Subs last night....
at 09:01 5 Feb 2025

I wonder if Marti has already decided who his like for like subs are and that Kolli is more likely to replace someone like Chair than Frey.

On Kolli’s departure, I didn’t see it but I did notice than Ashby joined in with a big smile over his face.

He clearly reads the game well and seems to make good decisions.

I suspect that Southampton don’t want to traumatise the guy too much this season and build his confidence elsewhere. Thinking back to Rob Dickie’s latter days with us.

Subs last night....

Better subs, better bench and better decisions with Marti back at the game again. Colback is really much better in the sub role, as long as he doesn’t lose his head and that was a very well controlled finish.

I don’t think we’ve always got it right but yesterday, that was a more enjoyable watch because of the planning, the decisions and their timing.

Maybe having the flu gives you more time to ‘work from home’ and think through the next game because it looked like we had the right plan and system for Blackburn and the right subs too.

No reason why we can’t beat the teams above us in the run in and we should go for it. The ones below may prove a little trickier though, as they usually do, especially when fighting for survival.

I believe that he was on the bench BUT no one noticed because he had that invisible cloak on again - just like when he’s in the pitch !

More seriously, the bench is now strong enough that he wouldn’t justify a place even if it was in his chosen position.

What we do with next is the biggest dilemma and we need to task whoever found Dozzell a new home with this job as full time activity.

Miracles can happen.

Dunne off?
at 07:01 5 Feb 2025

Sure, here’s a review of the discussions regarding Jimmy Dunne’s departure from QPR during the January 2025 transfer window, now that the situation has been concluded:

### Review of the Forum Discussions:

When the speculation around Jimmy Dunne’s potential departure first started, fans on **LoftforWords** were deeply divided on the matter. Over the course of the window, opinions evolved as more information became available, but several themes consistently emerged.

1. **Financial Considerations**: From the outset, many fans acknowledged QPR’s precarious financial situation, which led to speculation that they might be forced to sell key players. In Dunne’s case, his expiring contract made him a prime candidate for a January transfer.
- **Fan quote**: *“We all know the club's financial mess. If we don’t sell Dunne now, we might get nothing for him in the summer. It's painful but probably necessary.”*
- **Fan quote**: *“We need the cash more than we need the player right now, unfortunately. It’s hard to admit but we’re in no position to be sentimental.”*

2. **Emotional Attachment to Dunne**: Despite the financial realities, many fans expressed reluctance to see Dunne leave. His leadership and consistency in defense made him a fan favorite, and his departure was viewed by many as a massive blow to the team’s stability.
- **Fan quote**: *“Dunne’s been our rock at the back this season. I don’t care what the finances say, we can’t afford to lose him now. It’ll destroy our defense.”*
- **Fan quote**: *“If Dunne leaves, we’ll have to rely on untested youth or some panic buy. I’m genuinely worried about the impact on our survival chances.”*

3. **Speculation on Potential Moves**: As rumors of interest from higher-tier clubs began circulating, especially from Premier League teams and clubs pushing for promotion, fans speculated that Dunne could be a target for teams looking to shore up their defense. Some feared QPR would be unable to hold onto him, especially if a Premier League side came in with an offer.
- **Fan quote**: *“There’s talk of Villa and Wolves sniffing around him. If one of those comes in with a decent offer, I can’t see us turning it down.”*
- **Fan quote**: *“If we don’t sell him now, another club will come in, and we’ll get peanuts for him in the summer. It’s a tough call but that’s the reality.”*

4. **Optimism on Retaining Him**: A portion of the fanbase remained hopeful, arguing that if QPR could stay within touching distance of a playoff spot or escape relegation, they might be able to convince Dunne to stay. Some believed the club would prioritize keeping him for the second half of the season to strengthen their survival hopes or promotion ambitions.
- **Fan quote**: *“If we stay in the mix for promotion or even mid-table stability, maybe Dunne will stay. He’s always seemed committed to the cause, and he’s been a leader in the squad.”*
- **Fan quote**: *“I reckon he’ll stay. QPR needs him, and he knows he’s the main man here. Let’s just hope we can make him feel that we’ve got a future together.”*

---

### What Happened Next:

As the transfer window closed, it was confirmed that **Jimmy Dunne remained at QPR**. While there had been serious interest from multiple clubs, none were able to meet QPR’s valuation or come through with an offer that would sway the club’s decision to sell. The club’s management, understanding Dunne's importance to the team, decided to hold onto him and prioritize his contribution to the team's survival or promotion push for the remainder of the season.

This decision was met with relief by many supporters who had feared that a mid-season departure would destabilize the squad. However, the financial pressures on the club have not disappeared, and there remains speculation that QPR may be forced to reconsider selling key players in the summer.

---

### Speculation Going Forward:

Looking ahead, there are a few potential scenarios fans have been discussing:

1. **Summer Transfer in 2025**: Given his contract situation, many expect that Dunne could still leave at the end of the season for a reduced fee or even for free. If he continues to perform well, interest from Premier League clubs or promoted sides could intensify, and QPR may face a difficult decision about whether to cash in during the summer or risk losing him for nothing.

- **Fan speculation**: *“If he has another solid half-season, we’re likely to see more suitors in the summer. We’ll need to act fast to either secure him on a new contract or take the money now.”*

2. **Contract Extension Talks**: There’s also some speculation that QPR might attempt to tie Dunne down to a new deal if they can find a way to meet his wage demands, especially if the club’s financial outlook improves by the end of the season.

- **Fan speculation**: *“It’d be great if the club could find a way to extend his contract, but it feels unlikely unless there’s a drastic improvement in the financial situation.”*

3. **Team Performance Impact**: If QPR’s league position improves, Dunne’s importance to the team could become even more critical, making it harder for him to leave. However, if the club struggles to avoid relegation, financial pressures could force them to sell in the summer regardless.

In short, while Jimmy Dunne stayed at QPR in January 2025, his future beyond this season remains uncertain, with many fans hoping for a resolution that allows him to stay longer but acknowledging that financial realities could dictate otherwise.

Vale lifted on QPR’s risky recruit – Signing
at 10:42 4 Feb 2025

Well, I’m all for flexibility but we really need a left back that can defend and a right back too. The club itself openly admitted to the LB problem.

Our loaned RB option isn’t up to the job and both of our currently contracted LB/RB options (Paal and Dunne) are out of contract in the summer when Vale (in theory) becomes fit again.

Assuming we release Colback and Fox (more cover for LB) in the summer, either you need to nail Vale into one position or we will need to find someone else.

If he’s happy to do that and can defend to the right level then fine but I don’t get the impression that’s his forte.

If he’s going to play further forward, who’s he going to replace when a very expensive option is warming the bench most weeks already and Dembele is coming back soon.

Add in the Brazilian player and it’s not a particularly obvious choice of acquisition to me but I’m just a simple fan that knows jackshit about systems, formations and inverted full backs etc.

So, whilst I don’t really get the Jack of all trades/master of none approach - I’d be very happy to be proven stupid/wrong if it works out.

Sounds like we are building a team around one position at times when what we really need is a striker that can finish and a couple of defenders on the flanks.

I’m all for flair and whining but unless we score and stop conceding these players are somewhat of a luxury regardless of cost/value etc

And if I’m not mistaken, we pretty much gave up on long throws as well this weekend so maybe he’s got a foul throw on him too.

An absolute shoe-in then !

He’ll be right at home, giving in to the temptation of a quick shorty with Chair once he’s slammed the first 4 or 5 into the LB/RB’s head.
