what Guidolin could do with him.

Pretty much agree with the lot of that .... we do have some real talent there, more so than most teams around us. As you say, some competent management will make a hell of a difference. Also think one or two tweaks would make a hell of a difference too ... kind of like when Gylfi came in under Rodgers.

"and I'd kill for a pacy, tricky winger with a better cross than Routledge too"

I think that Barrow is turning in to just that, despite the good game Routs had yesterday, it doesn't seem like only one day ago, I think Barrow offers more than Routs.
He creates more "mayhem" amongst their defenders, they can never be sure if he is going cross, cut in for a run in to the penalty area and then whether he is going to pass or shoot.
He seems to be growing in ability and confidence the more game time he gets and he may improve even more under the Don.

I like Routs. For £2m he's been a superb servant and someone who still has a lot to offer. Just think he's lost a yard of pace in the last year or so.

Makes the most intelligent runs of any of or players. they are rarely spotted and the ball released. But yeah, he's not as quick off the mark now and that was a massive part of his effectiveness. The goal he laid on for Bony at OT in the cup that year was Monteroesque for pace.

Ok

Please let me know what the dates are for 3 1/2 years and why these were chosen?

And why monk figures isn't net and what these net figures would be?

Come on, it's clear that the statement is designed to back board and blame monk. Even an idiot like me can see that

Why were the dates chosen? As they tied in with the period that started after our first year in the Premier League.

The other figure is just an example of how much money we have invested in the side over the past 18 months.

And you can believe the last part if you want that is your call but you couldn't actually be more wrong but if it helps your magazine then you go for your life. The sensible amongst us know better

Wouldn't it also be that it also happens to be the period which would show the most money spent per year? Coincidence?

But saying you backed a manager with £50 million if he's received £45 million is misleading.

And your implying I've got an agenda?

no I'm not implying that and you can print what you want to generate some interest I guess at the end of it

After all being right has never bothered you before and your full insinuations are without foundation

I'm not responding to you again, you are clearly not one to believe anything other than what you already believe (the fact that we have had 3 pages on this today tells you that) so I bid you goodnight and I shall return to the comfort of my hotel room

But for the record I don't blame Garry Monk for the wasted money but that probably doesn't suit your agenda

I fully support our transfer policy and the ways we operate in transfer market. I'm not pushing for us to waste money, I say all this on it.

I stand by what I say and you have said nothing to make me think different.

3 and a half years is a weird time scale and I'd guess that it coincidentally happens to start just after Allen, Sinclair and Brendan and ends just before Jonjo went.

Statement implies that it really backed monk with £50 million but leaves out the bit about recouping massive sums too.

Think they are reasonable questions. If you want to put me right. Put in net figure for monk and show 4 and half year net figures then if happily print that:

The Blame Game.... hahaha

So who do YOU blame then?

Actually, I am not expecting an answer but its funny talking about 'blame' as I thought we were putting that behind us until the end of the season. And then the inquiry can begin.

Why does it come down to a matter of blame? This need to single reasons out I never understand ... it's counter productive when done at this moment but also it's never just one reason anyway. Plus any reason is subjective.

Personally I can see a lot of causes for our current malaise ... some poor recruitment, a management structure that ultimately failed to arrest a worrying downturn in form, some woefully underperforming players to name but three. What the club needs to do is get to the bottom of those things that went wrong, understand why, and implement a solution. Preferably in a calm, rational manner.

Nobody's pinning this all on Monk, least of all the Trust statement, and if they are it's misguided IMO. He made some fundamental mistakes IMO but he is not alone in that.

Giving GM a three year bumper contract in the summer might be a reasonable place to point a finger, if you're of the finger pointing persuasion. We are still literally paying for that decision.

I've not blamed anyone.

But I think a line that says monk spent £50 million and was backed, without mentioning how much he brought in over this time (when it was probably over £40 million) is designed for you and I to make up our own mind as to who is at fault.,,,,,, don't you?
