It was bound to come to a end, I think the best team won! Am I upset yes as I always am when we get beat, but if anyone had said we would be in this position after the boro game I'd have thought them mad! So I'd say let's keep things in perspective, this was a reality check but there's nothing wrong with dreaming! Personally I think we should build for next season and anything else is a bonus! COM ON U,RSSSSSSSSS!

AND WHEN I DREAM , I DREAM ABOUT YOU AND WHEN I SCREAM I SCREAM ABOUT YOU!!!!!

Well said mate, totally agree. They just created slightly better chances in an otherwise fairly even game.

They came and did a number on us . No complaints really . We never really threatened apart from Paals free kick which was ironic really as he insisted on hitting the first man with his set pieces.
Frustrating. We move on .

Chair's deliveries were just as bad, again. For me, Varane isn't creative enough either, though he does sometimes allow Field to get forward a bit more of late, even if the latter's limited acquaintance with incisive passing continues to, well, limit us. I hope Dembele is going to come back with some fire in his belly and put a little rocket up our midfield while Chair (hopefully) gets his act together. Up top, we're still short (not literally).

when is bloody Barrie Bannon going to retire?

we know what he does and he's been doing it for years, he's what? 60 odd I'm guessing.
and whats more, no matter, what his form, he always does it against us

Really enjoyed the first half, thought it was the best quality game at Loftus Road for a good while, two well matched teams.

I said at half time I’d barely noticed Barry Bannon was playing which was a pleasant surprise, but they came out for the second half and looked sharper and more up for it, have to say it was a deserved victory. They’re a big physical team alright, apart from that irritating Scottish git, and the big man Smith who came on made a real difference.

Few of our players look tired now, Smyth should probably have been subbed as he was blowing after an hour (understandable).

Thought Paal had another good game aside from the crap free kicks.

Maybe not a bad thing the crazy optimism of this week gets punctured, we’re an improving team but we’re not a great one yet

Paterson also did a number on us. When he got Chair booked by blatantly shoving him off the ball and then went down clutching his face in the ensuing run and tussle down the line I had a bad feeling. The 5ft 7 Chair would have needed a chair to elbow the 6ft tall Paterson.

Just not our day. We looked jaded and they made it really hard to break through their lines.

Our dead ball deliveries were not at their best either so we couldn't get enough pressure on Wednesday. We didn't get enough players in and around their box so Frey was isolated..

Still I think most of us would have taken six points from this week. And we're still on track.

Disappointed of course, massively, but if anyone honestly thought we'd go through the rest of the season without losing another game then they need a check up from the neck up.

Hilarious how Chair got booked for a shove on a 14 stone giant, yet they continually went through the back of us, almost decapitated Smyth twice and yet the awful ref did nothing. Not why we lost though.

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

No complaints. Rohl clearly an excellent manager and his tactics were spot on. Definitely a reality check that mid table is our aim at the moment and we are way short of anything more. We could do with Ilias finding his form and with Cook and Morrison soon to replace Fox and the Southampton player, we will get a little stronger.

Was right behind the Nardi first half save, absolutely magnificent.

Onwards!

Beaten by the better team. We looked tired after 20 minutes, and today highlighted how weak the squad is compared to mid-higher league teams.
The central midfield is technically weak, we can't keep the ball, and until that is fixed we won't progress up the table.

Can't argue with the result. Good teams bounce back, we go again against Millwall.

We all see things differently. I thought the first half was one of the more boring halves we've seen in a while. Generally thought we looked tired. Especially down the flanks. Didn't think Paal was great. Quite a few wayward passes and generally abysmal corners. Lovely free kick and a decent shot towards the end. If Smyth and Chair are both off it then we're fairly toothless. Took ages to get the subs on which was a bit frustrating as we allowed them to get control of the game.
Smyths attempted clearance which turned into an assist for the first goal was clearly not what he intended. Tried to punt it down the line but scuffed it into the middle of the pitch straight to Bannon. Bannon's ball into the box was inch perfect as you'd expect.
Disappointing day but we had to lose at some point.

Thought we struggled to build any momentum. Weds were happy to commit fouls and break up the play and could do it continually as the ref didn't really punish them. Gave plenty of free kicks but they should have had maybe 4 or 5 bookings.

We kept Bannan mostly quiet for first hour but as we tired he grew into the game

Paterson is just a cowardly cheat - his supposed injury in the 2nd half when he sat down in the centre circle, then a couple of minutes later he magically sprints into the box and almost scores, then 2 mins later does actually score.

I felt we kept them pretty quiet for the first 40 minutes, created a few chances and were generally the better team. Quite simply we ran out of steam thereafter , and they deserved the win in the second half. No matter how sniffy some people choose to be about professional footballers being too tired to play, its a fact that we will have spent the large part of this week on the road from one end of the country to the other, and the opposition haven't, so that worked to their advantage ultimately.

I'd also add that when both sets of fans are telling the ref he doesn't know what he's doing. it's probably a fair indication that he is crap. But his ineptitude generally suited the opposition more than us. If it moved, they held it, wrestled it or kicked it without fear of consequence. Worst we've had at HQ this season I think.

Why, though? The side's been rotated (don't get me started on Leicester again), and the last time I checked, our schedule is the same as any other club's. Presumably, you can only be implying we're not fit enough, which our dip in second half intensity today certainly seems to point to. If so, how are we addressing it?

If we scored the header or the free kick then we win the game.

Wednesday were solid and we just didn't really threaten although we have to be better at our attacking corners

Like I put on the match thread just one of those days

Morgan and Field played most of the last 2 games. They are both about energy and running. Smyth too was decent today but not quite the energy of other games. Hes also played most of last 2 games. All 3 have also played most minutes over last 2 months. Given their style of play, it’s understandable they are knackered. Week off now is vital.

Wednesday played in Leeds (Yorkshire) last weekend, then at home midweek.

We travelled from London to Plymouth, to London, to Hull then back to London in the same period. Think it's a bit disingenuous to describe that as the same schedule.

Nothing to do with fitness. Weds had less of the ball, but when they did it was higher up the pitch and therefore more dangerous.
We lack a central midfielder who can unlock the opposition. Until that is fixed we will chug along, huffing and puffing.
I keep saying Varane and Field are destroyers, they don't create and they won't get us promoted.

Only player centrally that can pass through the lines is Edwards, and he is not ours.

Still plenty of games/points to win. There was a little scuffle at the end of the match. Our boys are up for it, they’ve got a taste for winning.

I agree with this! It's probably true to say, actually, that we've been punching above our weight a bit of late, and today was a reality check. We're a mid-table team at best, and I think that's the highest our squad can probably achieve, as I don't see Marti getting much more out of the players. (Even if he tells himself, as he tells us, they're the best in the world.)

I was mainly thinking of our season-long schedule, but, even if we just talk about the last week, the fact we had a couple of longish coach trips of late hardly explains away today's efforts (and to his credit, Marti also refused to cite fatigue as a reason in his post-match interview). If we were ready for the game, as he insisted, the truth is we just weren't good enough.
