Lots of player thread’s around so I though I would get a few opinions on Paal.

For me he has regressed since last season and is a weak link, he often plays himself or others into trouble During the transition phase with loose passes. His distribution is quite poor, and he is often out of position or leaves huge gaps for wingers or full backs to run into, Morrison seems to cover for him a lot.
Although young, Ashby offers more for me?
Thoughts.

Do I have to comment? I'm scared that Esox and others will leap at me. Downvotes at the ready.

Kenny is MASSIVELY overrated on here - I say it every thread on him, he can't defend (stands far too far away from attackers), can't beat a man, can't cross (mostly) and is abysmal at set pieces (mostly).

Add in the fact that he is just phoning things in this season and the bloke is an utter liability.

Great cross for Kolli on Saturday, but that "shot" was a mis-hit cross and he spent the early part of the game working out how to get the lowest %complete pass rating.

Technically, he looks lovely - fantastic touch and relatively quick, but he never busts a gut to get back from his frequent out of position.

No, I am not a fan.

If he was any good we'd be busting a gut to get him to sign a new contract. We spent the summer trying to offload him, says it all really.
He'll be gone in the summer along with Cook, Colback, Anderson, Dunne and maybe Chair.

All change.

Go on, I'll play - yes I do face the pitch. Admittedly with this lot, some times it is through my fingers, but I do watch.

You?

Front row of MU, so I get a very clear view of games albeit with a lack of perspective of what is happening in the School end penalty box.
IMO the full backs alternate in covering attacks dependent on which side the attacks come down with the free full back acting as the out ball to the touchline. Paal is no world beater but he is nowhere near as poor as you describe.

The grass is always greener.

i think he gets too much of a hard time from the fans. has been consistently consistent throughout his tenure under various managers; despite obviously knowing the club were looking for a replacement.

sometimes a regular player that hits 6/10 to 7/10 most games is exactly what teams like ours need and are probably lucky to have

Fair enough. I just don't see it at all. Admittedly I focus on his bad points, but it seems like there is loads of them in each game.

I suspect that I simply think that with his attributes he really should be contributing way more than he actually is.

All about opinions - yours can't be wrong, because its yours; similarly, mine can't be wrong because its mine.

Vive La Difference!

Can we go out yet?

That could well be the difference; when ever I see a player do something good I remember that and any bad things are quickly forgotten, unless they have a shocker, then it's no excuses.
It's almost the opposite of the Steve Cook thread; he can do no wrong in most people's eyes and for the most part they are completely correct, he IS an asset. From where I sit, I get to see him close up for 45 mins of every match and a trait that bothers me about him is that whenever he makes a mistake, he looks to berate or point at one of his teammates to mitigate his error. Saturday's example was a clearance straight into space out side the box and Norwich regained possession when Saito was out on the touchline and Morrison? Was an out ball ahead of him. He immediately starting pointing that there should have been someone there waiting for the ball from him. He does this around once a game and is, for me a negative to his game. Don't get me wrong, he is nowhere near Joey Barton levels of blaming everyone but himself but it isn't something a captain should be doing imo.

The grass is always greener.

Paal passing completion rate for that 1st half Norwich was 93.3% from 15 passes according to Sky. He must have given up on trying to get the lowest rating for that one!

He was rightly taken off at half time, honestly, he was awful yesterday, we have to get a left back in January, I do like Ashby and he improved us yesterday when he came on, but having a naturally left sided player, could be the Difference between staying up and relegation.

Paal is a decent left back, good going forward but pretty average on the defensive side. Problem yesterday was he had nobody to pass to. Every attempt ended with Saito losing it, Koli being outmuscled, Field passing it back to Fox, JCS or Nardi. I also don't think he got much assistance from midfield tracking back. Only reason that we appeared better in the second half was not Ashby coming on, it was Chair being able to hold on to the ball. Also Swansea downed tools second half. I like Ashby but he makes too many mistakes playing at left back. As mentioned by others, there is a lot more to worry about elsewhere in the team.

We seem to have a lot of players who can do it at Loftus Road but can't away. Koli and Saito are definitely 2 of those.
