Some Tragic News About SFC_Referee
at 12:51 19 Jun 2024

He was a lovely nipper, even when he was winding us up and calling us old, or quipping to the Zulu youth running down the street that "the park run was over" (not going to lie i pissed myself laughing at that at the same time as checking they hadn't heard and getting him away from it).

I know my feeling of loss is nothing close to what Nick and family will be feeling but it really does hurt.

Yesterday when the fixtures came out I saw that we were the last game ever at Goodison and immediately thought how much he'd have loved that, and our group chat was generally just pretty silent on the games, there will be a massive hole next season for us where he should be

Yeah nick did on the march and was behind the “infamous” branfoot cover. I think most on here would know him from games to be honest

Something a lot people on here would have had no idea of is that Elijah was autistic, a fact that he had no shame in and was proud of, and that definitely played a part in his attention to detail around refereeing and the LOTG.

Also it's worth saying for him places like the Ugly really did mean something and he got so much from football, from Saints and from his refereeing, and despite us piss taking about the laws of the games he absolutely knew what he was talking about.

I know it's a very, very f*cking small consolation but at least he got that day out at Wembley in the play offs (and for once we didn't make him late and miss kick off).

I'm one of those who knows Elijah's old man and knew Elijah well, he would travel with us to most away games and stood with us in the Itchen North for years.

I am personally utterly devastated by this news, I just can't get my head around the fact he's gone, but i feel privileged to have known him and see him grow from a relatively shy nipper into an adult.

Elijah (or top boy as we nicknamed him) was as passionate a Saints fans as you're likely to meet, but also just genuinely passionate about football in general, and his refereeing was testament to his dedication. In a very short period of time he went from parks to the semi pro leagues, and the absolutely gutting part is he was going to take his next big step up next season.

Elijah wasn't shy of a joke too, even if occasionally they'd get us in trouble, but lived with an amazing optimism about everything (and sometimes a little naivety too).

I actually cannot imagine the first game of next season without him there, and how hard that's going to be for his old man.

So right now my thoughts are very much with his family first, but also in the fact that he was (as a mate of put it perfectly) "part of the next generation" and it's just hugely, deeply unfair he's been taken so soon.

RIP Top Boy you and your infamous quizzes will be missed

Not seen a single comment mentioning fascism, just people questioning the dubious nature of Farage's extreme opinions.

I personally find it extremely worrying/depressing to see people like him get oxygen (the same is true on the other side of the divide with people like Galloway) and he definitely has shades of Mosley like Nick mentioned.

Personally i'd hope as a nation we're better than that, which it seems the majority are as he is polling at less 20% so not even close to a majority

The one thing I’ve always been quietly proud of about our nation is that we don’t do loud nationalism and we don’t do extremism. It was always a point of pride to look at the excess and division across the pond or in europe and think we as a nation were better than that, I just hope we don’t let that trait go because it’s a great one

few in here

https://www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/nigel-farages-most-controversial-moment

then there's this
https://bylinetimes.com/2023/11/29/watch-nigel-farage-used-homophobic-racial-slu

and him singing hitler youth songs
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/nigel-farage-fascist-nazi-song-ga

Plus there's the subtext of racism in a lot of what he says, but he's actually a very canny operator and knows how to go "just close enough" without going over the line

incitement to racial hatred is an offence under the 2006 law, it's why so many skirt around the edges without directly saying it.

As for Farage, of course he's a racist, he's had a long history of aligning with racist parties, has multiple talking about his racist beliefs and has been recorded as singing pro-nazi songs in his past and racially abusing jewish people.

I'm not really sure how anyone can not see that he's a racist f*ckwit, and in times gone by would've been completely ostracised from British public life as the majority of the country despise people like that

Season ticket sales looking good. How many will we sell?
at 15:17 12 Jun 2024

Interesting that's a really big uplift. I wonder if it's 4k more than the pre-season sale of season tickets (so ones for the whole season) or 4k more than the combined sales of season tickets and half season tickets (which would be far more impressive)

Ian Andrews had a few decent games if i remember rightly, the problem was he was following Timmy who's up there as one of the best we've had

Probably partially responsible for Branfoot getting sacked was Moody. When that idiot started picking him ahead of Le Tiss Branfoot's spell was basically over

They might not have encouraged you on the last game (i don't count the brighton game as the last game) but plenty of us did.

I pulled mine up in the archers and used it to scoop some of the turf up when everyone went on the pitch, the turf was planted in my mum's garden (i was living in a flat at the time and didn't have a garden) and i donated my seat to the Wagon when Jason re-did it so it's up on the wall there now (along with my copy of the infamous "hope you die soon" branfoot OTM).

We also broke into the Dell well after they'd shut it - with the help of a friendly security guard who caught us trying to rip the milton road road sign off the side of it and just let us in instead).

Plus one drunken night out we removed the massive wrought iron gate that used to close the rat run from the archers to the milton road, think we got about 20foot down the road with it before giving up because it was too heavy and we were too drunk

Top 5 grounds I am not excited about going to next season
at 19:02 6 Jun 2024

Similar to others I guess

1. Wolves, worst ground in the league for away fans as your on a low tier at the side and it’s shit to drink to
2. West Ham, because the stadium is sh*t but on the plus side there’s some great pubs
3. Bournemouth, their desperate attempts to create a rivalry annoy me to the extent I don’t bother going now
4. Newcastle, what’s the point? We never win there
5. Fulham, mainly cause I’m bored of it and it costs a fortune for a pint

Saying that I’ll probably end up doing them all because what else are you going to do on a Saturday?

Kachloul was a good player for us at the time, though the general standard of that side wasn't great, which was proven by how annoyed people were when he left

i can't remember Chala ever getting a game other than pe-season, think he was mostly there to keep Delgado company.

Talking of which Delgado has been waiting a very long time to come back and celebrate with us in the streets when we win the league (which he promised he'd do when he left)

Lee Todd is the single worst footballer i've seen play for Saints (and i include Ali Dia in that too).

I'd also argue for Paul Wotton who had the footballing ability of a breeze block, and as controversial as this is i'd probably also include Franny (despite him being a great bloke he really wasn't a great footballer).

Funnily enough the hardest position for me is probably keeper, Kelvin would be a good shout there (in the time i've been going), and despite what Nick says Gav is definitely thereabouts

Strikers is somewhere we have an abudance of shitnesss, Dixon, Speedie, Paul Moody, Neil Bartlett (remember him?) and Frankie Bennet spring to mind for me
