I agree with all of these too. Interesting and informed opinions generally sane and often funny they're, after Clive, the backbone of this site. I also always enjoy Dorse and Danny Paddox for numerous LOL moments. Wouldn't leave out the tons of regulars - too many to mention individually who keep this site going with their views and knowledge of not just football but a huge range of other subjects. |

Absolutely spot on. Maybe the data analysis would work for a European second division side but physicality is a big advantage in the English game. But also we are very poor in the basics: how many passes to our attacking players went behind them for instance yesterday? If you're a professional footballer you should be able to make runs, pass the ball reasonably accurately and trap the ball without making two extra touches every time. These are just the bare minimum. We are also seemingly incapable of putting a decent FK or corner in. Surely again something you can practise? |

Funny about perceptions. I thought he did this less than a lot of Championship refs. Also he didn't spend a lot of time debating every decision - just a word on the run and move on. I much prefer that as it encourages players to do it all the more and ends up wasting eons of time. As said he gave Smyth a couple of soft FKs but overall I liked him. |

I favour Paris dontcha know. Sadly I am involved in helping to facilitate a wacky training day involving yoga mats and blankets. So I missed today’s glorious draw. From the look at the stats it’ll be a hard job to edit extended QPR highlights but who cares, it’s a point. |

In fairness Marti said he was planning to make some changes at half time when the disastrous red card happened. 0-0 would have been a decent platform to set us up in the second half when we are usually better anyway. |

And of course they go up the other end and score, lol! Victor Moses - what the hell is he doing in the Championship? [Post edited 27 Sep 21:32]

What a goal from Cissoko. Really looked good against us but still looking like a prospect. Luton looking v average. |

Yes, fair point. I have been repeatng what I thought was reported as factual. Apologies if it's not true. Maybe it arose from the juxtaposition of his not having signed a new contract and not being in the squad. Whatever it would be good news if he IS in the fold, either back in the fold or never having left! |

Oh god yes. Sometimes I rant about the deification of Pep. Pep-lite is such a borefest. It might be effective but hell it's tedious. Also by the time the crowd has urged them to actually try and get a goal, the defence has got back to block the shot. |

He won't sign a new contract OR go out on loan reportedly. Silly, silly boy. The club had invested a lot into him and now he thinks he's too good for us. Look, I know footballers' careers are short but even Harry Kane went out on loan to lower division sides. His father is very mouthy on SM and I suspect he's driving this. But for as many David Beckhams and Cole Palmers who catapaulted into the first team of big clubs there are the Josh Bowlers and Patrick Roberts who got into cul de sacs by going to bigger clubs before having to resurrect their careers. He should be looking at the chances Alfie is getting and re-think things but I suspect he won't. Armstrong also missed out on going out on loan because he wouldn't sign a longer term contract and he's probably earning a decent living at Bristol City but I suspect he'd be a better player if he'd had a few more loans. |

I think he doesn't do well with not playing. Other players have been similar. I saw him before one of the matches and although he did the obligatory photos with kids, he looked really hacked off. I got a minor smile by saying we were missing him. Bad could just mean he hates being on the sidelines. I read that it can lead to fractures if not managed carefully, hence the caution for a back injury. Basically it just has to heal itself and there's not much treatment for it. |

He's not a hold up man for certain. What I do think is we need to make more space in the penalty area. When Chair comes back and we've got him and two of Andersen/Dembele/Smyth occupying the other two forward spots other teams' defenders won't be able to crowd out the pen so much because he is dangerous from long distance and they need a couple of players on him. At the moment he's barely had a chance to take any shots so it's hard to rate him at all. Frey is a different kind of player much better at creating his own space with his physicality rather than relying on others to create pockets of space. One thing I do think is that we've got a bit shy about shooting. It's all a bit 'after you' , 'no after you' or 'let's just do one more pass' and then finally give the ball away. |

Someone should tell Alfie he's not one of our own. He looked pretty dedicated to the cause when he was urging the Loft End to raise their voices towards the end of the match and pointing to the badge. It seems like we're best at adding value to players coming in around late teens - like Ebs, Chair etc. Probably because there are so many Prem clubs in West London hoovering up the best youngsters before spitting them out further down the line or stealing the ones we do bring through. But it's a stark contrast between Alfie who absolutely loves playing for us and Kolli who's put himself out in the cold. He should maybe pay attention to Ebs and his story. [Post edited 18 Sep 14:07]

Some great suggestions. Bloody love Berlin. I'm sure you'll have a great time. Some fantastic museums, art galleries, night life. One slightly left field thing if you interested in that kind of thing is a burlesque show. I went to one which was amazing, really talented performers and a pre-war basement club vibe. I think it was this one we went to (much better than the Caberet show on in London at half the price). https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/AttractionProductReview-g187323-d21136675-The_Show One of the few places I've visited where I feel like I only scratched the surface and despite a very busy weekend there were lots of things in this thread that I didn't get to. |

I agree. Celar was actually playing against CDs that included a current England defender and a recent Bundesliga and current Premier player playing pretty much on his own up front. Bit harsh to judge his progress against those players. Cups give the manager the chance to give players extra minutes. Still a bit early in the season to write players off. Varane had a cracking match and the cup gave him the chance to play 90 minutes and Marti a chance to assess a few players in a competitive match. I know we all want to see a cup run but while we're only three points from the play offs, we're also still three points from the relegation places. I can understand Marti wanting to focus on the league at this stage of the season. I'm not sure I can face another scramble for points in the latter stage of the season that we experienced last season. |

I thought Varanne was really good today. Our best player. Saito I thought was very busy and not afraid of a scrap with the defender who tried to break him in half a couple of times and somehow managed to get the free kick. We certainly took the game to them in the second half. Walsh did his best to get the ball up to their end. We need to be able to hold onto possession better though, we just handed the ball back to them too often. I think overall Marti will be pleased with the performance but not with EDB who really didn't show enough energy and fighting spirit. I wasn't at all surprised to see him off at half time. |

Don't think I've ever expected a ref to give a foul more when I can't really see what's going on (it's a long old way from the away end and it seemed to go on forever) and yet he doesn't and we blooming well score. Absolutely bonkers for QPR fans after the most turgid of turgid 90 minutes for us. We deserved it, Alfie deserved it, even if Barry Bannan didn't really deserve it - stormed off down the tunnel apparently... Actually he's only scored 15 goals in the Championship in his 338 appearances. Surely most of them have been against us? Two in the Prem and one of them definitely is against us. He LOVES beating QPR and for once we gave him the old two-fingered salute back. |
