Yesterday the Southampton Echo report of yet another Saints defeat stated that the we have won just one game out of the last thirty six Premiership attempts, spread over two seasons.
Assuming their statistics to be correct I wonder if there has ever been a Premiership team worse than ourselves ?
Given that it’s looking extremely unlikely that we will even equal Derby’s pathetic eleven points relegation total it would indeed be a comfort to learn that at some point in time there was actually a more embarrassing team than us.
Beaten today by two shots from way outside the big box and a header from distance, not forgetting letting one through his arms that looked exceptionally fortunate to be ruled out by V A R.
To me he looks a shadow of the keeper he was when he played for Bournemouth/Sheffield Utd and Arsenal although he was of course relegated from the Premiership with his first two clubs.
Whatever happens for the remainder of the season it’s very doubtful he will play for us in The Championship but on his current form it’s looking extremely unlikely that we will recover what we paid for him.
New manager:- 3 games, 1 point from a possible 9 and only 1 goal scored.
Rather looks to me very similar form to our previous manager’s record.
I’ve said it consistently, the majority of the blame for our current league position lies with our owners and the absolute incompetent doughnuts they employ, who amongst other bizarre decisions, thought it a good idea to extend Armstrong’s contract and purchase cast off Championship and Premiership forwards to assist him.
In truth we were effectively relegated before a ball was kicked with or without Martin or the new manager.
