Subs last night.... 07:33 - Feb 5 with 1329 views | thehat | I thought on the whole they were great again and changed the game back into our favour especially the Colback sub. Big discussion in the car on the way home was would it of been better bring Kolli on instead of Lloyd. Kolli seems to be better at keeping possession and the patten of the game was more suited to him especially at home on a tighter pitch. Lloyd could be better away from home on bigger pitches where there is more space to run behind. Be good to hear other thoughts on this - It's great having these options as they all seem to give you something different depending on the situation.
Subs last night.... on 07:44 - Feb 5 with 1266 views | Rsole | Better subs, better bench and better decisions with Marti back at the game again. Colback is really much better in the sub role, as long as he doesn’t lose his head and that was a very well controlled finish. I don’t think we’ve always got it right but yesterday, that was a more enjoyable watch because of the planning, the decisions and their timing. Maybe having the flu gives you more time to ‘work from home’ and think through the next game because it looked like we had the right plan and system for Blackburn and the right subs too. No reason why we can’t beat the teams above us in the run in and we should go for it. The ones below may prove a little trickier though, as they usually do, especially when fighting for survival.

Subs last night.... on 07:53 - Feb 5 with 1234 views | DannyPaddox | Agree with what you’re saying re: Lloyd & Kolli. To add to it I’d say best use of Lloyd as a sub is when we’re ahead and the oppo are chasing the game - Alfie’s pace on the counterattack then comes to the fore. As for Colback, I think the bloke’s experience is vital in an increasingly young squad. Lots of talk of letting him go. I’d keep him for at least another season. He’s the perfect player to bring on and put a game to bed. Except last night he didn’t just put the game to bed, he read it a story and sang it a lullabye.
Subs last night.... on 08:11 - Feb 5 with 1110 views | stevec | Frey had stopped their centre backs from pushing up the field. I’m guessing Alfie was more likely to do more of the same than Kolli who isn’t so adept at that part of the game. I’m still getting used to not being frozen with fear with every additional sub that comes on!

Agree with you 100 percent on Colback.

thought the subs were perfect myself, issue with kolli is he dosnt hold the ball up , it tends to bounce of f him most of the time , hasnt got any real pace either so alfie coming on espm when thye moved and extra man forward into the middlw was the right move again. it was intresting when the whistle went that kolli didnt come out onto the pitch and headed immed down the tunnel instead of celebrating with the rest of the squad.

I wonder if Marti has already decided who his like for like subs are and that Kolli is more likely to replace someone like Chair than Frey. On Kolli’s departure, I didn’t see it but I did notice than Ashby joined in with a big smile over his face.

Subs last night.... on 09:08 - Feb 5 with 808 views | dmm | As others have said, Kolli isn't really a lone striker. He might develop into one, but more likely, his natural role is as a '10' or wide attacker. That being the case, we've got lots of those types so where/when does he fit in? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Noticed that about Ashby. Great to see.

Subs last night.... on 09:27 - Feb 5 with 660 views | Paddyhoops | Love Alfie but maybe it was just me. Didn’t think he was at his ratty best. He normally closes down defenders at the first opportunity. Small gripe as I think he’s been great . Colback and Yang excelled though.

Subs last night.... on 09:42 - Feb 5 with 558 views | BklynRanger | Thought that too - looked like he got told to cover the gap between the defenders and not get sucked into chasing them - something like that anyway. Agree with all of the OP though - thought Kolli might have been a better choice to link things up - and I don't see him lacking in pace or physicality really. Agree about Colback making a difference when he came on - he has a lot of nous about him when he's in the right frame of mind - found space in tight situations. He was also pretty open in his post match about still getting back to fitness. I could see them trying to keep him for another year if he's looking strong by the end of the season.
Subs last night.... on 09:42 - Feb 5 with 554 views | TheChef | Agreed on best uses of Kolli/Lloyd. Frey should nearly always start - anyone know why he didn't at Millwall? Mystifying.

I'm ambivalent about Colback. He gives great glue, as I've said, when he's up for it, we do need one or two older heads (as long as they don't lose their heads), but he can be a disciplinary liability (see above), and his fitness record is easily the poorest in the squad. It's also worried me how long it's taken him to come back from his last injury at his age. * Edit - Just checked the Offish and realised we have an extra year's option on him. *

Frey should start every game: with Kolli and Lloyd as decent options on the bench he can give everything he’s got for an hour or so before being replaced. Millwall away seemed to be the perfect match for Frey so odd he wasn’t selected. Subs warm up near where I’m based at LR and Kolli did seem to have a bit of a cob on when it was clear he wasn’t going to be used.

Not surprising, as an unused sub I'd be p1ssed off too!

Subs last night.... on 11:01 - Feb 5 with 306 views | Benny_the_Ball | The subs were a big factor on both sides. I thought Eustace's changes actually lost Blackburn momentum that they'd built at the beginning of the second half. Marti's changes then swung the momentum back in QPR's favour. The 2 in midfield had worked very hard in the face of physical, aggressive opponents but were tiring. Colback was tailor made for such a match and made a big difference when he came on. Not just in terms if his goal but wrestling back control of the midfield and helping to see out the game fairly comfortably.
