Southgate got lucky (very lucky)
at 10:59 1 Jul 2024

Despite his poor team selections & so many players underperfoming he got us into the qtr finals.
I still don't how we've got this far by playing so badly in every game.
We've had the easiest draw against lower rated Nations but have made very hard work of it.
It's not even been fun to watch but unless there's a dramatic improvement before Saturday we won't be so lucky against the Swiss.
We've got quality but they just haven't gelled as a team & I'm just waiting for our defence to get ripped apart by a half decent team.
Southgate has worn the same casual shirt for every game (or has he got more than one of them). Its obviously a lucky Omen so he'd better keep wearing it.

Southgate bottled his team selection

Still no natural left sided player.
Southgate just cannot see the problem.
Hope he proves me wrong.

Downes / KWP swap deal
at 18:57 28 Jun 2024

Problem is KWP is in last year of his contract so the choice is to let him go now & get something for him ( or player exchange) or keep him & lose him for nothing at the end of next season.
It's a no brainer really.
But we have to get a replacement for him, the Japanese lad we've been inked with looks the business, go get him.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching Georgia play against Portugal.
Just wish our players could show as much passion & enthusiasm.
It's not all about quality, you need a bit more than that, alright Georgia won't win the competition but they've been excellent.

At least we won't have to tolerate Shearer tonight.

I'm sure Gareth Southgate is a decent guy but he's a very uninspiring Coach / Manager .

Thanks Londonsaint76.
I do have an all singing all dancing Sansung Smart TV so if I'm confronted with having to suffer Shearer commentating again I'll give it a try.
Did try it a few times for Saints games last season but the sound & picture aren't sync'd so there's a slight delay.
Or I might just have a few beers & pretend it's not Shearer.

I'm looking forward to watching our boys tonight & the bonus is that it's on ITV so we won't have to tolerate Shearer talking incessantly over the match.
He is so annoying, I actually muted the sound when watching the Denmark match.
He thinks he's the only person that ever played football, I personally am not interested in his opinion.
That's why I never watch or listen to pre- match & post match panel opinions.
Just think how much BBC could save if they did away with the panel & their very biased opinions.
Perhaps save enough to reduce the cost of the TV Licence.

Stuart Armstrong denied stone wall penalty.
at 15:24 24 Jun 2024

Would it have been a foul if committed anywhere else on the pitch.
'"YES".
So it should have been a penalty.
But VAR would have overuled it anyway because Stuey was a fingernail offside.

Put them all together & that would make half decent team.
Hojburg has been a stand out player in this competition, don't understand why he doesn't start regularly for Spurs.
I'd have him back in exchange for Charlie Alcarez (wishful thinking).

Stuart Armstrong denied stone wall penalty.
at 10:23 24 Jun 2024

Chris Sutton is adamant that It was not a penalty when Stuart Armstrong went down in the box.
As usual Sutton is wrong, that was a stone wall definite penalty, the defender caught Stuey's back leg & anywhere else on the pitch it would have been a free kick.
The ref bottled it because it was so late in the game.
Shame he couldn't have disallowed Hungarys late winner.
Felt for the Scottish team, they gave it a good go but not quite good enough.

Everyone seems to be jumping on the Wharton bandwagon.
WHY.
What's has he achieved to justify all this hype.
Is it really that easy to get into this England team.
As the legend Alan Hansen once said
" you win nothing with kids".
Get well soon Alan.

How many more woeful performances by this inept England team do we have to suffer before we realize they just ain't very good.
Lots of talented individuals do not make a team, they are not a team, no drive, no passion, no system.
How ridiculous to go into the Euro's with no fit left back, playing Trippier there is a joke, we had nothing going forward on the left.
(I'm personally not a great fan of our KWP but he'd be better at left back than Trippier plus he's even better on the right).
Some will say it's not how you play its all about progressing in the competition, well if we keep playing like this we ain't going much further & " it won't be coming home".
Come on England surprise me.

Southampton Back For Third Attempt To Sign Defender

Theo Walcott was vastly experienced but you could hardly call him a leader.
Just because he's our longest serving player with years of experience does not make Jack Stephen's a leader.

Southampton Back For Third Attempt To Sign Defender
at 11:13 17 Jun 2024

Why gamble on an unproven Championship player (Nathan Wood) we've already got better players on our books.
Both Caleta Car & Bella Kotchap have experienced Premier lge action & both have international caps.
I personally don't think either them are great but they are probably better than Nathan Wood & they'd cost us nothing other than their hefty salaries.
I think as with any business it's all about balancing the books. We are looking to offload both CC & BK to recover some of the money we invested in them & bring in a cheap replacement.
Could be a very short sighted policy.
What's the saying "you've got to speculate to accumulate".

Average age of squad

Spot on Butty (apart from Stewart who signed in summer of 24 & is not exactly young).
But previously we were poaching young players with potential ( including Broja on loan) until it was obvious that these youngsters could not keep us in Premier lge.
Hence we panicked & bought older players in an attempt to keep us up & then to get us back into Premier lge.
But it does look as if we are now going for players with Premier lge experience (albeit either past their best or possibly not good enough).
Let's hope the experienced players can do enough to keep us up & help our youngsters develop.

It would appear that the owners have changed their policy of signing young players with potential.
Apart from Harwood Bellis all the players we've signed or are looking to sign are over 30 years old.
Are we starting a walking football team.

LaLa signed

Lala is a good lad & served us well for a few years but it's hardly an ambitious signing.
I think he's been signed as a direct replacement for Stuart Armstrong but Stuey is a few years younger I'd have rather kept Stuey.

Transfer window opens tomorrow 14th June
at 11:44 13 Jun 2024

With the transfer window opening on Friday 14th June I just hope we make some quick decisions & make positive moves for the players that we want or can afford.
Give RM a squad to work with when training starts, don't leave it until the season starts.
Dropped points at start of season could prove critical come May 2025.
