One for our Scottish lot. I've never heard of him

I vaguely recall that he was possibly banned for acting like a dykehead a bit too much. Might be wrong though, he was a bit odd.

Holloway was a librarian, he said.

£2m on Dykes and trying to sign Hugill (but looks like he’s going Norwich for £5m) plus Amos for under £1m.

Looks like we’re spending the Eze money before clubs realise we’re flush with cash. Probably a wise move.

I'd say that is minimal outlay so far. Most transfers are structured in installments, Amos seems to be well below £1m and Dykes is only up to £2m, so every chance we've laid out only around £500k. Or one Matt Smith.

Bare bones.

Would the currency be known as a Bittmatt then or a Mattcoin?

Agreed.

And I'm assuming the Hugill interest was on the basis that we'd mad to not at least try, but as soon as any other club came in willing to get anywhere near his Wham wages we'd be out of the running.

Don't think Dykes and Hugill would have worked in tandem anyway, both operate as loan strikers. Interesting that Dobbie described Dykes as an 'over the top' kind of player rather than an 'on the deck'. I wonder is Warburton planning on going more direct to compensate for losing Eze's creativity and BOS's direct running at defenders. Would also explain his determination to get Amos in as a holding midfielder. He might be intending to by-pass midfield a bit and start hitting longer balls either for Dykes to run onto, or hold up for Chair/Thomas to join in. Barbet's diags may become even more important!

I'd be very surprised if Warbs changed his style significantly.

Wells and Hugill did alright together at QPR, operating as loan strikers.

I've never seen Dykes live but the clips I've been watching of him this week he doesn't look like an OTT striker to me. He starts with his back to goal and drops off the centre back to receive to feet or chest, then feeds it out, spins and heads for the box for the resulting service more often than not. Which could be ideal if that is in fact the case.

The first line of the signing piece says "QPR need this to work" and fck me do we ever.

But it’s more than we’ve probably committed to spend in the past few transfer windows and I doubt we’re finished. It’s not a criticism of the club. Levy did the same at Spurs before they sold Bale. It’s sensible to make signings before everyone knows we’ve pocketed £15/£20m.

If we lose the 3, we need every signing to work.

Just as important as a striker is sorting that defence out. Clearly looking for a CB. What's your thoughts on a RB, LB Clive?

Not Clive but as I've said before I like Declan Gallagher at Motherwell, unfortunately he's 29 as I thought he was 27/28, I'm positive he's ready for step up.
Just broken into Scotland squad, part of unfancied team to get 3rd last season and team mates. He's tall and strong in the air but also comfortable on the ball, better than most Scottish players in that position.
Age is the problem but if we got 2 seasons out of him and Masterson was ready then I'd see that as good progression.
Not sure on his contract length but one thing that is apparent in Scotland is older players don't get long deals so I can't see it being something that will make his transfer value high, should be valued at £250/£500k max I'd have thought?
Buying now before Nations League playoffs would be sensible if he has been researched, I'd imagine when he plays in a triumphant Scotland team qualifying for the Euros his value will double!

Edit. Centre back
Edit edit. Out of contract next summer, Transfermkt have him at £450k but reality I would think bit less. Get 2 seasons from him and bring Masterson on = good business?

Sounds exactly what our central defence has been missing, especially if he's good at organising the rest of the defence to do similar. We just need to sneak the bat onto the pitch.

Fine woman, apparently she was a Lyndon for a while but jumped back over when she wanted kids.
Holloway could have sorted her without all that palaver 😁

Gallagher, yes not the best moment in someone's life, there is an interesting sub plot at Livingston. The 'assistant' manager David Martindale is seen as the true man in charge but he's done time for drugs offences so is barred from managers role.
Rumours, that are strongly denied, it was ill gotten gains (put 2 & 2 together) that funded Livi's resurgence and rehabilitating Gallagher was at the same time too.
Martindale currently being lauded for the Dykes transfer and subsequent income.
A true vipers nest!

Names not Clive but ...

We don't need a RB, Kakey can do the role with Kane as a backup. So, we have two
RB. Which is lucky as it means this has saved a lot of money.

We do need a LB when Manning leaves with Wallace as a backup.

And of course, we need not one but two CB. As we only have Barbs and Masterson, assuming BFG leaves. We need a proven partner for Barbs and a back up for either of them as Cameron has proven he is too slow and cannot do it when required.

The way things are going with this transfer we still need a centre forward or am I worrying unnecessarily

We need another forward as well as Dykes and a centre back minimum as it stands.

Things like GKs, RBs where we don't like the present incumbents are a long way down the priority list - it's a short summer, money is tight, and if we've already got Kane and Kakay, or Lumley, Kelly and Dieng, contracted then whether you like them or not we're not going to be spending money there.

Lyndon Dykes on 12:15 - Aug 19 with 2329 viewsdaveB

If we buy Dykes I'd like to see us get Scott Hogan on loan, think that gives two very different and exciting options, bit like Wells and Hugil last year.

So much up in the air though and things will change a lot if Eze, Bright and Manning end up going

I fully agree the lad needs to hit the ground running, which is a big ask for a lad untested at this level.I too would find it hard to believe Warburton would abandon his principals at this stage, but it may be forced upon him. Where is the creativity without Eze? Dobbie worked with Dykes for two years - admittedly at a lower level again - but reckoned they were his strengths at the time. He may well have developed him game since then. No harm if we do mix it up a bit anyway, it would make us less predictable. According to the stats, Van Dyke and Robinson had the most touches in the prem, but you could never accuse Liverpool of being shy about hitting Salah or Mane at the earliest opportunity.
