The Lowlights. 2 decent assists from Mitchell though and 2 great finishes. The less said about Boston's first 2 goals the better. Also an hilarious throw in from Boston's number 9 early on when Waller spills the shot - how was that not a foul throw!!!
2 things. That Beckwith,Hogan,Kingdon defensive 3 has been a revelation this past month and now EEL is back Jim has disrupted it all trying to rush a player back who's clearly not ready. Also as much as we all love East - if he has had a serious medical emergency last Saturday should he have been playing so soon? He certainly didn't look himself last night and he was subbed off which I cant remember happening too often when he plays?
I dont care if he is club captain - he's not started a match in 7 months and was no way ready to start tonight against one of the divisions in form sides. We've let in 4 goals now with him on the pitch in the last 2 games and its cost us potentially 5 points - and we've let a better defender in Ferguson leave the club.
He'll probably just blame playing Saturday/Tuesday/Saturday/Tuesday/Saturday/Tuesday. And the pitch. He definitely wont mention our budget against part time Boston.
This WILL be our toughest recent game. Gateshead, Altrincham,Wealdstone,Oldham all below Boston in the form table regardless of league position. They are fighting for their lives and as we know from our great escape season when we won at Peterborough and Rotherham the fact they are in the relegation zone means nothing. Add to that a knock in confidence after throwing away a win at Oldham and Bird possibly not being 100% or maybe not even playing - if we are not on our A game tonight we will not win.
I think the last decent season we had under Hill we won 10 (TEN) home games in a row! Season 16/17, we had 40 points in Jan and looked certainties for at least the play-offs. We then managed to go 10 without a win and just missed out. I cant imagine we've won many at home in a row since then.
The turning point for me was that Mitchell miss. Bird was obviously struggling and probably the last thing he did was put that Mitchell chance on a plate for him. He ballooned over, Bird went off we started getting put under a bit more pressure. EEL came on and that definitely signalled Jim's intentions of just trying to hold onto the 1-0.
Too negative that 2nd half when Oldham were there for the taking. Real chance to put one over on them and we just tried to hold on to 1-0 - its never enough one goal.
Bird is the elephant in the room (pardon the pun). He has come in and turned our season around. He's only on loan which is a big worry for me, can Exeter recall him without any notice? Are there any guarantees we can put in place till the season is over? I presume signing him is out of the question outside of the English Football League transfer window? He's been a breath of fresh air though - the whole team have responded to him joining our squad - even Mitchell these last two home games has looked a bigger threat coming off the bench. Hats off to whoever scouted Jay Bird and whoever persuaded him to join us.
