Music is about taste, it doesn't matter how much of a genius you are, you aren't going to please everybody.
The more interesting idea is of artists you know are special but something puts you off, maybe that's what qpr_1968 is getting at by citing the Beatles and the Stones? Sort of the opposite of a guilty pleasure.
Theoretically I could see The Smiths were really interesting but something about Morrisey put me off. I couldn't tell you why at the time but I now think it was that, while musically brilliant, he is an utter richard.

Pearl Jam / Sound Garden and that kind of overly masculine leaden dullness. Depeche Mode. They do nothing for these ears.

Always been a bit meh for me. I like some of their early songs such as 'I can't explain' but I don't own anything of theirs. Tommy I must have seen it but couldn't tell you anything about it. If i'd grown up in the 60s/70s and seen them play live in their pomp, it might be different. Just not happened for me yet.
I had a big soft spot for Destiny’s Child. Bugaboo what a tune. But the mass adoration of Beyoncé leaves me mystified. She’s not bad. Efficient and a great pair of thighs - a pop music version of Bryan Robson - but all being said she’s not even worthy of mopping the puddles from Aretha Franklin’s piano stool.

your right about beyonce, the fuss the press and tv presenters made of her at Glastonbury a few years back was sickening.
Went through the thread and nothing really jumped out at me until CliveWilsonSaid mentioned The Who and I was "Yes! that's the one".
Never really saw the attraction of heavy metal and Iron Maiden left me cold but having seen The Young Ones many times, The Ace of Spades has grown on me.
I found the best way to to introduce people to Tom Waits is with Night Hawks at the Diner followed by Closing Time. After that it doesn't matter, they're hooked.
