Update On Saints V Stoke Due This Afternoon
Friday, 2nd Mar 2018 12:25

Saints will at least give an indication as to whether the game against Stoke City will go ahead later this afternoon.

Saints have issued a statement regarding the game tomorrow against Stoke City and will issue further information at 5pm as to whether the game may be able to go ahead.

“Following heavy snowfall in the region, the club has been consulting with Hampshire Police, Southampton City Council, the Premier League and Stoke, and will continue dialogue throughout the day with all relevant parties."

“We will continue to keep supporters informed and plan to issue a further update at 5pm GMT today.”

This statement dows not seem to infer that they will give a definite deccision either way, only that they will may either call it off if conditions worsenor wait until the morning which is more likely.

The issues are likely to involve the roads in the surrounding area and whether thay will clear by the midday on Saturday or at least have a chance of doing so.

Ultimately the club will have no say on this it will be down to the Stadium Licencing Authority who will include the City Council and the Police

They should make a decision tonight to help fans know if they have to travel or not. With all this snow and temperatures likely to remain near freezing it is going to be hard as hell for many to get there tomorrow.

I asked yesterday if they would be refunding tickets for fans that cannot safely attend to which they said...

Tickets for this fixture can be refunded up until 48 hours before kick-off. After this time tickets do become no refundable, however due to adverse weather conditions we will be reviewing this situation tomorrow and it will be down to the discretion of the Ticket Office with regards to what happens after this time.

Now I'm hoping for a freak heat wave over the next 24 hours because I'd rather go, but not going to chance the journey from North Somerset and would rather not be £84 out of pocket. Hope the club makes a common sense decision and quickly.

If it's down to the police, the game will be called off as they will pursue a zero risk policy and there is no advantage to them whatsoever in the game going ahead. If a single coach or car carrying Stoke fans were involved in a fatal accident tomorrow morning, they would be considered partially responsible for encouraging them to travel.

The match is ON according to the Club's offficial update at 5pm, so if I could delete my previous post, I would :)

Seems it will be on after all which truly amazes me taking everything into account and no sign this evening of the promised thaw. Not a very good decision. Many will not risk travelling or will not be able to because of uncleared side roads, so the ground could be half empty.

I will listen dutifully to Adam Blackmore (alias BFA) and Dave Merrington (alias Mr Doom) on Radio Solent ranting on about boardroom politics and forgetting to tell us anything about what's happening on the pitch.

It's been a long time since I last posted on here, so forgive me for doing so just for personal reasons. Many of you will already know about the one-minute applause for my son, Louie, at tomorrow's match. However, some may not know the story, or realise that it was a chance conversation between one of the UI team and one of my relatives after the Spurs game that started the ball rolling. To think that ten years ago at Bristol Rovers, Louie cried for the impending death of his football team. Yet, here we are now and, for all the club's troubles, The Saints march on, while Louie has gone to be with Markus.

So here is the story as recorded in the Echo:

This is today's update:

http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/16060381.Clap_for_Louie__Here__39_s_how_you_can_

And here’s my appeal to everyone. So, please, if you are able ....
1. Share the hell out of this across social media. Add #saintsfc to everything and ask friends to share it further.
2. If you have contact with anyone at the club: players, former players, stewards, administration staff …. let them know and ask them to spread the word amongst colleagues.
3. If you’re going to the match, set a reminder on your mobile phones for 3.14pm on Saturday. Then, in the 15th minute, stand up and join in with the applause.

As Matt Le Tiss tweeted: “Let’s give Louie the send-off he deserves.”

Thank you for all your support.

All the best Strasbourg. I'm snowed in at the moment but we'll be applauding at home 👍
