Didn't deserve to lose that 14:08 - Jan 14 with 12180 views | OakR | I know it's about achieving etc as Marti says, but you know what, we played well today. Our Achilles heal of not being able to score / take chances bit us again. Plenty of positives from today, not the result of course This is miles away from getting beaten and playing terribly. Didn't deserve to lose that on 14:30 - Jan 14 with 7980 views | Watford_Ranger | Finishing is a big part of football. If you can’t finish you don’t deserve to win games. Yes bloody Livermore who is older than time and scores about as often as a solar eclipse smashed two in but we should have been well ahead before they woke up a bit. That midfield was absolute dross. Colback deserved a red and offered nothing on the ball at all.

Basically, if we'd done what we should have done end of last season and ring in the changes (manager above all), I reckon we'd have been safe lower mid table with reasonable performances, winning some, losing some. Instead we dithered, gave ourselves a mountain to climb, creating a level of pressure and lack of confidence where even if we play well (wish I think we frequently do under Marti) there are little lapses and we don't seem to be able to get the result.

| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

One Smyth put in low and he’s poncing about nowhere near the goal. First half a ball spills off the keeper and where is he? I don’t get shoehorning him and Willock into the team out of position when you can play Willock, Chair and Smyth behind a striker. Also very bizarre to hook Chair instead of Willock. Then we go and score and our best player isn’t on the pitch to chase the equaliser. Can only assume he was injured.
Didn't deserve to lose that on 14:54 - Jan 14 with 7722 views | ParkRoyalR | I was in line and recall three Smyth crosses: First was wildly over-hit which is common with Smyth, Second clipped defender taking pace off it for Dykes attacking back-post for goal, Third was a superb cut-back but no-one was getting on the end of that as Smyth was fed a quick thru ball and had to cut it back further to give other time to attack the box

I thought Colback played well, the simple miss apart. The yellow was him taking one for the team because of poor play to give the ball away. Think we’re a better team with him in it. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Having no strikers is what is killing us. Four massive home games and two lost already. If we have no money to buy one with then it is division 1 for sure. If we have any to spend but haven’t got off our backsides to bring one in then that is shameful as it has been obvious for a long long time that we are lacking in that area. To think I’ll be watching them at Stevenage next year is unbelievable- it really has gone badly wrong.

Didn't deserve to lose that on 15:03 - Jan 14 with 7615 views | rbee | I don't think Chair was injured, his game time would have been decided before kick off, the same with Colback. Maybe we didn't deserve to lose that game today but in my opinion we didn't deserve to win it either. There were plenty of positives today which keeps me clutching at my few remaining straws. We actually created chances today, Armstrong was excellent, Dunne played well, Smyth was superb when he came on not only in an attacking sense but he saved us from conceding a third as well. At 0-2 down our heads didn't drop and we kept going. However. Our finishing was poor today, we didn't get enough players in to the box, nobody was willing to lay their bodies on the line to block Livermore's shots, Dykes especially poor with his first but nobody else was anywhere near him. You don't deserve to win games if you keep getting pointless yellow cards, giving away pointless free kicks which stops and disrupts the game. Even in the final few minutes of the game Larkeche gives away a pointless free kick in a good position, Cannon did the same a few minutes before that all playing in to Watford's hands. You don't deserve to win games if your set pieces are a complete and utter joke. I feel for the players who bother making their way in to the penalty box, the players that practice set pieces in training only to watch Paal scuff the ball along the grass. All playing in to Watford's hands once again. Paal is a very decent left back but already he will be remembered as the dead ball clown.
Didn't deserve to lose that on 15:04 - Jan 14 with 7602 views | Jules4367 | Game after game Smyth has the beating of their backs! We get a free kick, put two players over the ball- they put two or three in the wall - so they have three players ‘out’ of the melee. Why cannot Smyth over run the ball then a pass to him as the free kick and he is round the three defenders in the wall and crossing to where we have more in the box - you see other teams do it but we keep this ridiculous crossing direct from the free kick or shooting. There is no imagination or strategy at free kicks and we waste far far more than we convert! Madness!!!

The comments about Colback sums you up.......he was excellent throughout the match and played very well indeed. Never gave the ball away once, showed for the ball all the time giving players options, covered for Paal frequently and worked hard all the match that he was playing. Red card, why??? Sadly Watford, you just do not undertstand!!! And the midfield was not absolute dross either. As for your other comments, you do not win games if you don't finish but our overall play today, as the opener post suggests.......we deserved something from the game, for sure. Livermore smashed in one for sure (2nd) but the other was a standard shot which could/should have been saved (Not looked at replays so may be a better strike that I thought).
Didn't deserve to lose that on 15:06 - Jan 14 with 7576 views | stevec | If a top striker had Armstrongs 3 chances he’d have had a hatrick. A good striker would have scored 2. Devon White would have scored one of them. We’re going down.

But he did bust a gut to be one of the only players in his own box covering late on, with half the rest of the team up field. Didn't see him do too much wrong on the crosses myself but it was mayhem towards the end. He did score but maybe he's not really a forward, somebody should check. Can anyone shed light on the space Livermore had for both goals? Looked like a severe lack of a challenge in both cases but don't want to assume. First one was a worldy in terms of the shot but that second one we just seemed to let him hit the fcuking thing.

What did he do excellently? He rarely plays a meaningful pass, can’t get around the pitch, missed a great chance, was lucky to not get a red card. What about it was excellent?
Didn't deserve to lose that on 15:10 - Jan 14 with 7545 views | Burnleyhoop | Difficult to criticise anyone today, missed multiple opportunities as we lack that bit of quality needed to win matches. Apart from a lack of composure and clinical ability, I thought Armstrong was great today. Best performance I have seen from him and coupled with the goal last week, he looks to be making the progress needed to make the grade. Still in the fight, but we needed Cifuentes in the summer and wasted precious months and financial resource on Ainsworth. Shame.

Would like to see it again but from my vantage point Begovic looked very flat-footed for the first. Maybe it was in the corner but didn’t look it having not seen it back. Dykes would’ve been Livermore’s man presumably in that formation but nobody seemed to be busting a gut to stop the shot but again without having seen it back.

I have told you why he was excellent (maybe a little OTT) but he generally did a very good job during the match for the team (& himself). No you said red, why??? and why wasn't a yellow sufficient?? [Post edited 14 Jan 15:19]

My initial reaction was that Begovic should be saving the first goal and having seen a few replays my opinion hasn’t changed. No real pace behind the shot and he seems very slow to get across. But I’d be interested to hear if others feel differently!

Dykes had done really well harrying Livermore up to that point but did'nt close him down quick enough and let him get his head up and plant that in the far corner, Some mitigation for Dykes was just prior he had run the length of the field to put a block in just outside our 6 yard box, but he knew he should have been tighter for their goal, Not sure where field & Colback were mind.

From where I was it looked to have a hell of a bend on it - not sure he really thought it was going in until late on. The second one looked like a bog standard partially unsighted effort that he could have tried to anticipate better. I could be wrong. [Post edited 14 Jan 20:21]

Didn't deserve to lose that on 15:24 - Jan 14 with 7391 views | joe90 | We didn’t deserve to win and a draw would have been a fair result, but we lost and Watford deservedly took the 3 points. We also weren’t unlucky, the team were playing at the limit of their capabilities. Despite putting in a fairly good performance we were still not good enough. Sadly Armstrong does not have the composure for first team football and I fear that this season could have a detrimental impact on his development, but it’s a stark reflection of our limited squad. As crazy as this sounds, I enjoyed the game. It was entertaining, but it was also crushing at the same time. We put in effort and it just wasn’t good enough, and that hurts.
