Garry offered two year contract on 21:52 - May 3 by magicdaps10 | We will probably go back to getting talented young British players or British based players who have not really clicked at club they are at ala routledge and Dyer thrown in with a foreign player with potential such as Jefferson Montero hopefully. I think that we got very lucky in getting a good player in Boy for 12m, spending that sort of money on a player never guarantees you a great player and a club like Swansea could not afford to get a 12m lemon, im sure if we were guaranteed a 12m Bony very season then the board would sanction two 12m sigings a year. |
All this British vs the rest crap - is this the influence of UKIP ? Football is a global game - get used to it!

Garry offered two year contract on 07:24 - May 4 with 1459 views | AnotherJohn | I'll be behind the team and manager, if only because this is the best period in Swans history, but I am really worried that we are seeing a board at work that has taken the club as far as it can. In my experience things fall apart internally even before disaster hits in the outside world. If the Swansea way is a board uncomfortable with managers with strong personalities, a preference for Championship signings, an obsession with the transfer targets of a few years ago, and a 'never again' approach to Bony-type spending, we have a lot of pain ahead. I was just looking at Kenwyn Jones on my recorded copy of MoTD and thinking that we dodged a bullet with another of our scouts' picks.

Garry offered two year contract on 22:33 - May 3 by IAN05 | Rightly or wrongly they obviously think its the right decision and what the club needs right now. Whatever we think of the decision you can be assured that its not a decision nafe just because they feel confident. |
Most of the really awful things in human history have been done with nothing but the best intentions, like say the Spanish Inquisition or the Crusades both undertaken to save souls. And to me in many ways the abandonment of a rational course of action in critically exploring alternative candidates, and then pinning your hopes on a desperation for your hunch to be proved right almost smacks of a similar blinkered mindset. Of course the notion du jour that there are no guarantees with the appointment of anybody is strictly speaking true, but it is banal in the extreme. The point is if you owned a business would you rather entrust its management to somebody with a track record of running comparable organisations or to somebody just finishing off their HND?

Couldn't agree more Shaky. If Monk is the man then what do we have to lose by opening it up, he'll apply and if he's the best candidate, he'll get the job. If Monk wins the premier league next season I will still maintain that it was the wrong decision to blindly give it to him because the board are risking our premier league status by appointing a novice when they could receive applications from proven experienced managers. Two of our previous managers are highly rated world wide and are managing top premier league teams. We're a very attractive proposition. Why don't the board stop pretending they know it all and listen to the fans and ask Monk to apply in an open recruitment process!

At least be honest with yourselves.

Garry offered two year contract on 08:53 - May 4 with 1326 views | Private_Partz | I was proved wrong when I said I thought we would get relegated when Monk was given the interim job. I came on here and said so. It was a needless gamble but ultimately it did not cost us our Prem status. However these are very concerning times and supporters are rightly voicing their worries. If GM succeeds I will be chuffed to bits and will say so. I am sure those of a similar mindset will do the same as we are all JBs and only want the best for our club

Whether Monk succeeds or not is irrelevant to my point. I believe the process to hand it to an unproven novice just because he knows the club is fundamentally wrong. If they advertised it, interviewed then gave it to Monk, then fair enough.

Agree with that, why didn't they advertise the position just to see what kind of candidates we attract, bet they were afraid of some big names coming forward, then looking for the cheap option when going for Monk. I for one and many others are thinking the board have gone for the cheaper option, knowing they are going to have to pay compo to ML at some time, now it's done i will get behind Gary and wish him all the best, and hope he proves the doubters wrong.

Garry offered two year contract on 00:07 - May 4 by AngelRangelQS | Yeah it goes without saying that many people will not agree with the decision, however to say that people want him to fail is ridiculous. There's a huge difference between saying that you don't think he's the right man for the job and actively wanting him to fail. I'm not convinced it's the right decision but there is definitely logic behind it and I can't think of anyone I'd rather see making a good fist of this job than Garry Monk |
agree i suspect NO ONE on this board or any Swans supporter would want to see him fail, but we can all give an opinion on who to bring in, we just all have to get behind him now the deed is done.

I honestly don't believe that's the case for 99% of the people here. No matter how many people complain and would come on here and say they were right all along, it doesn't mean they actively want him to fail

I think the days of sourcing players is long gone. Quality players will be queuing up to join an established European club.

Well of course we all should do. I'd have hoped that would be the one thing everyone should be united about, and shame on anyone that hopes their fears are realised.

I don't agree with giving the job to Monk & it's got nothing to do with smug posts on a message board, it's because I love the club & I'm not convinced by what I've seen from him so far. I guess we'll have a far better idea which way we're going as a club when we see the make up of the backroom staff & after the transfer ins & outs are completed. What is vital is that whether we agree with his appointment or not we get behind the team regardless - a poor start to next season would be a real test for our support & no doubt the doom merchants will flood the message board as usual.

Nobody hopes we fail. At all. Except maybe Scouse. It's just the "negative Nigels" Vs "positive Percys" summer entertainment that some people seen keen to stoke up.

Garry offered two year contract on 10:21 - May 4 with 1069 views | Musical_Swan | Have kept pretty quiet about this issue as I see it as a very tough desicion for the club. We've tried the 'big name' manager route a couple of times now, with some good 'short term' results, but could we see the likes of Laudraup staying for a period of time and helping to establish our club further? For all the fans 'upset' by Monks apointment, (and I'm not really 100% happy) I ask one question. Do you think that the manager-merry-go-round that is Swansea city will surfice to establish Premier League stability for years to come? I'm very much a glass half full guy, and seeing as we seem to have a decent squad and the only real pressure on the manager is to avoid a relegation scrap, feel it's a good time to 'bed in' a novice manager and watch him progress over time. Hopefully the loyalty we've shown him would be repaid later on.

1. Nobody's saying we need a name, what I'm personally saying is we need to have an open recruitment process and give it to the best candidate 2. Regarding stability, yes I do believe turnover is good, it brings in fresh impetus, ideas, faces. It's proven to have worked for us for over 10 years.
