New Original Saints Songs Wanted !! Friday, 13th Dec 2013 11:09
Im getting fed up with hearing the same old songs week in week out at St Mary's its time we made up a few original songs.
Don't get me wrong im not slating anyone who sits/stands in the Northam/ Kingsland corner, on my travels this season or last in the Premier League I have rarely come across a club with a singing section as vocal or as big as ours, in some grounds you cant tell where their vocal fans are in some cases, from that point of view we can hold ourselves up against anyone in the country, including some of the so called big clubs.
But the dissapointment for me is the lack of original material, most of the songs belted out have been plagiarised from other clubs, you can slag off Manchester United fans for not coming from Manchester or even for the manufactured atmosphere at Old Trafford, one of the things that you cant slate them for though is the reppetoire of ditty's their travelling support will belt out with gusto.
Likewise Liverpool, apart from the obvious You'll Never Walk Alone they also have "Scouser Tommie" a song sung for nigh on 40 years now and the more recent Fields of Anfield Road" the tune stolen from Celtic but the lyrics most definately Liverpool.
I would suggst that anyone who is not familiar with the above songs cant really consider themselves an expert on football songs.
But it isnt just the Northern teams that get in on the act, West Ham & Chelsea in the capital also have an array of songs that put our "We are the Kingsland over here" to shame.
We have the numbers, we have the noise, all we need now is a few witty and quick thinking individuals to come up with some original Southampton themed lyrics to popular tunes.
Surely there are those out there that can do that and i dont just mean changing the odd word or two to suit ourselves, something truly unique and individual to our great club.
We have a headstart on the others in the fact that we already have our anthem but lets start to diversify from the norm, everyone sings most of our repetoire if its not Cortese whoah, it something else at virtually every other club.
There is much talk of the Southampton Way and that needs to be off the field as well, lets show that Saints fans are a different breed from other Premier Clubs

One thing that makes me proud to be a Saints fan is bizarrely when we fall behind.
There is the inevitable 5-10 seconds of shock, and then a low refrain of When the Saints starts swelling from the Northam and spreads through the Kingsland and Chapel stands. Rather than quickly accelerating to the fast paced clapping section then it stays low and slow, repeating over and over. It is such a call to arms, for the whole stadium and team to collectively rally.
"The Bells of St. Mary's" is a 1917 popular song. The music was written by A. Emmett Adams, the lyrics[1] by Douglas Furber, following a visit to St. Mary's Church, Southampton, England.[2]
There may be scope with this one but we'd need to sing it faster than Bing Crosby
How about: The Saints of St Marys We always will love you With your inspiration We never will fail Saints fans will forever march with you together So proudly sing out, proudly sing out Saints Saints Saints
To the refrain of I Will Survive (pressing for win in 2nd half):
Just one more. That will suffice as long as all Saints occupy the opposition’s half. We’ve got plenty in attack. We are never going back, we are true Saints, we’re full of heart, Hey hey.
Smoke On The Water (Reef and Refrain): Run and shoot, score and salute all the Saints faithful. What a loot here to recruit for the Saints faithful.
Score for Southampton the guys in red and white. We are Southampton.
To the refrain and end-tunes of Eminem's Without Me:
Now this is just Saints’ specialty When everybody’s behind the team ‘Cause we’re here to win by any means ‘Cause it’s great to sing out S-F-C
We say, this is just Saints’ specialty See the opposition to hide and flee ‘Cause the Saints run up and down the pitch ‘Cause it’s us who sing loud S-F-C
La-La-La-llana La-Rickie-Lambert La-Artur-Boruc And Lucky Shaw
La-Jay-Rodriguez La-Morgan-Morgan La-Fonte-Lovren And Nat King Clyne
Our home is proud St Mary’s, We came out from the Dell, They kept neglecting us But we’re doing more than well: We can’t stop believing in our right To see all red and white.
We are leaving in the dream Of our great academy, Of history and future, Because we’re Hampshire’s cream. We know the game we’re playing And yes, we are hungry for more.
So come on all the Saints tonight, Pull the red-white shirt with pride, This is how we live and breathe, So come on all of You Saints tonight.
Sorry for flooding this thread, but could I suggest a Hymn to Pochettino:
to the refrain of ABBA's Chiquitita (start from 1:45)
Pochettino, you and I know There’s no better place to be (place to be) than St Mary’s
Marching in with all the Saints Till we reach our aim – And the aim is always winning.
Pochettino, you and I smile For the sky is red and the sun is shining on Marchwood. Let us win and sing once more As we see the score For our true Saint, Pochettino
Sing once more as we see the score For our true Saint, Pochettino…
First post from me but I think this works rather well:
To the tune of Queen "We are The champions"
We are Southampton my friend We'll keep on fighting til the end We are Southampton We are Southampton No time for P*mpey 'Cos we are Southampton We're the Saints
He was in love with his club Southampton But girls adored him even down at Fratton And when he took a walk in town The queen was asking: “Hey boy, where’s your crown?â€
