Club Advisory Board 12:54 - Feb 14 with 2826 views | Delboy | This is the initiative we have been waiting for. The opportunity for all the critical voices on here to stand up and be counted, a chance to influence and make yourself heard where it matters.

| “He was deliberately misleading the EFL” |

It says in the article about how they’re looking to bring a wide representation of the fanbase including, for example, a “Sandy Lane Stand Season Ticket Holder. A young supporter (18-21) who is a regular in the Sandy.” https://rochdaleafc.co.uk/cab-explained/ The best thing about this is it has a clear structure of how it works, moving away from the inconsistencies of those the Trust/Club have had in place. These have floundered for far too many years but hopefully we will now see real positive change.

Yes, I believe it refers to a dozen or so representative areas which is a better structure than any dozen fans off the street but the issue will still be to what extent those dozen accurately represent the greatest number of fans as opposed to expressing their own individual views? It's the dilemma of all 'Focus' groups! But focus groups usually have a much more formal analysis to ensure that the sample is representative - perhaps the interview stage will aim to do this? The CAB may well be an improvement on Fans Forums and Trust Research meetings but clear structures alone don't guarantee effective decision making and lots of talking doesn't guarantee satisfied customers.

Of course not, but it creates a solid base to start from. As you say, they have an interview stage and a proper application process which will help achieve the aims. We can only see how things play out, but this is far more professional approach than has been seen previously. On your point about fans forums, irrespective of this change, they’ll still have a place as it allows all interested fans the chance to meet with the club’s board/manager. Tradition is good too!

I doubt the intention is to represent the greatest number of fans and their views, as such My take is that it'll be more of a channel for "issue resolution" - hence the reps from each home stand There's also an 'ambassadorial' element, i.e. those involved may be expected to take the club to the fans, as well as fans to the club

Club Advisory Board on 19:04 - Feb 14 with 2096 views | Rehsad | My take on this that it is an early step on the way to fulfilling 'Project 5000'. If we look at it that way then 2500 new fans are 'yet-to-be-represented'. The more representation there is on this board, the more the segments can be analysed. It could become a board with significant numbers involved but it will result in direction falling from it. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Why would you think that? Personally I am giving some serious consideration to applying. Due to a change in family circumstances I am coming up to Rochdale every couple of months so I see no reason why being an exile would prevent me from being part of the CAB. If you can commit the time to attend the meetings (you may be able to contribute remotely) and providing you pass the interview, surely your views as an exile would be extremely valuable.

I'd be interested also .I'm assuming this is a separate entity to the Supporters Trust and not connected. It will also be interesting to know who will be conducting the interview and selection process. It is a good opportunity for fans to get involved with how the club is being run and a strong CAB is definitely needed because at the moment the fans have no voice or credible representation. Club Advisory Board on 09:25 - Feb 15 with 1455 views | Rodingdale | I think this is a positive step by the club. It is reassuring that this new Willoughby chap is leading on this. But it’s success will depend on the way it’s run and whether the main Board are prepared to hear what they don’t want to hear. There’s something about the wording that’s quite disconcerting- ‘positive attitudes’, yes well that’s fine, but the selection process and interview……will people with strong views, prepared to tell it as it is, be welcomed and selected? The club have The club have opted for the focus group approach - by definition top down and as it is comprised of the club Directors and fans which the club has selected, there’s a risk it becomes quite inward looking. opted for this focus group approach - by definition top down and as it is comprised of the club Directors and fans which the club has selected, there’s a risk it becomes quite inward looking. It’s the clubs call, so time will tell. The trust member on the board has gone native and there’s a real risk that this goes the same way. It would be useful to know who will chair the CAB - will the club be bold and empower a fan to chair the meetings? Will members have the opportunity to set the agenda? Confident businesses value and encourage customer involvement, interviews and selection criteria…. It would also be interesting to know how does the CAB sit with the Trust member on the main board? The current board - Gauge and Pockney - we know have blind spots on fan matters, will the CAB have actual clout with elements of the ‘we know best’ old guard remaining on the board? This leaves the Trust at a crossroads. In my view I would have preferred the club to have revamped the Trust, funding it properly as an independent fan voice, with two members on the main board. In other sectors this happens; the business builds capacity in its independent customer group, building capacity to enable it to function, running surveys, properly consulting with the local community and reaching a wide spectrum of customers and critically enabling reaching out to potential customers through having a broad membership. I’d have thought that was important to delivering Project 5000.

I think you have to give this a chance. I believe the club is right to ask for people with a positive attitude....if the CAB is to succeed it needs people that will positively represent the fans and help get on with some of the actions. Our fans forums for example can sometimes sound like fans are moaning.....the club doesn't want that. It needs action orientated representatives with a good range of skills, including good communication skills. As for the Trust - it can still be the wider fans voice. The Trust will have two reps on the CAB - it can be Trust Board members or trust members elected by the fans. They need to decide what sits best. Murray was clear at the last foum that his term ends in summer and the club is open minded whether the Trust remains on the club Board or not. So the Trust is now at a cross roads and needs to decide whether it wants to argue its case and be proactive in managing that position, or whether it stays silent and will eventually slide away. If it stays silent then the club will see it as becoming irrelevant when it comes to key decision making. Now more than ever it needs to drive a vision and get the members on board. The CAB is up and running by March and the Trust is way behind.

I would like to think that those selected for a interview will also be savvy enough to interview those doing the interview at the same time. Interviews should never be a one way process. If i'm giving up my own time free of charge to help the Club then it will be me asking plenty of questions and then deciding if the position is right for me, it won't be the other way around i'm afraid. I won't be being interviewed by Gauge and Pockney neither, i value my time. I'm fine with anybody else. [Post edited 15 Feb 12:21]

Great point On that same theme, it's not that our current Trust rep has "gone native" as some suggest, he always was "native". A really decent guy, but imo not representative of the fanbase. There's a place for diplomacy, but it needs more than that [Post edited 15 Feb 12:44]

Club Advisory Board on 14:39 - Feb 15 with 949 views | wozzrafc | The fans need to support the trust and help it move forward in the future in whatever guise. Do not under estimate the need for a strong supporters body. It was set up in the time of kilpatrick and Morris to be an independent body and a voice for the fans, over the last 20 years it’s more than proved its worth. When the worst happened it was there ready to lead the charge. Thank god its was. It needs a broad base of opinions to work well.
