The TV camera films you in the crowd and....
at 10:12 10 Jul 2024

As a wheelchair user, I'm often in the front row at venues and tend to feature heavily on TV coverage. With my current season ticket in the East Paddock I'm often visible in the background at throw-ins and QPR goal celebrations in that area.

As recently as Friday I was on Centre Court at Wimbledon, in the corner, and ended up on a lot of the BBC coverage according to friends' messages.

However, my all-time favourite TV background moment was in the West Paddock featuring just behind Danny Maddix, when he laid the ball back for John Spencer to cross for Tricky Trev's wonderful overhead kick in January 1997. I wish I had a small royalty percentage for every time that is shown on TV!

I was lucky enough to be on Centre Court on Friday and thought Emma is developing into a very good match player. She plays the big points well and mixes her game up, often forcing her opponent to play one more shot when she is in very defensive positions. Good luck to her in her match today.

It was also my first time to Sinner play up close and he was very impressive. He hits the ball so hard but with fantastic control. He appears to have a great all-round game including an excellent serve. He looked a level above Alcarez, who I saw earlier in the day, and would be my tip for the men's title.

Although Foden is a great player for Man City, England look much better without him. He has been very poor all tournament.

What is your second sport.
at 09:55 17 Jun 2024

Playing

Have been involved with wheelchair tennis for over 40 years and still try to play twice a week. I also played wheelchair basketball until my late-thirties but gave up to concentrate on the tennis which is a more inclusive sport as I can play with able-bodied friends.

Started dinghy sailing after I retired and enjoy racing against other sailors with disabilities once a week on a nearby reservoir.

Watching

I've been going to Loftus Rd since I was seven and I've had a season ticket since 1980.

Also enjoy watching tennis, rugby union, athletics and gaelic football (pleased with Donegal's revival this season). Loved boxing in the 70's and 80's but only watch the odd big fight now.

One which always made me smile was the graffiti added to the British Airways Concorde advert;

The season that was - Preview
at 15:05 7 May 2024

Finally got round to reading your Coventry preview today after a hectic few days and it was well worth the wait. Fantastic analysis of the State of our Club over the past few seasons and some sage advice that our owners should heed.

The paragraph comparing QPR to an errant child was inspired and made me LOL.

Thanks for all your hard work throughout the year and have a great summer. I’m so pleased that you and all the dedicated fans who go to all home and away games were rewarded at the end of the season with some very good team performances. Hopefully this helped compensate for all the bad ones you’ve seen over recent seasons.

See you back in the C&S in August.

Very sad news.

Tom looked after us in the East Paddock wheelchair user section for the last 10 years plus and always greeted you with a friendly smile and usually a team sheet. He was a great servant to the Club over many years and will be sadly missed.

Condolences to his family and friends. RIP Tom.

Great report, thanks.

LOL at the piece on Abigail ending, "I’m pleased our scouts are, presumably, at other games otherwise she might end up with a contract".

Very enjoyable reading, thanks Clive.

Great to have a decent Championship referee. Suspect he will not be around this level for long - promoted to Prem.

Steve Cook on the win and where we are at

Agree that he's been a great addition and makes a huge positive difference when he plays.

I really do wish though that he stops blaming other players when it is sometimes his mistake. He even appeared to have a go at Begovic when he played him into trouble with an awful back pass and Asmir did well to kick it into touch. Also played two or three aimless long balls in the first half and only saw him put his hand up in apology once.

VAR. No thanks.

A great point made by one of the posters on another message board:

"Imagine, just imagine, if in the midst of the mad celebration of Dunne's wonder goal the big screen had flashed up “VAR Check” and how that would have punctured the mood. Even if confirmed 2 minutes later, that ultimate high wouldn’t have been the same. No to VAR"

Superb.

The quality of Jimmy Dunne's winner only matched by the quality of your three paragraph description of it! Thank you.

One of those 'I was there' moments that will stay in the memory forever.

Lovely tribute to your Dad, Sevenhoop. He certainly was a loyal supporter and it's fantastic that so many of your extended family are now R's fans.

Those moments with your son when Jimmy scored will provide an unforgettable memory and I'm sure most of us in your position would have burst into tears too.

RIP your Dad, Tommy.

Totally agree with you also that Jimmy is a person and player we should all be proud to have at the Club.

Thanks Clive. Let’s hope these ‘2 dropped points’ do not cost us at the end of the season.

Loved the Mrs Doyle analogy for the referee.
