Two very good experienced Championship players who will improve our squad strength and depth. Good signings if we can agree terms.

Greece win away
at 08:22 11 Oct 2024

It reminded me an international match at the Vetch around 40 years ago when Wales played Iceland? with a lop sided ream packed with forwards which was imbalanced.

England over loaded their midfield although didn’t play with an out an out number nine. It was a classic case of a coach trying to be too clever for his own good and for the good of the team and it failed miserably. The game is taking a new dimension in terms of the coaches trying to out do each other. Football in essence remains a simple game. It’s being over complicated and that was a classic example.

Greece on the other hand were excellent. A good old fashioned performance. Defend as though your life depends on it and attack quickly and in numbers when you get the chance . Rocket science it certainly is not.

A timely gathering
at 17:44 8 Oct 2024

It will happen. Eventually. Whether we like it or want it or not.

It’s an attractive proposition in many ways. Welsh derby matches every week. Swansea v Cardiff or Wrexham with a Champions League place at stake is big bucks and high stakes stuff.

I’m personally unconvinced but it’s going to happen.

He’s done well so far but it’s only nine games. Let’s hope he can keep it up.

He’s been at Leyton Orient and Swindon. This is a step up for him and so far he’s responded superbly but talk of a contract extension at this point is laughable.

Grimes and Fulton
at 21:09 3 Oct 2024

Yes of course he should have scored. He didn’t.

That’s football for you.

The own goal was horrific. At this level of football. Tymon is good enough to put that behind him.

You can see where our real weakness is. Elsewhere we look solid. I’m expecting a 13-16th place finish which is par for us presently.

Grimes and Fulton
at 20:36 3 Oct 2024

Grimes had a good game at Sheffield. He’s usually one of our best and most consistent players.

Fulton was decent too.

Look no further than Tymon as the reason we lost last night. That was shocking from him and then he almost conceded a second. It was fortunately out of character for him as overall he’s done well for us.

We do seem to be lacking a cutting edge. Quality forwards are hard to come by especially when your club don’t want to spend the money …

Allen back in Wales contention?
at 13:28 2 Oct 2024

Allen retired from international football last season. He’s done nothing since to warrant a recall and at 34 this makes you question the judgement of the Wales manager.

He’s not fit enough now. He won’t be playing too much football this season. It’s a crazy decision to recall him but then this won’t be the first or last questionable decision that Bellamy has or will make. He’s not an international manager is he despite the fact that he seems to have grown up a bit …

Should we continue to cover the national team ?
at 20:09 10 Sep 2024

100% yes

Most football fans are interested in their national team to varying degrees. Very few football fans have no interest at all. Probably just the strange ones.

Watching Wales at Bordeaux was a definite highlight for me in that 2-1 win.

🇲🇪Montenegro v Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 : Nations League 2/6
at 22:35 9 Sep 2024

Apart from the opening three minutes that was truly awful from Wales

A lucky rebound fell to Moore who finished well on 30 seconds and then our second was very good from Wilson. But after that it was mainly Montenegro in control with more than double our attempts at goal.

The win is most welcome though but we looked disjointed and lacked quality. Typical Wales really.

You’d probably get on well with Trump. He’s also well known for constantly repeating the same old boring crap which rarely has any substance or credibility.

A good reliable honest pro who has served our club really well. This is likely to be his last season at Swansea.

Losing 17 out of 21 ?

That’s simply not true is it. We lost 16 all season and finished in a respectable 10th.

The Saints squad had lost a lot of their key players after relegation from the Premier League. Martin helped them recruit good quality replacements and they did well to get promoted including an unbeaten run of around 20 games. He’s done well so far in management but he’s got a big job on his hands this season. I hope he is given the time to get it right….

It’s fair to say that Spain revolutionised the way that stylish and successful football was implemented with their so called tiki-taka short intricate passing patterns utilising players with a low centre of gravity who were all very comfortable on the ball. Many regarded their team of 2008/2012 as the best ever football team and winning the World Cup supported that. Praise indeed.

So you can see why coaches in this country have tried to copy that style. Martinez cleverly brought a version of it to Swansea over night with success even in league one.

But there has become a bit of an obsession with some managers and coaches. You need to have the right type of player and one who wants to play that way. Spain did not take unnecessary risks in defensive areas whilst they did prefer to play out from the back. That football intelligence and decision making of the highest quality can separate the very top player from those who have the ability but not mental strength.

The basics of football are simple. It’s not rocket science and Jobs is quite right with his assessment. We do not have the players, not enough of them to be too intricate. Cabango for example is a very useful championship defender but he’s not good enough on the ball. Joe Rodon of Leeds now is.

I thought that Russell Martin tweaked a couple of things with his methods which paid dividends for Swansea and then at Southampton . Presently I don’t see that we have the players to implement an intricate short passing possession based game but time will tell. Luke knows what he wants but this is not the Swansea City club we all used to love …..

It’s a difficult time for the Club. Balancing the books whilst we try to play a certain way but without enough of the type of player required.

On Yates, I’m not sure he’s a Championship player. Some of the comments on this thread are disgraceful as he’s certainly got ability and some quality but he’s not prolific and never has been. That’s not going to change.

Paul Clement left in the December after being with us for 12 months during which we picked up 47 points from his 41 games.

Carvalhal cane in just after Xmas. The club was in decline and becoming a shambles off the pitch. We still had just enough player wise to stay up but we struggled for goals with Ayew topping our charts with only 7 in the league.

There were many reasons that contributed towards our relegation but you can’t try to rewrite history by blaming it all on Paul Clement. Even by your standards that’s way off the mark…

He’s been dreadful so far. Slow ( in movement and thinking ) ponderous and hardly looking like a Championship player yet. Unless he’s getting fitter and sharper he won’t be good enough and that’s a certainty …

He won’t be starting this weekend. And it’s unlikely that he will feature too much this season. Coming up to 35 he’s coming to the end of a good career.

Why do Swansea want Rushworth?

One of two decent points but as usual lots of invented stuff too

By the way Shelvey I thought had gone a couple of years before Cooper arrived so it’s a bit unfair to try to blame Cooper for his salary
