2 keepers on bench today 18:11 - Oct 26 with 11650 views | stainrods_elbow | Personally, I found that completely bewildering and professionally unacceptable from Cifuentes. Assuming Dembele, Fox and Kolli weren't all injured - though who knows these days when a reported blackhead could keep any one of our players out for weeks - if I were the board, I'd be having a word on Monday morning. That was a load of turd! Edit: https://www.qpr.co.uk/news/2024/october/26/cifuentes-post-burnley/ OK - perhaps I jumped the gun a bit! But these minor injuries and twinges are getting ridiculous, it seems to me. [Post edited 26 Oct 18:22]

2 keepers on bench today on 16:50 - Oct 28 by Ned_Kennedys | 1) Manchester City named 2 keepers on the bench on Saturday: these were part of a total of 7 subs out of 9 possible. I’m sure Man City fans are not analysing the hell out of that like we are. 2) Fox and Dembele were not 100% before travelling but Cifuentes says he was told both would be fine for match day which turned out to be incorrect. Even if ONE of them turned out to ok then problem solved as he would’ve been on the bench instead of extra keeper and this storm in a teacup wouldn’t have happened at all. Don’t think there’s a ‘message’ at all apart from the medical team needing to raise their game. |
Well that's exactly the point I've been making really. On its own, not a big deal. Two players lost at the last minute, stick the kid on there cos you may as well. Happens all the time. And yet here we are, lots of people believe this is a deal of some sort of size. Why is that?

"Why is that?" My take is that: 1) Members of any club don't like being treated like idiots by the brass, 2) They'll take even more exception to it when their brass are struggling to perform, and 3) The backlash, when it inevitably comes, may be sometimes indiscriminate, may be sometimes illogical, but that doesn't make it unjustified.

2 keepers on bench today on 10:47 - Oct 28 by BrianMcCarthy | I heard his name some time back as well, Oslo, I think when Salamon was injured. I've no problem with this as you need a certain amount of goalies for training, if nothing else. Again, yet again, the poor comms has led to a problem for Nourry when really this should not be a problem. |
Yes he’s been warming up with Walsh and Nardi before the games for weeks . I wondered where Salomon was some weeks back. Also on Kolli. How do we know he’s been misbehaving ? Surely a misbehaving 19 year old would refuse to play for the under 18’s ?

Because as a society people have been conditioned especially via social media to a) Not accept the answer from anyone of authority b) Find an alternative answer that is either more discussion worthy, gets more clicks or suits the cognitive bias meets the narrative of the person making the assertion If we were sat 10th in the league no one would have battered an eyelid and we would have all just accepted it was an unfortunate turn of events

There may be fcuk all divided by six in it. But you're absolutely right: without decent communication, we will fill the vacuum with 20,639 different theories, promoted IN CAPS via the medium of X. At some point, monkeys / typewriters / Shakespeare and all that, someone will unknowingly stumble across the correct answer, at which point everyone else will attack the club for leaking info through ITK accounts. However, the club will not be able to answer, due to their fcuking ridiculous communication strategy. Sun rise, sun set. I may as well get my theory out there. Marti has become a member of a religious cult whose prophet teaches a specific form of numerology. He could not pick Kolli because the letters of his name would throw the balance of the bench into cosmic despair. By selecting Shepperd, the angelic space creatures blessed the defence, allowing a clean sheet. Let's see what the comms team say about that.

2 keepers on bench today on 12:01 - Oct 28 by Hunterhoop | Two things. 1) Why did Shepherd travel in the first place? At best, in case Walsh or Nardi got injured in the warm up. Neither did. So why was he included on the bench with zero chance of playing? We don’t need to fill the bench and occasionally don’t. 2) Two outfield players were 100% fit on Friday (no cover needed to travel at all, in case one didn’t feel right on the day…). But then on the day further tests were done and neither were fit enough to even be named on the bench. Why were they doing further Tests? Because they weren’t 100% fit to play. They don’t do Tests on every player on the match day. They knew they were doubts. Doesn’t say much for the Physios and club doctor that their diagnosis was so wrong 24 hrs earlier if they thought they were 100% likely to play. Ultimately, there was no need for a 2nd keeper to be named on the bench. And there was an obvious, common sense need to take a spare outfield player from the EDS just in case one of those two didn’t pass the matchday tests planned. We didn’t do the latter and we did do the former. GroveR is right, it’s a message, whatever post match statement was read out. |
assume he travelled in case one of Nardi or Walsh got ill overnight, I bet they do that all the time Does feel like we're looking for problems at the moment If Marti is looking to send a message what is the message and why give an explanation afterwards. The truth is often far more boring that the speculation

2 keepers on bench today on 16:35 - Oct 28 by gazza1 | You are presuming that the physio's were looking or testing Fox & Dembele, perhaps the players themselves said they were struggling at or after the final training session which may have been a lot closer to match conditions........and, hence, were not selected. As for 3 keepers - strange. |
Marti said after the game that Dembele got up on Saturday and told them he didn't feel right
2 keepers on bench today on 19:06 - Oct 28 with 2426 views | Ned_Kennedys | If we assume the issue with Kolli is discipline and/or contract based then both of those are sensitive employment issues. Yet some people seem to think the club should be telling the media and supporters the details of what to me seem confidential matters. Hopefully the club and Kolli are trying to resolve their differences in private and either party talking to the media may jeopardise that process. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Again, on its own, not a big deal. 19 year old with one senior start in his life back in the development squad where his current ability level probably dictates he should be. And yet, here we are, people think it's a deal. I take Baz's point above and maybe there's something in that but, personally, I think it's pretty obvious that people are seeing these as issues because it's part of a wider pattern of behaviour from the club at the moment. Playing the pre-season tour behind closed doors isn't a big deal, by itself. Only announcing the opposition for that tour a couple of days before isn't a big deal, by itself. Announcing the signings of Morrison and Santos an hour before that first friendly, when they'd been at the club ages already, not a big deal, by itself. Withdrawing Cifuentes from interviews and the fans forum, not a big deal, by itself. Not revealing the length of players' contracts any more... Claiming that Portsmouth and Sheff Utd do the same when they don't... Saying you'll tell us everything you can as soon as you can while in the very next breath revealing you've saved a load of deals you've done up to reveal at the fans forum... The on the record-off the record meeting wit the fan sites... All of these, on their own, not big deals at all. Collectively though...

It is thought that Kim Jong Un enjoys a battered eyelid from time to time. Coincidence? I think not…

4) The message it sends to parents weighing up which club to send their 14 year old kid to. No hoper or not, that extra keeper took the slot of a youngster. [Post edited 29 Oct 9:45]

if they found out that both fox and dembele were not aval until sat morning how are they supposed to do that ? we hit the road at 815am and got to the ground just after midday, so what they gona do ring round the swuad and day anyone free ? fancy a four hour drive to burnely to likely sit on the bench for 90 mins ? ps dont forget your boots !

That isn’t what happened though is it? “It was a difficult game for us but a massive point according to the situation where we are, especially with the issues we have gone through over the last 24 hours with players out” https://www.qpr.co.uk/news/2024/october/26/cifuentes-post-burnley/ So people knew at least on Friday afternoon. They should have had lads ready. If you was YTS/DS player (of any standard) with an opportunity to get on a bench for a Champ game would you make the effort to get to Burnley? If you can prepare and register a keeper with 24 hours notice you can prepare a YTS/DS player.

Hasn’t it already been established that this keeper was signed last month and not immediately before the game?

I meant with the squad rather than as a transfer, but isn’t the point the same? I thought it was a shitty move when Redknapp did it, I thought it was a shitty move when Warburton did it, and just because I like Marti I’m not going to say it’s not a shitty move now. I may be totally off the mark, and a very good bureaucratic reason for it exists, but as has been established in other threads Nourry either starves us of info or manipulates the little he releases. There is no trust here, so what am I to do but assume bad faith? [Post edited 29 Oct 11:37]

Didn't the DS play on the Thursday though? Surely that would rule out promoting anyone who had played into the first team for a game on Saturday (or the travel up on Friday).

Well, I thought it was 24 hours, but even if it wasn’t why not say so rather than give us some old flannel (as shown by Hunter) about two unexpected injuries between getting a Ginsters at Watford Gap and getting off the coach at Burnley. [Post edited 29 Oct 12:42]

Personally I'm now more worried that Dembele is the type of character to decide he doesn't "fancy" it on the morning of a game. Are we back to the bad old Mick Beale days of Tyler and Laird sitting down on the pitch when it all gets a bit too much?

Got you, I misunderstood. I'm not reading anything into this. Storm in a teacup. What would have been the point of calling up another player who wasn't already with the squad? It's not like they were going to get on the pitch. I certainly believe that Redknapp was capable of petulant gestures, I'm not sure Marti is that man.

Well, like North says, it probably is meaningless in isolation and even less than that if we’re winning. But we are not winning, the CEO is cheesing people off, and if we packed two keepers either through pettiness, a fck off to Kolli, or cock up (which are the only options I can see) then I think it’s worthy of discussion. Maybe we should stick 6 attackers on the bench in the hope we score more goals?
