Swansea City have been granted planning permission this evening to extend the capacity of the club’s Liberty Stadium home from 20,500 to almost 33,000 in three phases.

This is good news, it needs to be done. you cant attract bigger players and managers if we continue to hve the smallest stadium in the league, especially with the scum building on to theirs. swansea and cardiff are both gonna attract far more youngsters now than they used to with the success of both, so it is vital that we can offer seats for prem games when they are or we will end up losing fans.

even if we go down which i dont think we will, we are in a good position to come back up. the first phase at least should go ahead regardless of what happens.

This is another bit of progress for our club and is vital if we are to continue our growth.

On a purely selfish note,

I've already renewed season ticket in the east stand upper tier back row, if new seats are being constructed above the east stand with better views and perhaps a better atmosphere, will i be offered the chance along with all the others to choose a new seat if we so wished?

Surely the current season ticket holders should have first dibs on the new seats?

A few of us championed the idea of buying the stadium, while we were in the Championship.
As Swansea's council is absolutely sh1te with it's finances and has been for many many years, it needs to raise finances.
Would it now be worth us buying the ground outright off the idiots in County Hall?
Take it on a mortgage over x amount of years, then all the concerts, rent off the Eggs/ Welsh team playing would be going back into the club.
Plus, we owned the Vetch and it helped when things got bad, owning the stadium may get us a preferential rate if we need to borrow money, due to cash flow problems (most businesses get these from time to time.)
You never know, the ticket office, food outlets etc may improve their service as well

Has the opinion of others that disagreed with the idea, with some good well thought out arguments, changed now?
Genuinely interested, not an "I told you so."

We didn't own the Vetch.

Sold to the Council in the 70's to cover our debts.

If we didn't own it,
how did we sell it to the council to cover our debts?
Or were we really into selling stolen goods?

If you wake up breathing, thats a good start to your day and you'll make many thousands of people envious.

Fair point

We didn't own it once we'd sold it!

The £12 million on Bony would have been better spent as a stadium purchase deposit as would the £16 million from Joe Allen sale.

To be honest I doubt we'll sell out against Napoli at home. If we cant do that at a relatively low price I doubt we'll consistently sell 24000+ tickets against the Hulls and Palaces of this world.

Unless you know something I don't regarding current ticket sales or whatever then that's BS. Everyone I know is going at least, or would like too ...

2 things

1) - we won't need an extension if we are not in the Prem
2) - we may not have the money for an extension if the Council has screwed up the rent / lease and we have to fork our extra for that.

Personally I believe we will be in the Prem but would rather save cash to build our own 30 - 35,000 stadium from a new design.

Apart from the fact that it would cost more to build another stadium than to expand this one, hell would freeze over before Swansea Council would grant us planning permission for another stadium while leaving the Liberty solely used by the Ospreys.

The possibility of trying to build in Neath Port Talbot territory has been mentioned on previous threads on this topic but surely environmental/ecological factors should mean this is a no go?!

The board have certainly done their figures. Current capacity of 20,000 +8000 on waiting list+5000 dvla employees with free tickets= 33,000.

Try and buy some tickets for Napoli online if you can. Click the 'choose seat from seating plan' option and just look around the stadium. Thousands of empty seats.

100% agree with this. Either buy the stadium outright then extend. or else save the money and build our own 35K stadium in an area with better infrastructure and loads of parking

It would be nice, if they made the new sections with rail seats.

I asked the Trust this question a while ago but for a specific reason.

Myself and my buddies sit towards the South end of the East where it is pretty quiet compared with where we stood on the North Bank. And we can't move of course. So I asked would we be able to transfer in the upper tier but down towards the rowdy crowd (you know who you are) to be more part of the atmosphere (as you mention chief).

I didn't get a reply. If a lot of people ask the same question then maybe it'll happen. There must be plenty of us who ended up not sitting in our first choice seats.
