Monday, 13th Nov 2023 09:47

As there is nothing much happening Saints wise in the International break, we take a look at some of our archive pictures starting with a man who can truly be called one of the greatest players ever to have played for Southampton Football Club.

MICK CHANNON IN TYPICAL FASHION TAKING ON A DEFENDER AT BIRMINGHAM CITY IN 1980.

MICK IN POSSIBLY THE MOST ICONIC SAINTS KIT OF ALL IN 1972

1973 SAW A NEW STYLE KIT AND MIKE MODELS IT FOR THE CAMERAS WITH THE OLD ARCHERS ROAD TERRACING THAT WAS KNOCKED DOWN IN 1980 IN THE BACKGROUND

1973/74 WASNT A GREAT SEASON FOR SAINTS, CHELSEA ARRIVED AT THE DELL ON 6TH APRIL 1974 IN A RELEGATION 4 POINTER (IT WAS 2 POINTS A GAME BACK THEN, BUT NOBODY CALLED GAMES 4 POINTERS) IT ENDED 0-0 AND SAINTS WERE RELEGATED ON 36 POINTS, THE FIRST VICTIMS OF 3 UP 3 DOWN AND CHELSEA STAYED UP ON 37

HAPPIER TIMES JUST 2 YEARS LATER ON 1ST MAY 1976 AND MICK OR MIKE AS HE WAS STILL KNOWN THEN INSPECTS THE PITCH WITH IAN TURNER & HUGH FISHER

BACK TO 1979/80 AND MICK IS IN FULL FLOW AT WHITE HART LANE WITH THE SHELF IN THE BACKGROUND

Was Mick Channon the first player to defy convention in playing with his shirt not tucked into his shorts?

The ultimate collection of Mick Channon pictures would be called the Channon canon.

I'll get my coat.

I think the first player not to tuck his shirt into his shorts was probably George Best
