The club has announced that the entire mainstand will have solar panels installed before summer to allow the club to reduce its carbon footprint and save 30% on utility costs - something that we know is a big cost for the club. And using a local firm too. Well done

Solar panels aren't permanent fixtures, and can presumably be re-located if necessary, i.e. if the roofline of a stand was changed. I agree though, looking much more likely to be at the COA |  |

One of the Directors said that energy bills at the COA have hit £160,000 per annum. They have tripled in just over 2 years.
Let's hope the solar panel initiative goes a long way to getting that back to an acceptable, affordable sum. | | | |

Willbutts Lane roof is North facing so would be the least favurable option I guess. Pearl Streey might be worth considering.
Are we still locked in to that ridiculous fixed tarriff for energy? I know energy prices have rocketed but to lock in to a contract for that length of time was pure insanity. | |

Solar panels work in cloudy conditions as well as sun light but are not as efficient. The tilt of the panels is important,again for optimum efficiency .
Club needs to get a written guarantee on the work undertaken, not just the vocal 7 minutes jobby we had on the pitch. | | | |

They had benefitted from grants though. Wonder if grants for businesses still exist?
They also had a little helical wind generator on a small office block that gave a bit of power when the sun wasn't shining. [Post edited 6 Feb 18:43]

The payback period on this type of investment is 7-10 years. Much lower than it used to be. Good to hear that the club is buying the battery storage capacity so they retain power generated to be used when needed which is better value than selling surplus back to the grid. A really good example of the Ogdens putting money in where they can make an immediate impact on sustainability that the club would never have been able to justify. | | | |

Sorting out the electricity situation must have been high on the agenda for a while now, maybe they are also thinking of bringing gas in too so that we can set up the Dark Kitchen and improve the kitchens inside the COA at the same time.
Someone mentioned the other stands which are less suitable for solar, but which might be suitable for these wind turbines....

Putting 10 around the ground would give power when the solar isn't available ( at night) and reduce bills even further (they would generatd enough power to run 20+ houses.) |  | | |

Loking at that wind turbine linked reminded me of a school near Glen Luce..
They had several turbines of similar design for quite a while but in the pat few years they are no longer there....
For that school to have up and running for at least 15yrs must show that they work...
Reason for taking them down could be that they where past their working life expectancy..
