Frazer Forster To Join Saints If !!!!!!!
Tuesday, 5th Aug 2014 22:58

Celtic goalkeeper Frazer Forster is reportably about to join Saints but there is a little matter to sort out first.

The national media is reporting that Saints and Celtic have agreed an £8 million pound deal to take the England International keeper to St mary's but before the deal can go through Celtic need to exit the Champions League in their second leg clash with Legia Warsaw in Glasgow .

Celtic are 4-1 down after the first leg and have a depleted side after a red card over in Warsaw, however they are a side noted for their comebacks, so cant be written off yet.

It will be interesting to see what will happen if Celtic do win through and whether that will put an end to the deal or merely stall it a little, even if they go through the fact is all Forster can look forward to is another landslide Scottish Premier League title win and a fairly early exit in the Champions League.

Perhaps the key point will be that if Forster is to push to become first choice in the Egland squad he will need to be playing more competitive football than he will get with Celtic, if they go out of the Champions League it will make the deal easy and quick to do as well as more acceptable to Celtic fans, if they stay in to fight another day then it could be a little sticky but not unsurmountable.

I really can't see Saints agreeing to a deal like that. They want him for that match as if they can turn it around they qualify for the knockout stage, and they have a replacement keeper Craig Gordon for that.

So it's likely that, he and Celtic have agreed he can sign for £8m after the match regardless of the outcome?

Absolutely Zambucco. Deal must be close but Celtic want Forster to play to give them maximum chance to progress. Regardless of result, deal should progress. Of course, other factors may still play a part..

Was wondering if another certain Celtic CB would also be considered too.

Agree with pintsizedsaint that if Celtic do get knocked out it might mean 2 Celtic players arriving at Saints including a much needed CB which has been our priority since the end of last season.

We need both players.
Forster with Boruc as back-up will mean the GK position is sorted. Gazza and Kelvin just aren't up to it.
I agree that surely this deal will go through whatever the outcome and Celtic just wanted to keep him for tonight's game. From Forster's point of view, even if they win tonight it can't be worth staying at Celtic just for a few CL group games? He'd improve his profile considerably at Saints where he'll have plenty of work to do this season.
As for Van Dijk, we simply have to sign him. The lack of other centre backs we are linked to is worrying and at the moment Van Dijk looks like our best (and probably only) option.

Ok so week and a half to go could do with a keeper although not priority IMO. Taider looks ok but again from what I have seen does the same as Cork, Spider, Wany. Last season needed 2 CB's got 1. this season in the same position. I have been calm but am getting concerned as to how long it is taking us to get 1 let alone 2 CB's. Some one give me hope. Oh! and another forward or is RK going to get he best out of Mayuka Gallagher & Sharp? Kruger is saying the right things just need it to happen Please!!!

If Kruger is saying he wants our squad to be deeper and more competitive than before, then I believe we need another winger, striker and two CB's in sooner rather than later. It's not good enough to rely on Pelle as our only option up top given the absence of JRod until at least October. On a positive note our starting line up looks competitive, however we are woefully lacking other options, cover and competition in those areas and simply can't rely on a bench of youth or the likes of Sharp, Mayuka, Yoshida, Hooiveld, K.Davis etc who just aren’t good enough.

This would be a quality signing - Forster is better than hart IMO. If you havebt ever seen his performance against Barcelona check this out:

agree with most comments above. Great if we get celtics goalie, then thats that dept sorted out then. But badly need defenders!! At least 2 more. I wouldnt want to ever play hooiveld or yoshi again. The celtic defender and the aston villa guy maybe are looking like only options now, but concerning if signed they would have very little practice time before the start of season now

I wonder if Forster has any say over the centre back issue
If I was him I would say I will join you but I need better defenders in front of me

Celtic back in CL! So has that delayed the arrival of Forster?
